If you watch the video you'll see - it's because there was a caravan fire above ground, then the police saw a generator wired to a freight container above the surface.

They investigated that, and then found a manhole, with stairs (pictured above), which led to the underground operation.

Peace

You're welcome; I was thinking the same, but I also think there was more to it, as at the end of the video, it mentions two previous arson attempts at the site, so there was obviously something going on.

I wonder how long it was up and running for? Also, did you notice on the video, it looked very cramped and really didn't look like it would pull off enough for the amount of labour it took. A guy I know has a barn with a generator and he probably produces way more, well, not way more but comparable. And all for much less over-head. I guess I don't know the full facts or the amount it was making so really I am just talking out of my ass. Just rambling I guess.

diesel is like $4.00 a gal.
that's insane... someone said you'd have to fill a 200 gallon tank like every week or so..
but if your running 15-20k watts, money shouldn't be an option...
and its a small price to be off the grid...

Well everything is indeed bigger in America, lol

Here in Europe you can only buy about 2 gallons of diesel at a time from a 'gas' (re: petrol, lol) station!

So that would be 100 visits, lol

I realise what you meant BB,just want to input that large deliveries can be made directly by tanker to your location. If your operation is strategically placed you may even be able to source 'red diesel' i.e. agricultural grade at a discount.Always some dodgy farmers looking to make a quick pound/euro.

of course an impeccable cover operation needs to be in place here. And most preferably at least one of your crew needs to be able to service that genny

What is the average dieel tank size on say a Ford Super Duty? And what is the average size of an 18 wheelers tank? Just curious to see how viable this really is. Sounds like a good idea so far. It might take 5 or 6 fill ups at different stations, but big deal. It won't look suspicious filing up a truck.

the ford dually holds 38 gal's only...better off sticking to using a 18 wheeler

With all that running around town filling up diesel tanks every two weeks, it seems like it would be alot easier to just run four smaller sites. Instead of going for 24,000 watts at one location and needing to be off grid, a grower could just run 6000 watts at four different locations without the need of a generator.

Yes but then you have four locations to maintain. While you may make several trips one day, every 2 weeks, with 4 sites, you would be at 4 sites every day.

Economies of scale make 1 large site more efficient. There are advantages to running multiple sites though, but its not as efficient as on big one.

Get a tank to go in the back of your truck

I dont think a generator is the answer to your guys problems, I think 24k wouldnt be hard in a commercial space....

But they do make propane conversions for generators, no problem getting a tanker of propane to your house...

Dont know anything about the prices though.

About the name Nguyen The reason for that, wallyduck is ,its the second most common name, in vietnam. This is a big one.EXCLUSIVE by Pete Bainbridge

MACCLESFIELD detectives this week began their hunt for the criminal gang that masterminded and ran a massive cannabis factory in the town centre.
Bridge Street’s four-storey drug farm contained more than TWICE as much marijuana as police first thought – housing 17,500 plants.
And the street value of the haul is now estimated at TWO MILLION POUNDS – probably the largest of its kind ever discovered in the UK. Detectives first suspected that two illegal immigrants were running the operation for 18 months before a fire broke out on April 5, causing them to flee.
Macclesfield cop boss, Inspector Gareth Woods, said: "We don’t know what nationality the criminals are at this point, but we’re working closely with the immigration service in a bid to identify them and track them down."
Officers last night started trawling through the forensic data found at the property – including 42 different fingerprints – in a bid to close the net on those responsible.
The local investigations emerge from a background of national headlines about an increase in Vietnamese drug rings throughout the country and across the border, in Scotland.
Police originally found 8,000 plants in the Bridge Street house, which put it in line with one of the largest farms in the UK. But once the fire-ravaged building was secured, crime scene investigators were able to plumb the depths of the building’s murky basement, and have uncovered dozens of bin bags containing thousands more harvested marijuana plants.
Insp Woods added: "Obviously the most important thing to do when we first discovered the factory was to secure the building and make sure the structure was safe after the fire. Once this was done, we could then send in the crime scene investigators and do a full search of the building. The last place to look was the basement. In addition to the plants in the main body of the house, we found thousands more harvested plants in the basement. They were split into binbags, with around 80 or 90 per bag. We now believe there were around 17,500 plants overall, with an estimated street value of £2m."
The haul of plants was collected last week by specialist company Crackdown Ltd, based in Rochdale, who then destroyed them all.
One Bridge Street resident expressed her "total shock" when she realised she was living less than 50 yards from a four-storey professional drug den.
Sandy Law, who has lived on the sleepy street for 20 years, said: "I’ve never seen anything at all that would make me think the building was a cannabis factory. I was really, really surprised when I found out. It was a total shock. I never smelled anything or heard anything. It’s really frightening to think that the place could have blown up with all those chemicals inside."
Find out how 17,500 dope plants were removed - see this week's Express.
