Hey all! Im about to start my first grow ever with the budget staying as low as possible so i will need some help. I havent bought anything yet, but im gonna buy the case (not sure of the size yet.) Then i was thinking that ill buy 3 or 4 30W 2700k lamps, will those do the job? Also ive seen that some people have somekind of glass or plexi under the light, whats the purpose of it?
The grow has to be as stealth as possible, so any suggestions of eliminating the smell? I looked up a couple of DIY carbon filters, and will probably do one myself.. And what about the fans, where and how(blowing in or out?) should i install them?
I also heard about this LST techique, what does it actually mean?
Then the last question: what strain should i start growing? something that doesnt smell that much. I could get some WW seeds probably for free, but ive heard that WW smells quite alot?

Peace out :joint:

I think I've got an addiction... I'm addicted to pc grows. I havn't started my grow yet cos i'm going OS for a month but People throw out computers and I can't help but bring it home, strip it, line it with mylar, put a fan and some lights in it.

Is this thread the support group?

mehupurkki, There is a wealth of info on these boards, the best advice I can give is to start at page one of the micro grows and read through all the threads that relate to growing in a pc and also the wattage you're using too, do the same with the grow diaries and then do the same with what ever medium you're growing in (hydro, soil, coco etc.) It takes a few weeks or months but but the end of it, you will have all the info you need and when you start, you're plants are gonna be the healthiest and you'll have all the confidence to grow. :2cents: Happy lurking and reading:lurk:

Has anybody successfully integrated a functioning computer into a grow computer? I'm considering a computer clonebox and speaker flower cabs.

would it be possible to make the internal pc speaker beep every 30 minutes? what would i have to hook it up to in order to make that happen? a motherboard?

I don't think it would be all to safe to grow inside a functioning PC even if you could work the space out, too much humidity for PC internals. Mine sits next to a couple of functioning PC's One is full of hard drives and far louder than my pc grow box. It's a lie between two truths.

great thread guys.Im in the process of building a pc grow box.I have got as far as gutting the case and planned out where i want my lights and fans but i have 1 question regarding the use of the psu for the fans.I checked out lemons thread on how to wire the fans to the psu but just need something clearing up.aprt from the connectors going to my fans and the power cable that you join together(green to black etc) can i just cut all the other wires off and tape them up as otherwise there are alot of useless cables hanging around taking up valuable space!
Thanks for any help guys.

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd jump on the PC Case Grower Club bandwagon, so here I am.

First PC Grow so I'm only doing one Purple Widow plant so far, sort of as a test run. Case needs major mods that will be carried out when I have the time.

Peace

Can anyone reccomend a good strain for growing in pc box? Preferably a strain that is quite low on odour?Stealth is a major issue for me so im mega paranoid about the smell giving it away. Thanks for any input.

Greenclaws, do you have a clone provider? Because if you base your low odor
strain on seeds from a seed bank you still dont know what phenotype you
will be getting, so trying to find lowest odor plant may be a waste of your time...
just cause the low odor plant MAY have a sister seed that smells potent; same
strain just one takes after the smellier parent plant.

Not to mention they all smell at some point!

I suggest ONA (odor Neutralizing Agent). $6 Stuff is non toxic and turns any
smell into the smell of white linen for about 2 months... so with one of these i
would say you can run any strain undetected.

As for height, same goes for above... this characteristic is pheno dependant...
however Low Stress Training can shove even the tallest plants into a PC.

ok thanks for the info.i was asking about strains as i was wanting to find one a few people may have had experience with that i would try a few and select a mother that i could use clones from as i do have a chamber i was going to use for that purpose.
I have been wondering about the ona blocks for awhile now but heard a few mixed reviews on them. i think ill just try find a supplier and find out for myself.i guess any help on the odour is better than none so will give them a go.
Thanks again for the help

hey all i got a question for pc fans im doing this 100% so no carbon filters can be hanging out, i was deciding to make up for the loss of cfms from carbon filter ill be adding which will bring it lower than the intake should i add a second carbon filter so i osuld have 2 carbon filters and 1 intake, the 2 pc fans for the filters would be using 31.65 cfm air volume and 15.9 cfm airflow before adding the carbon filters while the intake would be 31.65 cfm,

or my ther plan would be have 2 pc fans but have the exhaust in the front and intake in the rear, since i can use a bigger fan up front if i have too. this would jeopardize its security since i know the people who i rent from know jack bout computers so they wouldnt see the difference if air was coming out in the front rather than the back. the cfm for the carbon filter exhaust before adding the filter would be 73.7 cfm airflow volume while the intake would be 31.65 cfm air volume.

which of these plans sounds better? i owuld like to have 2 compartments like the nano machine but its not doable atleast this for this grow thanks for the advice and suggestions. if ya have any other ideas itd be greatly appreciated :D

It would be helpful to know how much wattage you are running in there? Also standard PC fans don't move enough air to push or even pull through a scrubber unless you are running very low wattage and don't need alot of air exchange. Give us some more info and we might be able to help

aight itll be 2 23w cfls 2700k, umm and for pc fans arent there a fair amount of ppl here who have had real good succes with them and for the carbon air filter im gonna be building one off of sugabear_II's micro carbon scrubber which has had lots of success using pc fans also

If you buy a small carbon filter, you should be able to grow most strains without worry. Just don't try growing UK Cheese.

Hey guys, really newb question but I've just gutted an old server case and plan to use it as a stealth box from my mother plants. I was wondering what the best way to put a power strip along the top of the case would be? Just using glue?

I was also wondering if anyone could tell me the name of the connectors that you plug your CFLs into which then plug into the power strip?

Thanks a lot, sorry for the basic questions but i'm the most impractical person ever lol =/

Cheers!

you need to be careful with the type of glue you use and what lights you will be housing in the case... i have had glued lights drop in the summer during the light cycle with terrrible results. Also be wary of the toxicity of the glue, you don't want to incubate toxic substances.

If you do glue it, rig up some sort of safety chain or cable incase the glue lets go. Those adaptors are called Light socket adaptors @ Home Depot
