Pheno Hunting strategies

ok so im working on a similar project with karmas biker kush v2.0. and archives faceoffbx2
my plan is to get a keeper stud.
i dont want to do endless prodigy tests with 50+ males.

its essentially a reversal of males for identifying female bud quality characteristics.
im going to take all my males and clone them for both back ups and a pheno run.
ill pack em in a retired closet grow that a friend abandoned this summer and run high numbers under 2 lights from very small clones. apply ethaphon to reverse til i see bud structure and can run tests on potency and terpine profiles.
this will get me narrowed down to a few hopefully to then run progeny tests on.
i know some of the breeders do this but you dont see it discussed much. maybe i missed a thread somewhere but the above link is all could find.
as for selscting females i would veg them to preflower but take cuttings from them by topping and run your selection off the clones. itll be more accurate. im ditching my seed moms after my cloned back ups and testers take. good luck.

I love the way ur doing ur males. I don't know how to get the male reversing stuff, so my plan is to select the best couple males after flowering them, and offspring test and hope I get lucky.

Ive heard the clones might give better representation of the plant but I don't get why. My plan was to run the seed moms to flower keeping clones of everything, then select the best few and run them from clone to flower for a second test.

Ill check out ur thread when I get some time. I gots to do some building here soon.

for a limited space scenario like this and you don't want to top what i suggest is one of the following.

start the grow 12/12 from seed, they all show sex by 6-8 weeks once they show sex flip lights back to 14+hours light and veg till they are however you like them or continue flowering. if you don't have much vertical room this won't work for you.

option 2

veg the plants normally when they reach whatever height you wanted to flip at, top them. clone all the tops and continue vegging the clones you took then flower out the rest of the plant like normal.

option 1 you wont get to see the full structure of the plants but you can quickly sex.
option 2 you can see the full structure minus mail cola in flower but you won't see sex till after you take your clones.

i like option one myself you can quickly isolate males and if you want them to veg more just flip the lights back to normal and continue vegging. this will also help you reduce selecting herms as flipping flower like that causes stress and weak plants will herm out.

they wont branch much in 12/12 from seed unless you top them. but if you were gonna take clones anyway doesn't matter if you take it from the top or side.

alternating nodes is not specifically genetic. most plants alternate notes at maturity, although some don't, most will. i thought i saw someone mention that earlier.

i havent found any accounts online of people writing about being busted on these forums for posting. it would at least create enough stir to get some search items to pop up. this would be a pretty lengthy avenue for catching a pot grower.not to say you should be dumb about it but due diligence and common sense i think should be sufficient it seems given the ammount of people posting trouble free for years on end n-

the danger isn't in some cop being smart enough to be in a chat room/forums lurking and trying to find you. the danger is in if someone or yourself has already gotten police attention, then they can and will use any evidence against you. so don't take pics with cell phones or the newer gps enabled cameras. strip exif data, i hear it's done automatic when you upload to site but why take chances. no personally identifiable information. as george carlin says, no one should ever help the police.

as long as you aren't posting pics of large warehouses, scales you use to weigh up, the thousands of hundred dollar bills you're collecting, your new skiboatcargun, or showing off your tattoos and talking about all the kids you sell drugs to, then i doubt you should attract any police suspicion online or off.

good luck. phenohunting is fun. but i don't pop more then i can handle in a flower room.. so if my flower room can fit 100 1 gallon grow bags.. ill do 150-200 seeds.. and pic females to transplant.. and males get cut so that theres just 1 spot for new growth . keeping the males super small.... until needed..

Cool thanks for the reply. My strategy is to tp all the plants to 1 gallon pots. Start to flower, then pull the males out and spread out the females so they have twice the room to finish. But if I did it ur way I could get rid of the majority of the males before I tp. I will have to think this one over for next time. I want to keep some males, but not having to tp all 50 of them would save some effort and medium.

I am a firm believer in running a cut from a keeper many times, in different environment. Start with a base and test under different conditions. For instance a strain from a mountain or highland region will be much different grown in a hot humid condition than a cool low humidity condition.

Getting to know a strain very well takes time. 2 years is right on imo. You will notice the best breeders do not release 15 strains a year.

Pick a strain that intrest you and grow as many as you can. Keeping records and clones of all interesting plants. You have DJ seeds, pick one and grow it out but save seeds to find males later. Spend time on that one strain and you will be rewarded with a fantastic cut to run or make seeds with a male you spent time testing as well.

Either way its a lot of fun and the results are always smokable, well mostly haha. Good luck!

I get what ur saying here but my minds stuck on running the same cut a few times and dialing her in to a good indoor environment and then breed her, cause pretty much all I do is indoor. And I don't want to know necessarily what will do good in a poor condition but what does best in a great condition.

I think what ur saying might be a good idea if I was gonna sell these to the public, so they would get a more stable product that performs in many environments. But these are just for me and friends, maybe the server down the road if I feel they are worth it.
