Well shitballs.... literally. See this little fan controller? I had it covered up with duct tape because of those two little LEDs on it so I would not get low level light interference with her dark cycle. Two days ago I made some upgrades to the cab and forgot to reapply the tape. So for the last two days this girl has been getting hit with light during lights off. I just got done picking off about 20-30 ball sacks off her.

I’ve never had this happen before so I’m not sure what to do. Do I trash her and put a panama in her place and start over? Or do I just let her go another 5-6 weeks picking these things off as I go? Today is exactly three weeks into flowering.

Now that I’ve gotten rid of the controller and fixed the issue... will she flower normally or is it more of a thing that once she throws balls she will continue to do it?

I have since gotten completely rid of the fan controller and bought a new 4” AC infinity fan and scrubber. I’ve also ordered some solstrips. Using this fan and filter combo and relocating it outside the cabinet I can now free up space inside the cab and I’ll gain about 5” of verticale space. Ive got the fan dialed way down, it’s practically silent and pulls WAY more airflow than I had before. It also allowed me to get rid of the glass heat shield completely. I’m just not sure what to do with the girl now that she threw balls?

Beautiful setup OZZ.. Looks like you can sell these things they are so pretty!

Im interested in the difference you see in the filter being outside as oppose to inside..
Ill be following closely as this will help me a ton with room.

Always thought it was best to pull through the filter instead of pushing through the filter..

Tie a loose knot below the first node tip ie a thin wire cord and bend that little baby over....
Utilities every virticle centimeter like my old lady used to say...

Thanks for the input guys, I’ll just keep her going and pick the balls off as best I can then. She was never going to be used for breeding, she was always the “tester” plant before I get into my good genetics.

As far as pushing vs pulling through the filter, I believe it is best to pull, however this combo is so ridiculously oversized for my setup that it doesn’t matter much. Having the fan set on 3 (1-10 settings) pulls more air than the PC fan could ever do and is completely silent. At 5 it’s virtually undetectable with fantastic ventilation. Definitely loving the setup now. The solstrips are on their way too and when I swap this HLG board put for the solstrips the cabinet will be officially complete and I can get to growing.

Here she is at three weeks 12/12

Gracias mis amigos!

So far I’m *hoping* I might be in luck. I pulled off about 20-30 balls the first day... maybe 15 the second day when I fixed the light issue... the next day yesterday I only saw one single ball to pick off. Maybe now that the lighting issue is resolved she won’t produce balls anymore? I’ve never had this happen so it’s new to me.

Also... I need your guys input. These pics are at day 24 12/12. She’s starting to fatten up, usually about this time I like to start hitting them with the Neptune’s fish/seaweed, but If you look closely you can see the new growth with just a weeee bit of burnt tips. So I’m thinking the soil may be just boardering on too hot as it is.

Can you guys take a look and confirm this? That is tip burn from high nutes on those bud leaves isn’t it? If so I’ll hold off from adding any other nutes.

I, like you, found I can place my HPS/MH bulbs much closer to my plants than an LED. I typically try to maintain about 7-8” with incandescents and I’ve seen some LED manufacturers that recommend 20” as a safe distance.

That's what I found in my 22" tall micro cab, the LED's
were too intense at higher canopy, so I went back to the PLL.

150w HPS too hot if the cooltube fails.

Good thread

I've always wondered how well angled lighting would work in this situation. Since straight down is too intense, perhaps angling the lights from the corners and edges would work better?

As long as each light beam is traveling at least 10-12" before encountering the top of the plant... it should work well. Yes?

The balls will most likely stop forming...
I’ve had plants grow a few balls around week three of 12/12... I pick them off and 95% of the time they stop forming...!!!...

You said that u left the tape off the two little lights for two days... then you found the balls the next day ??? The only problem with this is that I think it takes about a week for the plant to actually grow the balls/male flowers after it gets stressed ...!!!...

I REALLY don’t think that the plant could stress out and then grow the balls that fast...!!!... I could be wrong but I don’t think so...

Could there also be something else causing the stress ???

Had a cabinet 9-10 years ago...used 2ft. 4 Tube Fluorescent Grow Light, 2 PC fans worked like a charm, growing only autos. No heat build up, no stressing plants.

Thanks DC! I’ve got solstrips that are supposed to arrive today and I’ve seen peeps get within a few inches of these, so I’m anxious to get them slapped in there!

Douglas ... thanks for stopping by. The problem I have with that is I don’t want to sacrifice the 10-12” of height to do that, angled or not. As mentioned, I’ve git solstrips arriving today and those seem to have a lot less headroom requirements so we will see how it goes once they get put int there

Hmmmm... thats very interesting, I suppose the LEDs could have been polluting the space before that time, but I thought I had them covered up. I’m not sure. Regardless that little controller is completely removed now since I added the larger fan/filter combo so should be good from here on out! I’m hoping! Unless the source of the stress is the HLG panel period... but lately she’s been praying to the light and looking happy so I think all is well in that department. This grow height isn’t a problem but on the next one Im going to want to be able to use as much of the space as possible.

What do you think of the leaflet tips? Does it look to you like the tiniest bit of tip burn? That’s what I think it is but I’d really like to hit her with some fish/seaweed at this point since we are just past week 3. I’d hate to add more nutes though if the soil itself is still a bit hot for her, it looks like tip burn to me, it’s extremely minor, but a sign that there’s plenty of nutes in the soil as is, or at least that’s how I’m interpreting it anyway.

Aridbud... thanks for chiming in, i think the solstrips I’m waiting for will solve much of my issues in this cab and I should be rocking and rolling after that.
