Newest growth looks unburnt.

Second newest looks like the tips are a bit yellow...

Looks good.

First pic looks like you already snagged a tester...

Glad the solution seems to be stabilizing... you are probably right about the FNB residue, and just a general need for whatever was in the PPK to reestablish equilibrium...

hey! welcome to the wonderful world of nutrient solution stability. the damage is from before you switched. damaged leaves never recover. the best thing to do is pop them off. it makes it easier to see any new damage. all the spotting, discoloration, and necrosis is from ph problems.

well, you don't have long now. from my limited experience with sativas it seems like they may not be a good choice for a tight space. why did you choose the arjan's haze?

my sweet tooth is a great overall painkiller and stress reliever. i make hash from the pistils that stick to the glove when trimming and dry electrostatic kif from the trim itself. i think i've got a 100x pic of the dry somewhere. this shit is knockdown. pain and tension roll off in waves.

the first pic is the electrostatic kif. not as good as bubble but close. the second one is a trich shot of the swt #4
3 and 4 are trich shots of an isis plant i grew out last year. a lanky 11 week sativa. low yielder, i think i got 7 zips. very up, soaring type high with minimum painkilling ability.

And man do I appreciate it.
Today's readings (EC/PH):
date___ppk_______bulk
0929 1.5/5.6 - 1.4/5.2
0928 1.5/5.8 - 1.5/5.3
0927 1.5/5.6 - 1.5/5.5 - top up about 12 liters
0926 1.4/5.8 - 1.5/5.4
0925 1.4/5.8 - 1.5/5.3 - pkk EC definitely dropping slowly
0924 1.5/5.8 - 1.5/5.3 - both 1.5ec low estimate 1.45
0923 1.5/5.4 - 1.5/5.4 - after swap to 1.5

I've always wanted to grow a sativa and the greenhouse description seemed to fit. I have a 70 day(!) old cutting from this plant thats not more than 4" tall. Bonsai cuttings?

Anyway I'm trying to decide what to plant next. A lot depends on the smoke I get from the Bitch. I might try another AH3 seed to see if there are different phenos or the cutting or both. Not much info available elsewhere about these that I can find.

I have these seeds(all femmed)
3 x AH3
1 x Barney's Vanilla Kush
1 x Barney's Pineapplechunk
1 x Barney's Flower Power
1 x R. Privada Cole Train
50 x Bagseeds from run 1

I think the biggest issue with the AH3 is controlling stretch. I can do that with defoliation, light color and nutes, right?

Just took my first sample:)...smoke report in a few days!

I'd change the word from 'control' to 'influence'. You can do some stuff, but you can't turn a leggy Bitch into portly indica.

None of the classic reasons to mono-crop really apply to you... I mean, there's something to be said about really getting to know your girl and maximizing her genetic potential... but if you're happy with the novelty of new experience, why not run another genetic?

If you have a network of friends with whom you could trade finished product, you could run the A. Haze again, get her dialed and smoke some other genetics to see what you might want to put into the chamber for round four... But if you want to keep it chill and low key, maybe you should roll the dice and pop another few seeds.

Or... is it time to expand your garden? Ut-oh... now that just makes sense. Modular Scrog every seed you got into a perpetual with a forest of bonsai moms? Now That Just Makes Sense.

Plenty of craziness bound to follow from that... think of the excitement the genetics will bring back to your life now that the mechanics of the PPK and Jacks has made cultivation into a on step process: fill the nutes...

Then there's bonsai breeding and all kinds of good stuff to keep you occupied in the long winters of the northern-northern hemisphere.

only here bro. There are only 2 people in the world who know I grow and one of them has never seen it.

never can expand. The poor misguided person who married me low those many years ago would do something dastardly late one night and it would be bad...very very bad.

Then there's bonsai breeding and all kinds of good stuff to keep you occupied in the long winters of the northern-northern hemisphere.
Thats what the NHL is for...jeesh.

So the conundrum remains...

... yeah... lonely world for my girls too. I kinda feel like a psycho-abductor of beautiful little girls that I hole up in my closet just for myself and they never get to meet anyone or socialize or anything like that. How are they supposed to grow up with a balanced personality?

God, what if they're like home-school kids?

Okay, maybe that's not how I really feel. I mean, I knew a home school kid who wasn't a total freak once...

Only one person knows in my world. I know, I know... its one too many, but what the hell... If that person rats me out, my world is over anyway.

Thats what the NHL is for...jeesh.

Oh... yeah.

"Go TML!"

I get it.

day66...................................day73

Not much to say about the overall pic...the buds do look bigger though.

Up close most of them look great:
day62...................................day73

others

But a some of the top buds are foxtailing:

Might be from the nute imbalance swings over the last 3 weeks. Temps are fine 20-24degC (68-74degF).

I have a Eyeclops Bionicam on order arriving anytime so I will finally be able to get good pics of trichs. I hate waiting.

Smoke report; I let the sample dry for 2 days then did my standard test routine. 1st smoke of the day and 3 hits from a dube. Mild minty flavour of fresh fast dried herb. High was very cerebral and quick starting. Lasted about an hour. Very pleased.

Ph has been steadily dropping, with EC stable:
Today's readings (EC/PH):
date___ppk_______bulk
1003 1.5/5.2 - 1.5/5.2 - after Ph pen calibrated.
1002 1.5/5.3 - 1.5/5.2
1001 1.5/5.4 - 1.4/5.2
0930 1.5/5.5 - 1.4/5.2
0928 1.5/5.8 - 1.5/5.3
0927 1.5/5.6 - 1.5/5.5 - top up about 12 liters
0926 1.4/5.8 - 1.5/5.4
0925 1.4/5.8 - 1.5/5.3 - pkk EC definitely dropping slowly
0924 1.5/5.8 - 1.5/5.3 - both 1.5ec low estimate 1.45
0923 1.5/5.4 - 1.5/5.4 - after swap to 1.5
I hope it just contamination from the FNB I was using.

Thanks for stopping by,

Looking good all the way through.

The first two pics set up a nice comparison that I was able to see, and CLEARLY show significant bud development. Good pics.

Personally, I like foxtails.

I've been places where folks thought they weren't cool, and I been in a different town the next week where some super tailed out NL was 'the best bud in the world'.

They are characteristic of lots of the pure sativa grows I've lurked here...

I am a bit confused about the Bulk Reservoir pH levels dropping. I could interpret the PPK levels as the system is establishing a new equilibrium with Jacks, and that it is more directly reflecting the pH of the bulk, but a bulk pH drop suggests (to me) maybe some leeching of the FNB skuzz or some kind of metabolic process happening in there... which is silly for a bulk tank unless it is severely populated with microbes.

If I were in your shoes, I'd run my bulk with a little higher pH (with whatever you have lying around) and hope that the PPK catches up.

I look forward to the new technology pics... I'm curious to see what the girls are really doing up close and personal. Guessing from today, how much longer do you think they'll run?

In your smoke report, you didn't mention any anxiety attached to the cerebral influence. Sounds like some goodness to me...

good morning!

well, it is changing really fast now. it might actually finish in 11 weeks.

ph looks great for this late in flower. my ph tends to drop slowly in flower and rise slowly in veg.

i know you are thinking about adding ph up but don't do it, you're fine.

you must be topping the bulk tank frequently.

next time we can eliminate the burn and spotting. have you noticed any more spotting after switching to jack's?

you should rebuild to include a tail piece. what is your maximum container height again?

hey, 5.2-5.4 is where it mixes in ro water. don't touch it! it's actually in a better range than 5.8.

Hi IF,

The PH has me puzzled too. And I'm not going to do much about it because of the FNB contamination. Both tanks are the dark blue rubbermaid 15 lt containers and are not light tight. I may very well have colonies of microbes and I know the springtails are still there. I am also thinking about a straight RO flush before the chop.

Based on the sample, I could chop anytime and be satisfied but want to wait for the new camera. I know this plant will be way superior to any available locally in my very limited circle of friends.

I thought foxtails were a bad thing and indicative of heat stress. Thanks for letting me know. I had that problem way back in the days of RDWC, HPS and summer temps.

The high I got (and as I write this!) is/was very pleasant and relaxing. Thats why I do the 3 hit test. If I catch a buzz with only 3 hits its gotta be good smoke. No anxiety at all, but I live in paradise so that may have something to do with it.:) And I can tell you that with smoking almost a half joint it just gets better and more intense.

I'm about to bug you for an update in your thread,

Not at all, maybe once a week.

very hard to tell its only been 10 days or so. I'm very interested to see the rootball/rez roots and test the coco.

I'm thinking about it and total assembled ppk height is 13".

have a good one,

hi, i mix 5.3-5.4 and it stays like this until it goes into the floor part of the system (in flower). once there it usually runs about 5.6-5.7 in all reservoirs until right before finish. then the ph of the individual res that's about to finish will go down to 5.0-5.2. this is maybe the last week or ten days or so.

i don't know for sure what causes it but i think it has to do with selective uptake as the plant finishes.

doesn't seem to hurt anything so i don't worry about it.

Hi D9,,

Well thats certainly good news because it seems to be the way mine is working out. I've decided to run my bonsai cutting for the next run. I want to see the Jacks through a whole cycle and the smoke from the sample was awesome.

Wondering whether I should start a new thread for run 3 or just keep on with this one. I dont suppose it matters much.

Still waiting for the eyeclops gadget.

Like the idea of you running the Haze again. My tendency has always been to find a strain that I can work with (i.e. has grow characteristics that are suitable for my environment/space, with finished quality that meet my needs), and then work with it.

Are you considering modification your cab (ease of access) or PPK set up (media sump?)... or will all those decisions come post chop when you are cleaning up?

Looking forward to see this run finish up, but equally interested in what comes next.

I'm not sure this is my ideal pheno what with the stretch and possible sensitivity to nutes, not to mention 11 weeks flower. The real reason is the quality of the smoke and the fact I have 1 cutting taken July 21 that is only 4" tall. I want to see her finish.

Of course....I'm a member of the International Tinkerers Association. (you're never at the meetings)

I am dying to see the rootball and wicks. I appear to have had success with microfiber so switching to media wicks is not a priority. What I am considering;

1. shelf on rollers so I can get at the back. This is tricky because of space in front of the cab.
2. pulse watering system. Its tough to find a small enough pump. So far I can get a 40 gph pump coupled with a timer capable of 1 minute cycles. Some elementary math shows 1 pump cycle supplies 2.5 liters which seems a bit excessive. I know I could put a manual (I hate that word) system in but I know I'd forget.
3. growing 2 plants at once. For variety and to shorten the search for "my" perfect pheno. Besides I want some that indica couchlock goodness.
4. eliminating my veg section to increase flowering side. I use it very infrequently and using femmed seeds precludes the need for mothers.
5. computer monitoring and reporting system. I'm a computer jock by trade this would be very cool.
6. Really looking forward to killing off those bucking fugs.
7. I'll think of something...

I dug up my son's cheapo microscope and got a look at some trichs. About 80% cloudy, 15% clear and 5% amber. She is ripening unevenly though. Lower buds could get the chop today but the tops dont look close. I think I have to chop by this Friday because of timing difficulties in the next 2 weeks. Its also the end of week 11 which is right where greenhouseseeds said it would be. No matter what, I'm going to end up with some great smoke.:)

I'm glad to see things working well for you, despite your best efforts...LOL

Number Five is where it's at... Data collection and analysis. Speculation. Hypothesis.

Clearly, the biggest flaw in the PPK is how easy and forgiving it is. You know this translates into boredom.

Shiney things with circuit boards are not boring. No sir.

That's what we need to introduce. More circuit boards.

I mean, they won't change the grow, but each little piece of tech might short-circuit, or become misaligned, modified or even upgraded.

Yup. Computer interference is a great work around for the PPK's design flaws.
