Diary PCBuds mini-grow

I piled up a bunch of dry soil against the stalk of the seedling and gave her a small drink.

She looks good.

My closet plant only grew 1/2" since yesterday, so she has really slowed down her stretch.

We'll see if the growth picks up again.
I may have broken her a bit too soon.

I'll know for my next plant anyway.
I'll be growing another Reiko plant the same way as this plant, so things should be very close to the same.

My closet plant has grown an inch since I snapped her top.
The top is standing on her own now so I removed the wire.
She's really thirsty now and drinking about 2 litres a day.
I think I'll switch to just the bloom nutes tomorrow after today's watering.

So, she is still growing taller but has slowed down to just a crawl.
I guess that I should have waited longer before doing the LST but at least I know how much it affects growth so I can better plan for the next plant.
And I learned a new trick !!

She has about 9" of room left to grow but she probably won't grow more than a couple.
I'd rather have her a bit too short than a bit too tall and have to cut her top off.

The top of the main cola...

Side colas...

Not much action with the seedling, probably due to the cold.
The plant and soil are only 63°F.
They certainly grow faster in the summer when the window sill gets above 75°.

Nice! Am glad she has recovered. I would have tied the bent stem down (rather than up) to maintain the bend (and reduce the height)... but looks like you got away with it! Plants are pretty forgiving generally - I've done full-on U or S bends before, and immediately bound the plant with string, and they keep right on growing. Just need to be careful not to mess with the bend in the days immediately following.

It worked great !
All I wanted to do was slow the stretch but maintain the shape, so tieing it up straight was perfect.

It may have worked too good because she has almost stopped stretching.
I don't know how much taller she's going to get or how long stretching normally lasts.

I just siphoned off some water from the bottom of my planter to check the PH and it was cloudy and stunk like sewage, so I drained it all off, refilled it (down through the fill tube) with RO water, then siphoned it out, then started over with PHed nuted RO water that I poured in at the stalk.

Everything seems fine, and I didn't notice the plant showing any problems, so I think I'm good.

My last plant turned to sewage and it almost croaked.

Your plant is gorgeous!!!!!
:plant grow:

Thank-you :thank you:

It was really easy too.
I just followed the chart for the nutes, kept her watered, and I could ignore her and let her do her thing.

(not that I actually did ignore her. I check the closet about 25 times a day. Lol)

She is 34" tall now, so she is still stretching.
I may have timed this perfectly.
She may grow a few more inches before she's done.

The mystery plant is doing great, but it may be competing for resources now?

Maybe I should cull it, but I don't want to curse my luck and bring bad MOJO to my Grow Grow.

Maybe I'll just break it's neck like I did with it's rival. Lol

I saw this post in Greenheart's thread...

That 5000k (i think) 98 cri is GORGEUS. These are Bridgelux THRIVE leds, the same i wanna test next time!!!!

Can you elaborate on the leds?

I stopped researching leds after I bought all my strips, because I didn't want to find out that my strips are crap and I need to spend more money to upgrade.

I hope my strips aren't 40 cri STRIVE leds. Lol

Does the plant really care about the color rendering index?
And if so, how much?

My plant seems to be doing great and I'd hate to think that I'm neglecting her by using older technology.

PS... I have been drinking, and toking, and overthinking. Lol

Your leds are good.

In vegetative stage plants can grow with monocromatic leds, there are many tests of plants grow with ONLY green leds.

But in flowering nothing can beat the sun (cri 100).
So in the future i wanna test 2000/2200k cri 60 leds (almost an enhanced hps spectrum) vs 5000k cri 98 (almost sun spectrum at noon in summer without near uv and near ir) in flowering.

Cri was made for humans.
Humans use retinal as chemical to see.
Retinal is a photosyntetic compound of the carotenoid family.
This is why the PAR spectrum (300-800nm) coincide with the human visible spectrum (360-740nm)!!

Remember that cannabis was selected for a lot of generations to flower properly under hps.
This is why most of the landraces doesn't flower well under them.

Shes a fine plant! What you might have seen if you had bent down the main stem and kept it tied down to reduce the dominance, would be that the secondary branches increase in size (and produce more bud). The highest stem produces a hormone (auxin) that suppresses growth in lower branches - and if you lower the height of the tallest stem and there are several others that are all of a similar height, they grow more than they otherwise would.

She is 35" tall today.

She has 9" of headroom left.

I think what I'll do is just let her grow, and if she gets to about 3" from the ceiling, I will bend her top over and maybe tie it down.

That way she has a chance to fill the closet, at least with the main cola.

I don't think I want a flat canopy especially if it is 9"-10" from the ceiling.

I've got tons of side lighting so the side branches should get plenty of light, and the main cola can take advantage of the ceiling strips.
I've got four 2 foot strips on the ceiling, as well as four 1 foot strips on the walls at the ceiling, that the plant is still a long way from.

The seedling is coming along, just really slowly.
I think I see her second set of leaves starting.

So, does anyone have any guesses as to how long my plant will be stretching ?

Am I looking at a couple of days, or a couple of weeks or more ?

She appears to have slowed her stretch to about an inch a day.

8 more days of stretch would be perfect !!

Stretch is usually about 1/3 of the flowering time, these should stretch about 2-2.5 weeks. I would say ypu have less than a week left.

That's what I wanted to know.

It looks like it might not end up as tall as I wanted, but that's better than too tall.

I may get another 6" out of her.

Her stretch is picking up speed now after she recovered from the break.
