Bro bro bro. Check pond snails. (They are the kind that kinda come as unwanted pets with aquarium plants and sometimes fish.) Any aquarium or pond snail that eats algae will do, tho.
And, altrough I don't like saying this.. get the cheapest.. cause you'll most probably kill them at some point.

OK 👍🏻

I've got lots of lakes and rivers around to scoop up some living things.

I can just go fishing and get some sunfish, catfish, perch, rock bass, sheepshead etc.

I don't have an aquarium right now so I'll think about what I'm going to do.

There is room for an aquarium in the closet.

I don't know if I want to start another hobby though, but I can get a cheap used aquarium and free fish for it.

She's got a tiny bit of nute burn, but she just got her first dose of ¼ strength nutes two days ago.

Yep, it's called Aquaponics. Often they use Tilapia as the fish.

I did a bit of research on Tilapia and found out that Tilapia fillets were being imported from China a few years ago.
The fish farm was inspected and they found that the fish were being fed only manure.

So they can definitely deal with a lot of shit. Lol

I think that Talapia as food is now banned as an import in the USA

I skimmed through that pot cast and realized that I have a dual root zone going on in my closet planter.
I have a cotton minnow net separating the two zones and clay pellets, instead of lava rock and burlap.

I have lots of stuff growing in my planter with algae, moss, soil mites, spring tails, and probably lots of microbes.
I want to have it as close to natural as possible.
It tends to take care of itself if the entire planter and the plant are as organic as possible.

And I found out that I want a "River Tank" !!

That's right up my alley, it's exactly what I was thinking of.
The root system of the bottom half of the dual root zone is in the fish tank where it filters the water keeping both the fish and plant happy.

I've got three huge panes of glass from a shower stall that I can use to make something.

Now to try and figure out a design that works and fit it into my closet.
Then I have to deal with trying to cut the glass which will be a big pain in the ass. I've got a tile saw with special blades that should cut it and I'm pretty sure that it's not tempered glass, so it shouldn't shatter when I try to cut it.

And of course, I will need to get off my ass and actually get to it. lol

I am pretty sure that shelving glass is tempered. Try to chip a corner you don't need. You'll find fast. Make sure you are somewhere you can clean easy and fast.

The corner where the hinge attached is chipped, so I think that I'm OK to try and cut it?,...

I also learned that glass shower doors can spontaneously explode out of nowhere.
They go off like a gunshot and spray shrapnel everywhere.

I believe that it is the tempered glass that can do that though?

I don't want my aquarium to explode. lol

Luckily, tempered glass breaks into chunks and not shards, but I'd still have a flood, and fish flopping around the house. lol

Dude you definitely dont have any soil mites alive, you would need a mulch layer and you water with salt nutrients that kill them. Just because you have algae doesnt mean your soil is alive. The algae actually eats all of your nutrients and inhales all the gasses before your roots can even get to them. If you had soil mites you would see them walking in the soil

I just checked and they are alive and well in my closet planter.

But they are really hard to find and see and run about 45 MPH. lol
And they hide from the light.

I managed to take a video and took some screen shots of them...

I spent the day rebuilding my window sill.

I now have a more reliable adjustable light fixture, and I added a fan.

My cracked seed is now a week old and still looks like it's one day old,..

It's not dead, and it does appear to have grown a bit?

I gave it a HUGE dose of LITFA and put her back in the rafters where it's nice and warm.

I see nothing that resembles any kind soil mite or living thing, but roger that!

I caught one of the slippery Bastards and took more pictures...

My fingers are showing through the clear plastic for a size reference.
They're fricken tiny.
