are the bulb supposed to make a one tone high pitched noise it quite a bit loud gives me a headache

Mine do not, and I have pretty good hearing. Are you using the correct ballast (low frequency) and does it look like the internal bracing in the lamp is intact (no loose pieces inside the lamp)?

it's the phillips ballast from advance and mogul bulb the bulb rattles when you handle it when it's turned off but that's from the top bracing being a little lose at the top the bracing looks intact but the arc tube looks like it's moving back and forth a little it's like the bulbs picked up a harmonic but i'm not sure

I haven't used any of the mogul lamps, but the T9 & T12 versions are quiet. You might want to contact Advance and see if this is a common complaint. It would seem to me that if the top bracing is loose it cannot to the job that it is intended to do, and the lamp will fail prematurely from the movement of the arc tube and subsequent work-hardening of the support structure.

I am running 3 Advance kits with mogul bases, and none make any noise.

Not trying to be an ass , but you guys who cant hear the high pitch might want to get your ears checked LOL. I goyt great hearing just had it done and the girl was blown away . Mine whine too they are the moguls though. So it could be a mogul to pgz thing or the advanced phillips possibly all do . And if you think iim crazy go watch Thomas's video on his site his is got the same high pitch I will go down and see but I believe it is louder on startup. Or as they build in intensity. After hearing his do it on his site I was worried they would be able to be heard from out side the roombut they are not too loud where you can hear them.

I have a 620 LEC and (2) of the 315's.

Only one 315 DOESN'T hum.

I even sent the 630 back to Sunlight only to be swapped out with another noisy ass unit.

Bad bulbs?!

My high frequency hearing isn't very good because of decades in noisy work environments & an affection for high decibel Rock as a much younger man, so I asked my sons to listen for me. My T9 930's on ceramatec ballasts are apparently silent.

Thought I would pop back day 35 of flower, just over half way there. So far so good they seem to be doing the job, very aromatic smells running through the tent, about 3/4 degrees c cooler than when I ran the Gavitas - nice long blooms, going to be some cola sized bottle buds I reckon.

In the past I found I would use 100ltrs per 600w Gavita per week - with these lights the plants are drinking 300 ltrs per week, and I am only burning a total of 1260w.

it's the top part that i circled that is little lose around the nipple so you can hear a rattle when you handle it i didn't think it was that was problem is it? ATL said it's fineand shouldn't effect bulb performance

also i doubt the bulbs meant to make noise like this constantly otherwise the shops and stores would never use them for display lighting which is one the things cmh's are used for

I would expect that any internal bracing that is supposed to keep a lamp from rattling itself apart from harmonics would be snug, but it could be that it is supposed to grow enough when it comes up to operating temperature that the tolerances would tighten up.

Unclecrash, I'll happily put my hearing up against anyone's -I've always worked in noisy industries, but have worn hearing protection religiously. We always had yearly hearing tests, and mine invariably tested out even better than the gals in the office.

ATL says the bulbs are alright but their making a mosquito like sound and i know that can't be right it's like my ears are ringing (Tinnitus)

so are these bulb alright or not

My 315w bulbs sometimes make a tiny mosquito like sound, could be the ballast though, not sure if the sound comes from the bulb or the electronics. It's not loud enough to be heard outside the tent though.

Hi its called Lot#5evolution its an oldtimer1 strain of south african origin I think.

Just to add to the discussion the ballasts buzz like fuck for a little bit when they turn on but it doesn't last long.

Maybe this is an age thing? Most people over 40 can't hear anything over 15khz. Most teenagers and younger can hear into the 18-20 khz range, which is why they use the "mosquito" ringtones that most of their teachers and other adults can't even hear. There are even anti-loitering devices on the market to keep teenagers from hanging out in certain areas that don't bother most adults at all - because they don't even hear them.
