Thanks guys. I did scruff up the surface of the soil when I top dressed and I hand water whenever I feed (when I gave the epsom salt watering and fish/seaweed ) so they've had three watering from above since the top dress but the rest have been from the irrigation.

My ACT wasn't ready this morning mainly I think because my pump is weak and isnt agitating it properly so I hit em hard with fish/seaweed and liquid kelp because they needed a drink. ill buy another pump tonight and give them the ACT tomorrow.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were root bound I had them in 1.5 gallon pots as moms first and they were completely root bound in them before the transplant into these 3 gallon containers and there really wasn't THAT much more soil added around the rootball so I'm sure they've totally grown into all the soil.

Anyway tho thanks again ill hit em with the act tomorrow and might even top dress with fresh worm castings. ;)

Veg tent update:

The jackberry, deep chunk X sour diesel, and super skunk are all recovering well from their root prune and hackjob. They are the three plants in the back of these pics.

The front three plants are sweet tooth plant "A", sweet tooth plant "B", and AK 47.

So far they are the ones that have made the cut to be future moms. I havent smoked the bud yet as obviously I havent harvested yet but purely based on growing and cloning characteristics Ive made that decision. The blue widow was very hard to clone. I did get them to go but they were difficult so I tossed them.

To be honest... Im about ready to toss the sweet tooth plant "A" as well. Its looking great in the flowering tent... but sweet tooth plant "B" has caught my eye from the get go.

Its ALWAYS happy. It seems I cant make the plant unhappy ... whatever I do to it its always reaching for the sky with its leaves happy as can be.

Check out these photos ... I transplanted them into these airpots yesterday and topped them at the same time. To the left you see sweet tooth plant A ... to the right sweet tooth plant B. Plant A is droppy, stressed from being topped and transplanted. Plant B is reaching for the stars! Its just such a happy fucking plant I almost dont care what the smoke is like between the two ... Im about ready to call sweet tooth plant B my permenant mother, smoke untested, simply because its such a hardy plant!

Thanks for stoppin by immaculate .... those are super roots air pots. They airprune the roots so the plants don't become rootbound. They need more water because the allow more oxygen to the root zone but they are worth it if they do what they say!

Makes sense!

Could you enlighten me as to what exactly you did when you "massacred" those moms? Do I need to trim my moms down like that after I take my first cuttings?

Thanks.

I'm running a 250mh micro, my potential moms are just about rootbound (they are slightly less dense than the ones in your massacre shots), but I haven't taken first cuttings and I don't have room for bigger pots in my space.

Thanks everyone .

Sneaky and neo.... thanks for checking out my thread.

immaculate ...... the only reason to rootprune and prune up top as heavily as I did is if they are extremely rootbound.

I started these from seed and kept them in 5x5 pots until they showed preflowers . Some take longer then others to show sex so they are extremely stressed by that time from being so rootbound. That's the reason I pruned them like that.

I'm sure many won't agree with this... but I look at it like a stress test. I don't mind the plants getting droopy and bitching about it lol....but If they hermie or autoflower on me or take a turn for the worst in any other way from being rootbound then I don't want them as moms. I only want hardy, easy to care for plants in my mom tent.

This way they can grow a new fresh rootball and with those airpots they shouldn't get rootbound. I probably won't need to do it but once or twice a year from here on out. Also it allows you to put them in fresh soil but keep them in the same sized pot.

You can take cuttings at any time... it has no relation to the heavy pruning.

If your going to do this there's two rules to follow: 1) Always leave one node with a few small leaves on any branch you want to stay alive so photosynthesis can take place feeding the branch. 2) you should trim the rootball and canopy both. You wouldn't want to trim the rootball and leave a big canopy ...the plant wouldn't be able to sustain all those leaves with a small rootball.

Also I try not to trim off more then 50% of the rootball at a time. Although in this case you can see I did. I probably only left 30% and they recovered fine.

Hey OZZ, just something i've noticed myself..

For some reason i've never had a "rootbound plant" since I switched from amended soil mixes. Ever since I started using maxibloom, it has kept any size plant in any size container happy as can be. The plant I have in my SCROG right now was in a 1/2 gallon grow bag for 5 months.

Any ideas why that is? I suspect it has to do with the nutrient profile. Soil mixes become depleted of nutrients after a certain period of time?

That's my theory anyway!

Carry on!

Interesting. how often were you watering that plant while it was in that 1/2 gallon bag?

Your tents are looking great and quite productive too. What size are those air-pots you're using? How do you like them so far?
