Tutorial Organics for Beginners

say burnone...

I'm using LC's mix #1

When you give those fert rates per cubic fool of soil mix. Is that referring to the everything you have mixed, (CSPM + perlite + worm castings)?? Then measure ferts in?

Thanks

Also,

I'm just putting that mix together for flower. I decided to use bloodmeal as a good nitrogen source and Indonesian bat guano as a P source, as well as kelp meal...
would these rates work...(per ft3 "soil mix")

blood meal 1/2 cup
IBG: 1/2 cup
kelp meal: 1/2 cup

Lime: 1 cup

watering with liquid K and EJ catalyst as directed.

Go back and read. If you change anything, you're experimenting.
Choose and follow a recipe exactly. These are all recipes I have tried and they ALWAYS work.
Read what I said about using a 3 quart saucepan for "parts".

Thanks Burn One, I spotted the males first (a couple weeks ago) and removed them. However today i noticed small ball sacks on the shoots below the top flower they are right along the female parts.(it was the small one i transplanted) I will take this as a hermaphrodite?

Either way, i quickly grabbed some needle nose scissors and carefully removed the male flowers next to the calyx's. Is this okay?

I noticed today as well they are both yellowing on there bottom set of leaves. I removed the two sets closest to the soil as to direct more focus on the buds above. They as well were yellowing heavily. I will go back and add the Fish Emulsions next watering. Thanks again.

Since i fed them yesterday i dampened them with a little distilled water to flush out any extra nutes. Hope that helps?!

Peace.

Keep an eye on that hermie! It may return. Watch them all if they are the same strain. Some strains hermie worse than others. Are they "female" seeds?
I'd hit 'em full strength with the nitrogen and seaweed one more time. Then go to your flowering nutes.

so what will happen if the mix dries out a little? i have about one cu. foot mix in a 18gal sterilite tub sitting... after sleeping all day from a couple of all nighters, when i woke up the top layer had slightly dried out. i quickly sprayed the top with some distilled water and mixed it up a good time to make sure that was all that had dried out. also, when i initially wet the mix up with the Liquid Karma, i only used a little less than a gallon of the mix (about 3/4 gallon)... i used two tubs and poured a little in, watered lightly, mixed well, then dumped more in... so on and so fourth... was that amount of water enough? the mix feels very lightly damp and somewhat cold after 4 days... thanks

edit: when adding water to the mix to prevent it from drying out, should this be just plain old water or water with the liquid karma? thanks again

shouldn't be a problem. Just re-hydrate the soil as you did, the micro's will recolonize the dry soil or re-germinate and began growth (reproduction) again. Keep the soil mix around room temp or growth of your micro's will be slowed.

thanks MH... so when the soil dries out, the micro's basically die? currently my mix is in the bathroom but i'm thinking it may be a bit too cold in there, maybe i should move to my room?

edit: the temps in there are currently around 67-69 degrees F... but it is 4:45AM.... i'm sure it will warm up after the sun comes up

Thanks again Burn1, I didn't know that certain strains did that. :bashhead: Could street light have an effect?
(I know they are HPS, but could a reflection cause the same effect?)

akuira- I have a heavy mix I use for my citrus plants and i keep it moist with Liquid Karma as well as BlackStrap Molasses, mixed into plain water. It feeds the micros and helps every thing balance out.

However, might i reiderate(stoned spelling) what burn one had said time and time again... "1 cup powderized dolomite lime per cubic foot!"
It just seals the deal and makes everything come together in a more harmonious way, not to mention it keeps pH out of your concern.

Peace. :joint:

Dude, let me say this one more time... You don't have to worry about pH in organic growing. I've already said it a hundred times in this thread alone. Get your mix right and pH is a non issue. That's why LC's Mix is so effective.
Well B1 I'm not tryin ta push yer buttons here, but if you don't have enough humus or humic acid in yer soil you very well -do- have ta worry about yer PH. I'm not new ta organics, I know very well how it works. I think my post's over the last 4 years on this board proves that. Jus tryin ta be logical about this. If yuv tested it ( with coco ) ta know, that's fine, jus say so. But you of all people should know where I'm comin from about the point I'm making. Without enough humus you have no "organics" and no buffer. Saying it doesn't make it true, I jus think it's important to have been tested. It's nothing to get upset about. Don't ferget my friend, folks are learning from this conversation along the way. So no harm there eh?..... Retawgwob, Liquid Karma and sugar are't goanna balance anything out. It's the bloodmeal, bonemeal, kelp, guano, worm castings etc that balance the diet for the subculter and the plant. You can't live on Red Bull and candy can ya? no, you can't, you need a balanced diet ta stay healthy. So does yer microherd and plants.... Keep in mind, you can over do it with anything if you keep applying it to the soil. It builds up easily in heavy soil ( btw, air is very important for healthy micro critters and roots! ), esp with smaller plants or plants that aren't agressively feeding. A good example would be a veggin plant vs a flowering plant. Veggin plants will eat some, but when a ( pot ) plant flowers it will use much more water and nutes because of the high transpiration cycle the plant goes threw in order to build bud mass..... Btw, after rereading yer post with the lil laughing guys in the part about the lime, I get the feelin yer bein passive agressive and tryin ta start shit. If this is yer goal, I want no part of it. I am not here for those kind of childish games. Life's to short fer that. I'm here ta learn and to tryin an teach folks what I know about growing, and organics. So lets jus stick to the program for the good of everyone! Take care... BC

B.C.- my mistake on stateing that the LK & BSM would "...balance every thing out." No harm intended, point taken. Could you put the right amount of nutes in for a specific veg stage to where you would not need feed during the veg and only the right nutes would be there during flower other than ones added? (For example i notice N is still needed into flowering but not as much further into flowering.) And as for the two guys laughing around the quote about the lime, i'm not to sure how you got that but it was not directed at you by any means. Initially i read this thread page-by-page and noticed that this had been stated my Burn1 and others more than once and even when i had discussed issues of soil with him he would always take the time to remind me. I will have not part in any sort of shinanagins. My motives are straight forward and i wish you not ASS-U-ME other wise.

Peace. :joint:

If you're using FFOF, you need more humus. You need about 20% worm castings in any soil mix.
LK isn't gonna get it. There is a product called Liquid Humus that may work. But I go for "simple" and use worm castings.
This thread provides information for beginners. IMO beginners should start with a proven method and not experiment.

Word. Unknowingly when i mixed my soil using FFOF i added EWC and a little extra perlite. (About 20% EWC and then leveled out the perlite to about 30% of the whole mix.) I always enjoy knowing that an idea or an instinct poves correct... or at least on the right path.

However, if i wanted to use LC's mix #1 with Nute Recipe #5 are there any dry ferts i could add to the soil as well as the liquid ferts for feeding?

How can you tell the level oh humus in a soil?

^^^ That is something that comes with experience. This is a BEGINNERS thread. Those are recipes that are guaranteed to work if used as directed. When you get more experienced and learn how to "read" your plants and learn what they need, you can just feed them what they want. That's why I use guano teas. I can adjust the dose to feed them correctly. Not for beginners.

Sounds Good To Me

Word. Appreciate it. Essential you are saying, "Stick to the recipe" as i some what thought you might. After thinking about it all day in class it just sounded like a question i could make mistakes with very easily.

That being said, the more experience i gain i will one day hope to try such recomended method such as guano teas. Thanks again.

Peace.

P.S... This is that smaller plant i transplanted and was droopy and had the hermy problem.

Needs N?

Drooping?

Cannabis likes dry soil. Your soil still looks too wet to me. It could use some N and some potassium.

which would you suggest first? let the soil dry out or apply the fish emulsion and maxi crop.

Where would i get the potassium? (would that be in the MaxiCrop or EJ Bloom?)

Again, Thanks!

Peace.

Let it dry out first. If you are around the plant all day, check it every hour or so and wait until it starts wilting before you wet it again. Look carefully at the soil. Stick your finger into the soil to see how it feels. That will help you know when to water.
Maxicrop has potassium. It's also full of micro and macro nutes.

N = Nitrogen
P = Phosphorous
K = Poatssium

You're overloving your plant and overthinking all this about soil. You need to do what Burn1 says because it'll work. Make your soil mix up as per the recipe. Keep it simple. Order the things you don't have, but need.

These plants have been, and will be grown as organic as most anyones out there. So far anyway. This plant and her 2 sisters have had nothing but water, or water with LK, or water with LK and molasses. Everything else came from the soil mix.

This plants big sister has grown 9+ inches in just 3 days in the same soil, same watering regime.

BTW: this plant has not been watered at all since transplant last Friday AM. 6 days. I'll water it in the AM with LK and molasses.

DON'T OVERWATER your plants. It's a common new grower error. Learn to lift your pot to see how dry it is. That is the best, most reliable way of knowing when pots are drying out...IMHO anyway.

Toodles

Day 16 of flower.
