Stanley Blower Fan Mod

I really needed to let you Folks know that the Stanley just doesn't have the ass to cool all 3 1k lights. YA it works but I feel a lot of heat off the 3rd light. The AC is taking up the slack but running more than I like. It was worth the try!

Have you thought about using a stanley on both ends instead of just one end?

Ganoderma, As a matter of fact I do have another stanley,Yes I tried it a while back but was not practical. Here's what I plan to do. The fan works very well on 2 lights so I will buy another light & run both fans each for 2 lights! Easy way to fix the problem!

Hi all.

I did "The Dopest Mod" - drilled 4 4" holes through it. Then I taped the intake up real good. Fired it up and you can tell there is a dramatic reduction in airflow. Is this made up for once you hook it into venting, since 1/2 the airflow is no longer "wasted"?

Probably no turning back once you've drilled those 4 holes, eh?

drilling the center allows more airflow for a single side pull than not drillin it. idk about without the vents on but i imagine taping one side restricts it some over not taping but if you go single sided, theres no options.

Yah that makes sense. At first I was like "ah i screwed it up!". But it still pumps through a lot of air...just not as much. Again, this is unconnected to anything.

this is my grow box...its about 2.5 feet wide 2 feet deep and about 4 feet tall.

im wonderin how cool the stanley will keep this box with a 250 hps with a 250cfm inline fan at the floor for intake and the stanley mounted to the top back corner with the exaust going out the back. ima put that rectangle flange adapter thing out the back then run ducting to this filter....right now my box runs about 85-90 degrees with 2 250 cfm inline fans, 1 for exaust and the other for intake. the question is will the temp drop with the stanley and will it puse threw this filter!?!?

thanks in advance for the help.

damn...why wont it let me post pics?!??!

will the 250 hps be tubed or glassed in? i have a stanley in a workforce wide cab cooling a 400w hps to 82deg, ambient room temps are 80 so im happy. the 400w is in a cool tube though. also i just made sure i had enough vent size and let the stanley push out the rear of the cab. it causes a negative pressure environment in the cab and keeps it cool.

you can see my box and filter in my gallery...for sum reason it wouldnt let me post them. im keep the set up the same accept ima put one of the inline fans at the floor intake and replace the inline exaust at the top of the box with the stanley blowin out the back into the filter.

the stanley will probably suck your plant up and blow it and the filter though the sheetrock wall behind it.:muahaha:

a potential problem is the cab is inside a closet. the heat leaving the cab is still inside the closet so its being pulled back in and recycled. imo the stanley could easily cool that cab if done properly. maybe even extend the duct from the exhaust of the stanley to blow outside the closet.

hahaha...that would be great LOL.....but yea, i was gonna run about 4- 5 foot of ducting just do i dont have that problem plus the closet has no doors. The only thing im really worried bout is im sure its gonna be pretty loud even if i seal it into the box huh?!?!??

Yesterday I picked up a blower from Lowe's called "Blue Blower Professional". Here's a link:
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=5013-59612-BB3000i&lpage=none

Here's some specs: Here are some measurements:
Intake: 4.5"
Outflow: 6.5" x 2.75"

It does have intake on both sides, like the stanley.

Says it draws 2.3 amps/180W (which is about 2x the stanley). On the highest setting it's much louder (airflow).

This sucker seems real powerful, it says moves 300 CFM on the box. The plastic is seems pretty heavy duty, as does the overall unit. I'll post some pics later.

I'm contemplating putting this into the mix as well...maybe I'm overkill for a 600W but the stanley just isn't cooling the room enough...

whiteboi420, the closet doors being missing makes some difference but its still a box in a box. get that hose on there to direct the heat away from the intakes and youll be happy. i have three stanleys running in this room, it sounds like a whirlwind in here from the exhausts. i put a 20 box fan on the floor next to a cab to disquise it some but theres no way i could have someone in this room without them knowing there is a blower in a cab next to them. now there is a diy silencer thread in here that would take care of that noise but in my case i have the cab 3" from the wall and a silencer wont fit. maybe you could do a silencer on the back of the cab and extend the duct from it out of the closet. idk, gl though

acgreenjeans, that fan is fine for moving air bout you cant duct its output easily. is there any way you can get a picture or diagram of you setup on here maybe we can help you get a lil more efficient design. im cooling 800w and EZB up there is cooling 2k and was limping on 3k for a while. i will say im havin problems cooling a 2'x5' closet with only a 432w t5 in there but those arent glassed or ducted. the ballast is made into it as well making it harder to cool but its hangin in there. post up and lets see what we can do.

The Dopest: I was able to hook an outflow duct onto it real easy actually. Haven't tried the intake yet - that will probably require some screws. It blows like crazy...BUT, my temps still aren't coming down. I think I maybe have an intake problem.

This is a room about 5'x14' with a single standard door on it. The door has about 1/4" gap that I figured the negative pressure was drawing external cooler air from, but that apparently wasn't enough. So I cut another vent on a different wall at floor level - not real big, about 3"x6". Upon cutting that hole I could feel air flowing into the room. But still temps have not come down much...edit: guess they will do that when your flex duct is half torn away from the outvent! Fixed that, see what that does.

I'm pushing through a 6" Cooltube. It is warm to the touch but I can touch it for as long as I want without getting burnt.

Anyhow I don't want to hijack your Stanley thread, I might just go to a new post for this :D

where is the output duct blowin to? is there a way to exhaust the output duct from the room through the 3"x6" hole or similar?

You say the blower has more than one intake? Is there any way to change that?

Kinda sucks if you are trying to air cool lights on a sealed system, or just want to direct the full power of the fan in one direction.

*UPDATED MOD* FAN PULLS FROM ONE SIDE NOW

i drilled four 1" holes in the center divider and taped up the motor side vent. the fan has been running for a couple weeks like this no problems. The Dopest certified mod.
