Tutorial Organics for Beginners

I would only use vermiculite if water use is an issue re: excessive transpiration or water evaporation from high heat. That's me though :) Look no further than my location for any reasoning why.

Okay thanks so much. I think what I will do is just grab a tote, fill it up like 1/2 bag at a time of the peat, lava rocks, and
Composts. Oh! And oyster shell that I have instead of Dolo, same amount would you happen to know? Thanks again!:tiphat:

Hey guys,

So I am making the jump from soilless+ferts to a soil mix, as I inhereted a rather large new grow and simplicity is what I am shooting for.

So what I want to do is the LC#1 with the first nute recipe.

Is it okay for me to use straight coco with those nutes? I have a personal thing against peat. Is there anything else I should add or tweak with this recipe?

5 parts Coir
3 parts perlite
2 parts fresh quality worm castings

+

1/2 cup blood meal per cf
1 cup of bone meal per cf
1/2 cup of kelp meal per cf
1/2 cup of greensand per cf
1 cup of dolomite per cf

cook it for 2 weeks and put month old plants in there, veg them for a month, then flower them out?

Is there anything wrong with this method, or when using coir should I up the nutes a little so they don't run out.

Pardon all the questions, I never intended to become a ganja grower, it just kinda happened that way :)

Just found this thread and it is really interesting for me as i am setting up a tent and in the need of choosing fertilizers/way to grow. Up untill now i have only used one way of growing as i have been tought by someone to do it that way and it allways gave me good results but this was with chemical fertilizers. So after reading about organics i said to myself that i might as well try it out. I am from Spain and I am having a really hard time finding the products you are listing for LC’s Soiless Mix #1: and the watering RECIPE #3 .From what i undersand those are all the ingridients i will be needing from germinating to end of flowering.
Would anyone be so kind to share with me a website where i can get all this ingridients here in spain?
Also i will be growing in 6l pots and i am having a really hard time figuring out how much of each product i should be getting.
thanck you in advance

Couldn't say vitamin, though I think it's unlikely to be an issue. Haven't swapped them one for one myself.

Bear, you may want to start organically as a small trial. I assume from your post more than just personal is riding on this. I believe coir can be subbed for peat without issue, perhaps someone with experience can chime in.

Greensand is unlikely to be of much benefit unless you plan on recycling. Very little potassium is available initially and breakdown is slow re: years.

50/50 castings/compost for the humus portion would be preferable.

Rasta, might be easier to start in the other direction. Figure out what's available and build from there.

thanks for your input. that said, I am okay with the risk, plus the property already has a cement mixer on it haha. I'll report back. I guess I'll just have to try it and see. I want things running in rotation though, so an add water is practical and not too complicated.

i am having a hard time figuring out how the recepies work. what does 5 parts stand for if i need a total of 200l of soil to fill my pots? how is this caluclated? soryy it might be a really stupid question for you guys

From what i understand it should be like this with 6l pots:

1 part of 6l = 0.6l

so the recepie would be

5 part = 3l of Canadian Sphagnum Peat
3 part = 1.8l of perlite
2 part = 1.2l of worm castings
2 tablespoon x 3.8l of dolomite lime

problem is how do i know how much dolomite i have to put in 6l pot? since a table spoon of dolomite lime could be any weight.. i dont understand waht a table spoon is since everything has its specific weight. Dolomite could weight 1g per table spoon or 500kg per table spoon and that would make a massive difference to the final product.

so in total i will be needing 200l of soil to fill all my pots.

5 part = 100l of Canadian Sphagnum Peat
3 part = 60l of perlite
2 part = 40 of worm castings
52 tablespoon of dolomite lime.

I am now checking on amazon to buy the dolomite lime...There is only 4 pound bags...52 tablespoons equals to how many pounds?

if the whole product is 200l and we need 10 parts to make a whole then surely one part would be 20l

My mistake, I wrote that before seeing the 10 parts.

Cup and tablespoons aren't that accurate but then neither are these recipes or this style of growing. I'd weigh it up for you but everything for soil mixing is at another spot.

The internet tells me dolomite weighs 42 grams per tbsp. If be true, that 4lb bag is perfect.

you are only using half the lime you need, 2tbs per gal, you would need 104 tbs, not 52. lime is for the TOTAL mix, not just the soil part, thats why its listed after the first part of the mix, and has mix in quotes. Make sure you get the right lime too.

20l per part for you, so...

100L of peat
60L perlite
40L emc

1.5L lime(2tbs per gallon of 'mix', 200L=52gal, so 104tbs of lime = 1.5L)

just to add, been using this thread as my base for the last handful of years, organics for life. I use for the most part: LC's Soiless Mix #2 (with some kelp meal and green sand) along with Recipe #3(guanno tea) but I do add/substitute some things now...

i think i will have to give up with this because the prices of ProMix HP here in europe is crazy... 200 euro for 3.8 cu ft

is there a organics recepie post for european growers?

Yes, though some of the recipes require letting the mix sit outside for awhile, I am not using one of those at this time. If you stick to the recipe, you should be just fine. Ide say do that for a 2 or 3 rounds or so before you start replacing or adding different things. Use this guide as a base, that you can always go back to when/if you have a problem.

I am indoor at this time, and using 10 gal pots, under a 1000w and scroged.

Should be able to do that, I have not made the switch or tried coco/coir yet, but I plan to give it a go in the next 6 months.

It says in the first post "5 parts Canadian Sphagnum Peat or Coir or Pro-Moss" so yeah, you should be able to use peat/coir/pro-moss just like it says.

Just remember, if you stick to what it says, you will be fine, if you start changing things around and it does not work out for you, remember you can always go back to the list. IMO its a foolproof way to go about organics while your learning it.

problem is that most of the ingredients for this recepies are for products taht do not exist here in europe so i guess i have to replace them somehow... if i order from the USA there is a big chance that the products will be detained at the customs for quite a long time... unless here there is some european grower that knows where to get this ingridients
