I read this thread a while back but can't remember if I saw anything on it, but was wondering when males usually start dropping pollen. I have a othaze that I'm just starting to flower. I always thought it was a lady but I guess she's a he. I still would like to collect and store pollen though.

thx to all for the great answers and positive feedback
6 reg oth are sprouting right now:biggrin:

dubi they are from 11/15 so they should be purple and green haze inbreed and some open pollinated?

is there a chance to find offsprings from this mother?
...and even a very pale/ yellowish low yielding pheno that looks very much like old colombian gold pics,...

and my last question to dubi
are you still working on this cross?

I'm also planning a cross between the Zamaldelica elite Zamal dominant pheno and selected Haze parental plants for the end of the year :D

thx willi

Thanks man, I figured that much. I was just more so worried as to how long it would take before it all happened. I was dreading the thought of waiting weeks upon weeks for some pollen but I got more than plenty collected and stored

It only takes like 3 weeks to start producing pollen sometimes 4 weeks of flowering For pure sativa like these

Anyone that can verify this? I have been wondering how long to get some male pollen going from the Purple Haze if I find a male.

Collecting male pollen

Collecting male pollen

Hope this helps, there have been a few questions about collecting pollen.

Depending on when you start counting, from the first appearance of male fowers, it might take 4 - 6 weeks to get a small amount of pollen from a haze like Punto Rojo, when using fresh pollen. You only need a bit of pollen to dust an entire plant. Keep some fresh pollen until you're sure the female is making seeds. You'll see the white female pistils fade and die after they have been seeded. This should occur within several days after receiving male pollen.

If you are collecting pollen and storing it in the freezer for future, keep collecting pollen every two weeks until your glass vile is full. That might take 7 - 9 weeks from the first male flowers. I save pollen, from small but mature plants.

Pollinate a Haze maybe 8 weeks before you plan to harvest the female flowers for smoking - if you are only seeding a few lower female branches. The female plant - even the unseeded flowers - will lose vigor and the plant will often fade after pollination even of a few lower branches.

early flowering maybe ~ 6 weeks

later flowering maybe ~ 10 weeks

Tools of the trade for collecting male pollen.

1) Punto Rojo Colombian male small, but mature in vegetation and flower.
2) dinner plate or plate glass
3) course tea screen to separate pollen from the male flowers, pollen should be clean and free from debris.
4) artist paint brush to move the pollen and paper to scrap the pollen around from plate into the vile.
5) photograph or paper to collect the pollen also doubles as a paper tunnel
6) small glass vial to store the pollen in the freezer. Pollen should be very clean and free of any debris before it is frozen. I allow the pollen to sit on the glass dry for two weeks before freezing. Its typically very low humidity in Colorado .
7) If you're using fresh pollen there's not as much concern about - dry and clean.
8) Properly frozen pollen should stay viable for a few years.

Clean everything with rubbing alcohol. Keep your tools clean and dry. Allow the pollen on the plate / to dry for ~ 2 weeks before storing it in the freezer. Remove the pollen you need, but don't allow the entire frozen vial to defrost.

Males produce varying amount of pollen.
This Destroyer male produced a lot of pollen, after 8 - 10 weeks.

This Highland Mexican male not so much.

I use foil paper. Cut small squares like 3x3 inch and collect pollen from open flowers then close it by folding in half and folding the edges in to keep pollen from escaping.

What light cycle are you on 12/12 or 11/13? Think Dubi said after a few weeks you should switch to 11/13 and then it should start pushing pistols! Can some one verify I too have the same question for the Phaze!

Hi youngbuck1986,

It depends a lot on your growing conditions and on the maturity of the Haze plants you are about to flower.
A young pure Haze male grown from seed will produce flowers slowly (in around 5-6 weeks of flowering) , while an old matured Haze male clone will react faster to flowering.

Pure Haze is a very tropical sativa and usually starts to flower with slightly shorter photoperiods than 12/12.
Haze males typically open their flowers in the 3rd week of October at my latitude (37ºN), the old Haze clones open their flowers relatively fast indoors (after around 4 weeks of flowering, more or less),
much faster than the females, which usually need at least 6-8 weeks to start the flowering indoors.

Hope it helps.

Hi chilliwilli,

If the packing date is from 11/15 then your Oldtimer's Haze seeds come from the latest reproduction made past year. This release contains seeds from all the phenos, green ones, purple ones, purple/green and yellowish ones.

I would like to make another Zamal x Haze hybrid, probably with our best Zamaldelicas or with the new purple Zamal, but it won't happen shortly as we worked a lot with Hazes and Zamaldelica in the past 2 years and we are busy right now with other projects.

Thanks for your interest. Good luck!

You should be able to lower your day to 11 hours with no problems. It seems to be more effective for flowering induction for me than 12/12. At least in terms of how fast plants respond and how fast they mature.

With dubi kind of spelled it out. These are very long flowering tropical sativas that in many cases won't go into flowering until you drop below 12/12. You might like the results.
good luck

do the 7 oldtimer's haze freebies option that come with each > 100 euro purchase also come from this same mix?
