Probably the same like Mendo Purps (The Purps) or Grand Daddy Purple (GDP) or even a Lavender (Soma Seeds #9).

FROM ANOTHER THREAD ON PURPS LINEAGE

They then crossed that(the mendo purps) to a very old purple Afghani and from those seeds is where the urkle cut comes from and 2-3 other purple cuts that have been pasted around Nor Cal. believe it or not.

The reason it was the only seed run made was due to all but 2 of the group getting busted in one of the largest outdoor grow busts to this day in Nor Cal back in the early 80's and they lost almost all of there breeding stock except for some seeds that they had stashed.

Very cool info! So according to that theory the Urkle is a (purps x skunk) x purpIe Affie?

I recently acquired the Grape Stomper cut and ran it a few times. It displays many PU traits. Purple underside of fan leaves, the flavor and stone are there about 50% and the other is SD so that comprises the other half of profile. I do see some of the hash plant the was used in the cross in the bud formation.

Still greatly miss my PU though.

Thanks a ton icmag for taking the time!!

And any and all info is greatly welcomed!

Best

This is from KIND REVIEWS....

PURPLE URKLE STRAIN INFORMATION

General Information

Type: Indica-dominant hybrid

Genetics: Thought to be a phenotype of Mendocino Purps

Geographic Origin: California, USA

Seed Company/Clone: Clone only

Description: A California medical scene cut that is dated back to the late 1980′s, the Urkle (also called Purple Urple, and Purple Urkel) is thought to have come from the Mendo Purps line. It’s a slow-vegging plant that almost always turns a deep shade of purple by the time it’s finished. It’s the purple plant of choice for many, as it’s known for being more potent and flavorful than many of the others.

History

Story: Purple Urkle is thought to be an inbred line dating back to at least 1989, possibly quite a bit earlier. Its origins are thought to be that of a pure Indica, likely coming from Afghanistan or Pakistan. It made its way into the NorCal medical clubs in the mid-90’s and has been going strong ever since, being crossed into a wide variety of strains due to its unmistakable coloration, smell, and overall stability.

makes sense to me..dj

2 strains that were around back in the day, still are

a purple indica and Manic, which is basically a green purple urkle, like twins but she is green

Is purple indica different from mendo purps?

Les (rip) i was told and would believe, was the one who, or was part of the crew, who did the urkle

Who knew les and has the info..

Is this right?:

the first time i grew what we now call the purps i couldnt sell it. nobody wanted black purple small dense pounds. that was 1998. flash forward 5 years and if you were not moving purple you were not moving. every body asked the same question then as they ask now? what is it?
i know the cut most likely didnt come from humboldt as thats where i live and our crew got it out of the bay area in 98 so i doubt it was bred here, went south and then came back with no one having a copy here. maybe but not likely.
we called it purple haze then. a few years into it i heard it called urkle and barney and those names were supposed to indicate that it was an even rarer version but you know how that bullshit is so no matter what the name you could always tell the flower from the orange hairs.
a few years after that the pretendicas came out. they looked like the purp but didnt smoke like the purp. could only sell it once lol. it started to be harder to find the real cut. og came out and eventually purp went away as far as top strain was concerned but during its run it was absolute ruler of the cali state.
what is it? who knows. solid indica that is very pm resistant outdoors and produces a fanatsic product outdoor here in humboldt. anybody grow it before 98? where did you get the cut from region wise? just like og-only the breeder really knows...

@30years~ I woulda thought you, of all folks, woulda known where Urkle comes from...it's been in SoHum since at least the late 80's according to the cats closest to the source...reputed to be a Purple Pakistani/Skunk #1 hybrid. I didn't think the Bay had Urkle as early as '98...I don't think Ken even had his "GrandDaddy" that early...which he claims to have gotten out of Salmon Creek.

@TheRealHash~ Purple Indica, Purple Urkle, & Mendo Purple are all very different plants...PI & PU could share a very distant relationship but I see zero relation to PI with the MP. Purple Indica & Purple Urkle look like they could be Pakistani dom phenotypes whereas Mendo Purple looks more like an Afghani type.

And what's up with all the misinformation in this thread comparing &/or claiming Mendo Purple & Purple Urkle relations? Have any of these people ever even grown MP & PU? I feel bad for people just looking for legit information and having to wade through all the bull$#!t garbage just to get a tidbit of facts here and there...unfortunately, by the time you make it through all the nonsense who know's what really is the truth if you do find it. :lightning:
