Ah, kinda confirms my suspicions why they use the words leaf wash instead of miticide.

Triethanolamine

Triethanolamine, often abbreviated as TEA, is an organic chemical compound which is both a tertiary amine and a tri-alcohol. A tri-alcohol is a molecule with three hydroxyl groups. Like other amines, triethanolamine acts as a weak base due to the lone pair on the nitrogen atom.

This ingredient is used as a pH balancer in cosmetic preparations in a variety of different products - ranging from skin lotion, eye gels, moisturizers, shampoos, shaving foams etc.

As with any amines, it may have the potential to create nitrosamines, but with the low concentrations used in cosmetic products the chances of that happening is very slim and it is further theorized that nitrosamines cannot penetrate the skin.

It is listed under Schedule 3, part B of the Chemical Weapons Convention as it can be used in the manufacture nitrogen mustards.

Look, guys, Don't just hang a single NPS in a 10 x 10 room. Hit those bastards HARD and then back off. You have to go after the Borg Blitzkrieg style or you'll end up "managing" them for the rest of your life.

And for those who like the "natural" methods, well, that is not for me. I'm not going to sit there like a dork washing every leaf on the plant. But I guess you guys have plenty of time for that inbetween eating Tofu and hugging trees.

Put 3-4 NPS (depending on room size) INSIDE the plants. Hell, put 10 in there for that matter. I grow big plants so I'll hang a NPS inside each plant. Keep them there for 2 weeks and then remove. Seal them up in a ziplock bag and keep them for next time you get an infestation. NPS will kill every living bug in the room.

ps. Buy them at Home Depot for about $5.50 each.

Oh, and to the guy who said his had no smell; They have a VERY distinct chemical scent. You certainly got a bad one.

Ive had good luck with predator mites. Got rid of them completely for a few months but they eventually came back. Now i just do some quick sprays 2-3x's a week with that safer stuff. I would use the mites more if I had a bigger grow, not just a closet. It was something like $16 for 100 predators.

I originally got the mites from a modesto club clone, but whenever i get rid of them they come back. I could very likely tracking them inside from outdoors or they could have came from other plants in the house.(not likely in my case) Ive also read somewhere pregnant females can hibernate in floorboards for a few weeks. Point is you will likely never ever get rid of them for good, especially if you live in a climate where they thrive naturally. Even if you dont they may still be in your house and you cant simply wipe them all out with one good spray after your infested once. Your only hope is to remain vigaliant and keep their numbers down and not let them adversly effect your plants.

^^You're not getting rid of them if they keep coming back...you're just controlling them. Break down and get a real miticide like Avid or Floramite and they will be gone forever unless you reintroduce them.

I've tried the safers soap...soaked the entire plant, pots and medium and it only slowed them down a little. I really wasn't impressed by it at all.

Ended up using Avid at 15 drops per gallon with SM90 and the bastards have been gone for over a year. Make sure to clean all of the surfaces in the grow room when you do a treatment or a stragler will inevitably find it's way back into the crop.

VERY distinct chemical aroma. It used to make me kinda sick before I got used to it.

IMHO a good preventative measure that everyone should have in their grow room.

^agreed^

i keep them in a closet every once and awhile, and turn off fans while lights are off, the smell is nauseating, i usually open door, turn on fan, and walk away for awhile.

I have tried the HotShot strips but never had the luck with them that many people have. Remember that mites get used to products and it is good to switch them around.

avid and floramite are insanely expensive. The cheapest i found for either was over 90 bucks for 8 ounces. (didnt look too long) Do you know where they sell it in smaller quantities or for alot less?

The predator mites worked completely (for alot less) I just tracked the mites back in through clones or something im shure.

I might actually try to get rid of them for good (again) if i didnt live where they thrive naturally, and my grow setup allowed me to keep a more controlled environment. For now im just going to use safer and pyrenthian sprays, with an occasional release of predator mights if/when the situation warrents.

PREDATOR MITES, nothing works better then something that eats 5-20 mites and there eggs a day, you get 500 of them for $25, so if every single predator eats 5-20 mites and eggs a peice thats some quick action....and once all the mites and eggs are gone the predator dies because they only eat mites.

Your local hydro shop may have it available by the vial for around $10 (it's a gray market transaction so don't ask them in front of a crowd if they have them). Otherwise, I've seen members on grow forums that bought the larger quantities that are willing to give a vial of it away.

Occasionally a small town insect control business will sell small quantities as well if they're sure you're not going to report them for distributing controlled pesticides to a non licensed person.

growersupply.com has pints of Avid for $93 if those other options aren't available to you.

SMC is just that A LEAF WASH. Did absolutely nothing for spider mites. Ladybugs did a better job than that stuff did.

I have a quart of Floramite SC and paid $250 (Doh!!). Used it several times but the mites kept comming back. I then switched to the No Pest Strips and they've been gone for 6 months (crossing fingers).

mites are terrible man, the best thing to do is take precautions to prevent them from even showing up in the first place, once they show up they multiple big time.
