Hey vince! I was excited to come back with some good images. I hadn't snapped pics for a couple years. Just stopped carrying my camera with me as much. Cell phones take pretty good pics, but its not the same. You never get any good pictures if you aren't trying...

The plants are forming a canopy just in time for flower. They're short and stocky so they wont be as prone to falling over. This could potentially be one of my best crops. :smoke:

That was a quick post before bed. Yeah, guerilla its amazing what a little summer sun will do! They're doing their thing now. Just have to be patient.

Thanks sackoweed! Got a couple gardens with mostly big females. Can't wait to watch myself! Good to see ya! :smoke:

Refer to 2010 thread. Took the seed and grew out to seed each season. Replanting the previous season's seed. :smoke:

Received a little less than an inch of rain today! Was a nice steady light rain over several hours. Perfect rain to rehydrate the ground. Evening was sunny and breezy to help dry out the leaves before dark, reducing chance for disease. Things were just starting to get dry, so I'm glad watering crew came though! Hoping for another foot of growth this week. That would make the tallest around 6.5 ft. Going to put down final top dressing of Garden tone next trip. Going to wait another week before pulling all males. Want to let them pollinate until Aug 15, or pea size bud stage.

Plants are doing well, and grew about another foot this week! We have mostly females out there and I was only able to find 2 leftover males on the shady side of plot 2! Perfect. Didn't go crazy trying to sex every plant today, just wanted to make sure we still had males to make seed, need 2. I picked out the other males over the last few weeks to give the girls some room to fill in.

Used a hand shovel to break up the crust again. Worked the soil around the edge of the plot to allow more air, water, fertilizer into the rootzone. For the 2nd time, I pushed all loose soil into the garden to mound it up more. Piled most of the soil around the plants, so they are very sturdy, and forming new roots. I applied about 20 lb garden tone and worked it into the soil.

Spent about half hour or so checking for and removing diseased tissue. Lots of disease on other types of plants this year. Moist and hot is the perfect environment for disease. Not going to spray with anything this year though. The plants seem to be handling it. Its relatively minor damage, not any more than I usually see. I'll keep an eye on it, and spray if disease pressure is high.

Want to see some pics? Just a minute, lets see what we got... :smoke:

Watergrass/ yellow nutsedge. This is a really bad weed in some lawns. It grows very well with wet conditions in the summertime. Here's a healthy specimen from the edge of our field in a low area. Its a sedge not a grass. Triangular stem. Kind of like an underground bush. Love plants! :smoke:

Holy crap those plants are really filling in nicely. I was worried that they might drown with all the rain you were getting. But some Sun and a little pampering from you and boom.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers GG

Thanks gorilla, they did grow a lot! :smoke: Been working on them for sure, this morning I spent about 3 hours with them! Working the soil helps! Herb plants roots love to breathe, and it also gets water and fertilizer down in there. Disease has been an issue this year. If it were previous years where I didn't visit but once every 2-4 weeks, they would be much worse.

They were pretty close to drowning, and I know I lost some roots down below. The dry weather we're having should let them work back down. We did lose 2 females because of the high water. They were by the trench to nowhere. Thats the low end of the garden anyway, but I think if I didn't dig the moat they would have survived. By God, you learn something every year. :smoke:

looking good brother! yes we do learn something ever year to become a better grower..if u dont learn something each year that u are not advancing as a grower is what my mentor always told me..i think that is very true bc each year i learn what not to do lol..i think next year if u gonna use that same spot that u need to bring in some good potting soil and build it into mounts. u can get those 3.8 cf peat moss bails at lowes for like 20$ and those fluff up to like 6 cf which would be plenty. all u would need is some perlite to get oxygen to the roots and some the epsoma and ur good to go.

thanks kyg! yeah the screw-ups are always easy to see. :) On the big plants you can't always tell why one plant did better than another. :)

Thats a good idea, peat moss would look similar to soil. I don't use perlite except when starting because it may float up and stand out in the winter. Usually gets covered with leaves and winter weeds soon after harvest, but you never know if someone may walk by.

Dry weather expected this week besides a little rain tomorrow. Perfect pollination weather. You've got 1 week boys... :smoke:
