I found the leak!!!

Those are little bubbles rising, either oxygen or hydrogen.

I'll clean it up and give it another coat.

I'm going to forget about the underwater light idea.

It doesn't serve me any real practical purpose.

I may coat the LED chips in the future.
It's a great way to protect the segments.

Then I can just stick the strips right in the plant, Lol, it won't matter if the leaves touch the segments.

Its good for foliar treatments too

I found another gnat flying around.

This one wasn't on the plant and seemed to be a lot bigger, almost the size of a mosquito.

I couldn't look at it through the microscope because I squished it. Lol

I Googled "self-watering planter" and found this...

That's almost the same thing that I came up with.

I made my float level out of a fishing bobber and stuck a stick in it.

I put the red mark on the other end of the scale to mark the high water line because I don't have a drain hole.

I had no idea what I was trying to make when I started.
It was ReikoX that said it was a SIP, and that I needed an air gap between the soil and water, so I added clay pellets at the bottom with a fiberglass sheet on top to separate the soil and water.

I'm really liking how it's working for me.

I'm going to change things up a bit and put everything from the cooler into this bucket instead.

It's about the same volume, but it's 3 1/2" taller and it's round.

That way, I can turn the bucket in the closet to see and inspect the plant better.
