First complete flowering with a 930 Greenpower in a D'pap and I'm quite impressed.

Having read most of the thread I have a question.
I am not the sharp when it comes to lighting, I started with CFL's, then LED, then 400W HPS and MH for veg.
Now I am considering the 120V ballast with the 315W CMH.
My question is I want to run a vertical grow, can this lamp be run vertical and since it runs cooler than HPS can I run it close to the plants.
I have a 4x2.5 foot about 9 sqft cabinet .
Any info would help,
GR

315's are universal burn so they'll work in vert. Per rives & others they can run pretty close to the foliage. I just run mine overhead, keep the foliage 12-18" away.

My question is: why do you run a 315W CMH vertically?

The 315 spectrum shift from vert to horizontal is 500K , all along I've been thinking it's +500 if run horizontal but after reading something else I found it's +500 running vert.
I run vert only because I swap out 860 allstarts in the winter and use the same hood with adapters and a quick change of ballast it's a 315 in the summer.

I put some under after they got they first two real leaves, they shot up pretty good, better than the cfl actually but my cfl isnt quite close enough so they stretch, no stretch barely at all under the 315.

I also have some under a 315. I germ under a t5 100w. After they have a good set of leaves there moved to a 315.

Anyone with direct experience growing seedlings under these?

Yep, go look at my thread. I have 7 going right now and a couple more behind them. Put them under a humidity dome with T5 for 2 days after they popped and then stuck them under the 315s. Kept them at 160 μmoles for a few days and then bumped them to 350 μmoles. I've been bumping the light to 650 μmoles for a few hours to get them acclimated quickly to high light levels and maximize growth. There are some pics I just posted in my thread. BTW, I'm using the 942s and adding a small amount of blue (440 nm).

A few more details. My lights are at least 50 inches from the seedlings, but the PPFD is at the canopy. The leaf temperatures are about 3 degrees lower than ambient, which is 80 degrees.

As an aside, I'm really annoyed that there isn't any info out there on light levels (PPFD and DLI) for seedlings. I measured the light from the T5 unit under the dome at normal distance and got 70 μmoles. I figured they could tolerate more light so I immediately bumped them to 160 μmoles. I wish more people had light meters or guys who write books had them. It would make all of this trial and error shit go away. Hopefully no error!

Never had a plant die from too much light, if you can hold the top of your palm under the light without problems then the plant can handle the heat as well.

I put sprouted seeds in organic soil with the dirt ~3' below my 630w fixture. It's good to tent 'em with clear plastic until the first set of true leaves are at least 1" but not absolutely necessary if you're diligent about spritzing the top of the soil. The seeds of the current mixed batch went into paper towels April 18, into beer cups over the next few days, moved up to 3L airpots w/ blumats after 3 weeks & are now ~15" & bushy as Hell with one much larger. That's at 6 weeks.

I suspect it might work better w/ the soil closer to the light but that wouldn't be easy in my space.

FCC put a hold on the aircooled LEC because of a part that is not approved...

Not sure what that means, my source only said that and ETA is pushed back...

I asked if it had to do with the socket, but he didnt answer the question...

I wouldn't think its because of the socket. I would bet its the same Pgzx18 they use in all there other LEC fixtures

If it is the FCC that is involved, the part in question is probably the ballast. The FCC would get involved because of the potential for disrupting radio broadcasting and wireless communication because of RF interference.

$1195?!! Is that right? Seems kinda high. You could almost get 4x phantoms for that price...
