Panama Clone

Took this Panama clone from her outdoor mum.
She has a red stem. Could this indicate a Red pistil pheno?

Let's play a doubleheader!

Let's play a doubleheader!

I'd leave 'em together & see what happens, maybe use a bigger pot.

Thanks Jhhnn for your input. It's coming up to a month now since I first germed the seed. I've posted two pics, and as you might be able to see, the tops are very different. For that reason, I'm thinking of growing them out a bit more, separating them, and finishing them as separate plants to see if there's any difference.

A couple of quick questions from reading these forums. Any advice or comments are welcome.

1. Is there a rule of thumb regarding veg times for sativas? I've basically grown indicas, and generally let them go 6 or 7 weeks before I flip the lights on them or clone them.

2. What's the consensus on what constitutes flowering time? Personally, I start counting the day I flip the lights. But reading these forums -- maybe it's because there are a lot of outdoor growers -- I get the impression it could be when you first see flowers.

My game plan is to veg and then clone these as I finish the grow I have right now, then plunk the clones directly into flowering when the current grow comes to an end. I've got height restrictions but I figure I can do four small plants (I've also got a Golden Tiger seedling).

kenabyss, greetings and welcome. Good questions and in response I can say for Q1. Veg time plus hight restrictions??? Sounds like a quick trip to Ace Seeds more info section under each strain they stock you find both details and extra info.
If you wish to grow big sativas in big pots they will grow bigger and taller the longer you veg them. I have a 160cm height restriction on my tent. So I veg them under 18hours light schedule for 4 to 6 weeks. I top all mine to reduce height but increase yield. I then top a second time and use LST like with Indicas to get the even cannopy. If you want more clones I take them from my second toppings. I then wait for the clones roots to show before I move my mother parent plant to flower tent whilst I veg her baby clones.
Ihave just run a SCROG over both my Malawi Fem and My PanamaFem. Both to keep height issues away and ease of use.
I also run a second SCROG with clones of my two other parent plants in my flower tent.

In response to Q2 Sativas take time much more than indicas to first finish and then cure. So patience is the key. Rather than disappoint yourself and your energies waiting on harvest dates to be exactly as advertised on the packet try your idea of when you see the flowers form. Count from there. If they get to be earlier harvested, then you will get to enjoy the rewards sooner than expected rather that way round than the waiting wsiting....I hope you agree.
And with Sativas a long cure will yield extra special qualities compared to the commercial indicas and modern hybrids most seem to smoke fresh from the plant almost!!
Like any great creation that takes that long to grow and perfect , give about the same ammount of time to after care drying and curing and you will have some dynamite herbs!!!
Happy growing!!!

The root balls of the two seedlings are essentially one mass, so I wouldn't try to separate 'em. It would set them back significantly.

Veg time in a low overhead situation is tricky & highly dependent on light intensity & nutrients. HPS will give more stretch than broad spectrum lighting, as well. I have yet to grow Panama, but Ace describes it as tall & branchy w/ 9-12 weeks flower time. That's generally measured from the flip to 12/12.

Discretion is the better part of valor if you want to avoid serious management problems. I'd expect more stretch from Panama than from hybrid Indicas.

Everybody's situation & technique are different. I just grow from seed, one batch after another. Yield is not my primary concern. I don't trim or scrog, just cut away lower branches that won't get enough light. Intense wide spectrum lighting in my space encourages branching & short internodes. There's little point in letting 'em get more than 12" tall before the flip because even intense light won't penetrate far enough past the canopy to increase yield of anything other than larf with 6 plants in an irregular 4x4 area. Plants w/ open structure actually yield better. Check the pics in my albums.

A quick shout out to Jhhnn and ULMW. Thanks for all the time, as well as points, you put into your responses. I picked up tips and munchies for thought from both of you. And I can assure you ULMW, I'm a patient guy. I tend to run my indicas longer than most people, and all of them get a 6 month, mason jar cure as well.

Finally got my first Panama going.

I'm vegging this one outside til I free up some space in the flower tent.

Really growing fast now, nice fatty leaves too.

Though Panama stretches like a sat, I'd let her veg some. Some of my very tropical gals really can be grown 12/12 from seed, but I've found Panama doesn't always have great results in that condition..

That being said, adjust veg for your space requirements. Training and container restrictions are very effective way of managing sativa growth during early flower. I like fabric pots for self pruning the roots, bamboo stakes, maybe a net/screen, and definitely strong pinchs and good ties

Cannabiogens panama sun cured. Absolutely wonderful sativa. The first pic is my current panama female outdoors.

Love the look of the buds. Does the sun curing effect the high at all? I have to grow indoors but can cure the buds outside and wonder if that would add to the effect? The trippy aspect in particular is what I am after.

A bit closer:

Nice resin coverage, very easy to grow, yeilding great. Potent buds with long lasting introspective high, quite racy without a cure, much more enjoyable after 3-4 months of curing.Smell and taste are kinda lemony with a slight funk.

Hey Pepe,

your Panama looks delicious. But I think you got some bud rot on 2 of your headbuds (the ones that look dry, there's one in the foreground and one in the background).
Picture 3 definitly looks like bud rot to me, you should check that.

Thanks for your concerns mephorius,

But harvest is long done, i can affirm that's not bud rot...but definitely some flaws from the panama 70's, i ran other plants contening some of those genes outdoors and it happened too...did you ever run a tropical sativa indoor? often this happens, it seems like some part of the plant dry by the end of flowering, maybe a root thing...
