this is what my current coots mix has become, mostly castings. I used to think this was awesome, with no real reasoning behind that assumption.

what is recommended for a base mix then?

thanks so much, in advance.

slownickle I can delete these posts if u don't want this here. I simply don't know where else to get solid advice

Correct no gypsum. 1/3 worm castings that I produced from thermo compost I made using mainly horse shit. Added various input while composting and then used as worm feed.

Space case, I'm done with this mix so I think testing it would be pointless.

Was planning on planting mounds on top of native without tilling but have changed my mind thanks to this discussion and will use a mini excavator to do trenches w/ derocked native and added compost, topsoil, etc. for the dep green house.

Recently broadcast 200 lbs(per gh) of high ca lime, 25lbs of CaNO3, K sulfate, some Sulpomag, compost and other minerals on top of native to stimulate cover crop and grass. Also threw some 16-20-00 AP/ AS on potting soil mounds w/ higher ph to prevent erosion. Wanting to go with potassium silicate for Si because Ca silicate is expensive to ship.

You could use that old mix as about 1/4 to 1/3 of your new mix.

sure, I considered that.. I have lots of uses in the yard for the old soil.. I am ready to start fresh.

I cant derail the slownickle thread...

please help me work through a few issues and concerns here:
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=333740&page=6
on my thread. there isn't any traffic there so we can freely discuss changing and improving upon the coots mix there.
those who have already lent a helping hand thank again, really appreciate it!

Most of us are not welcome in that forum. They take a very different view than we do. I gotta honor that view and stay out.

Cmon space...they have a right to that opinion. And if you have been in the hydro/coco forums lately whose weed would you rather smoke

Peaceful Valley has a sign that says 'Farmers wear jeans, not lab coats.'

....but they sell soil testing along with almost every micro sulfate, so i can't hate.

Speaking of, they have a separate soil test for soilless media vs soil:

"This test is a soil test. DO NOT submit container media (potting mix) or organic amendments for the standard 'soil' test"

Not sure what tests they use.

No water to too much water.. ha ha
Fingers crossed for a snowy spring in Colorado, with the warm temps currently it's still iffy for summer river levels

No idea whats going on in those forums. It depends on the scientist and depends on the hippie, I guess. I have seen some terribly dirty hippie grows that were in a state of entropy.
