i love how much i learn in this thread. i can see that, but have no clue about that type of thing. so when you say ditch water, is it literal trenches running this water around? or is it just the quality of water, like runoff. what about wells?

It's a network of small ditches & flow control gates branching from a larger canal that diverts water from a river or reservoir. Here in CO there are even massive collection systems where water is gathered on the western slope at high altitude & diverted under the continental divide to eastern slope reservoirs for agriculture & domestic water. It's highly managed with an arcane set of rules & regulations covered under the general heading of water rights.

This is a map of just one system-

very interesting indeed. inspired me to investigate my own areas water laws. seems like its a free for all here up to 100,000 gallons a day you dont even need a permit. thats if your property touches a stream or pond ect. of which there is a lot in my state. theres some pretty bold claims on the official website regarding that. very complicated stuff for farms that arent as lucky. anyway, cant say enough good about a thread that inspires me to learn new things.

Vast areas of the West are very arid from the Sierras to the Rockies & then again from the front range of the Rockies into the central plains. The govt has undertaken many, many projects to provide both irrigation & drinking water.

It's that evil big gubmint soshulism in all its glory.

still been plugging holes in the field with hemp clones and starts...

I worked for the USBR as a surveyor's aide in the early 70's on the Fryingpan Arkansas project. Spent two summers in the high country above Ruedi reservoir.

These guys are also a big part of the picture-

When the freshwater shrimp in Ruedi come out of the outlet the sudden pressure drop pops 'em like popcorn. The trout downstream are consequently lazy & hard to catch. Some of 'em kinda look like footballs..

moving water thru the mountains is a massive undertaking.... with even bigger implications (who gets water and who doesn't - who gets how much, and all via what gets diverted where)

mixed up a topdress today made of: home-made kashi, oly mtn compost, kelp meal, bio-live, perfect blend biotic (4.4.4 organic granular), vansil, oatmeal, and rootwise
put about 3 gallons of the mix around each full season outdoor plant and watered in with labs, fish emulsion, fish aminos, and more rootwise.

laying out the blackout material today and hoping to start darking out tonite/tomorrw morning making tomorrow day one of bloom for the light dep if we can get it all set up today

nothing yet, will figure that out as time goes on

I would factor it in for sure. I ran into mold even with an exhaust fan at the top. I would get a centralized exhaust fan as well as some box fans hanging from the top or oscillating fans on the floor to stir air around. Passive intake from the outside under the tarp. :2cents:

you ran into these issues when pulling tarp and leaving it on all night, correct?
i've been considering letting the sun rise on the whole thing, then pull the tarp in PM corresponding to sunrise; after sun sets i can pull tarp back off and give them night air and moonlight and natural sunrise; only problem with this is that i may be capturing HOT daytime air in the GH during pm hours, like from 5-9pm
but as you can see i have white on one side so that should help keeping temps cooler in the gh when the tarp is pulled and sun is hitting it.

How much water are you using bud? (Sorry if you posted it and I missed it). Crazy to think that 6 months out of year (unironically grow season) we get too much water.

for the outdoor full season and light dep im really not using that much water compared to people in my area growing in bigass fabric pots

if i had to guess i'd say im feeding the outdoor full season plants about 10 gallons per week; BUT that is in addition to saturating the soil around them using the ditch water by flooding the trenches that surround the holes; small trenches (3 inch wide or so) also flood into the planting soil area; im sure there may be some simple way to measure how much of this water im using (it emanates from a 4 inch pipe or so, probably let it flow for about 30-45 minutes total, 90 mins MAX and the yard with full season outdoor plants are WELL watered and the entire soil of the yard has a good saturation that reaches both in and around the planting soil beds and holes (including light dep, a small trench branches off and runs into the planting area of the GH)

our dang puppy (just over a year, still acts like a jerk) ran over a lime cookies bubba plant and killed it basically, second one she has done like that; first was a Guerilla Glue #4.... i'm replacing both those plants today (adding a cali connect girl scout cookies, and an alien plant as well as replacing the glue) AND starting to put cages up around the plants so we hopefully won't loose any more to canine damage
