Here is an article from a Tucson sorta underground newspaper. It is about industrial hemp in the Imperial valley. It is pretty much a undesirable location to live fortunes have been made here for century now. The farmers been bought have consolidated farms into 1 huge commercial operation. Culminating in huge corporate operations. Truth be known the lettuce they eat on thanksgiving in Maine or New York came from the imperial valley. I have extensive family that have been in agriculture in generations. One part of the Family is the major of stock in the family corporate farm in Imperial valley. I am standing outside as I am the undesirable someone in the family has to have that occupation. What I was wanting to inform is the travel of the pollen of Hemp it is a dust recorded federally as a mold on NOAA charts. Industrial has huge amounts of pollen it can be a health hazard if left to dry in the field such as feed corn or cotton. The winds blow through the Mojave Valley carry this pollen primarily up the eastern of the Sierras. This pollen will stick to anything so if one is working on outside grows need to be aware. I am of the belief that it is possible to get back to where America is the largest producer of hem in the world as we were at the 1900 century turn. This will decimate the illegal grows and their seed stock if not prepared.

Water woes (limited availability) as well, if hemp grows.

Water is not a problem in the Imperial valley it is sold to the highest bidder. Cotton has been going down and corn that was going for bio fuel is so far down they are closing processing plants temporally because the cheap cost of fuel. So in the imperial valley water is not an issue. It you follow pork bellies or Beef futures you will see pork out sold beef last year for the first time. The demand for Hay & Alfalfa is diminishing so Farmers in the Imperial valley do need another crop WATER THERE IS NOT AN ISSUE!

Excerpt from The Cannabist:

"Hemp is pollinated primarily by wind. Hermann said most pollen travels about 100 yards. But depending on the weight and size of pollen and other natural conditions, wind-borne pollen can travel for miles, up to 2,000 miles away from the source. Hermann states, if the wind blow towards the marijuana plants, the hemp pollen will find the plants because the male pollen wants to pollinate the females. This is Cannabis Sex 101.

Bees can also pollinate hemp. Bees travel up to 3 miles from the hive.

Another factor is the hemp plants’ growing season. Hermann says “hemp has an indeterminate growth, some plants will be in full seed set while others are just flowering. Other nearby crops maybe finished pollinating and the hemp crop still had pollen. If bees are hungry they will find both cannabis plants.”

What is the solution to what Hermann calls a “natural cannabis cultural clash”? Basically, grow marijuana 10 miles or more away from hemp. Hermann clarifies, indoor grows with air filters and environmental controls can be effective, and pretty high tech to protect from pollination. Ultimately there remains a risk, this is cannabis plant sex we’re talking about! XO"

*******************************************************************

Unless you are in an area of heavy agriculture, like Casa Grande, Maricopa, Yuma, etc and the day comes that hemp farms start popping up, you needn't worry. At that point you should have a remote grow that is at least 10 miles away. Better yet, don't be within 25 miles of any hemp operation.

It's not just how far pollen can travel but also how viable is it and for how long. In nice 100 degree Fahrenheit Arizona weather I think the pollen's fertility clock is limited even more than in temperate areas like Canada.

While I agree with the most part I would think that the winds in the desert have great thermals and more faster harder constant winds carry particles to jet stream have been my experience. The best part is think about where your at. I have heard here in Tucson the Univ of Ariz college of Agriculture (1st nationally in arid climate farming)) )is really looking into this. However the Dean of this college just told a legislative subcommittee that it is possible to genetically produce this thus helping AZDHS in the ability to monitor and supply Medical Pot. Believe it or not it is up to you but chose your spot wisely

Just a thought if this come to fruitarian just think of what a seed supply would be worth on the black market? There are always new market blossom from stupid monopolistic narcissistic government laws protecting those that exploit.

Madjag,
You know it's getting to be where a honest decent underground farmer cant get a break anymore. I have several family on farm rom El Paso Del Norte lol to San Diego lots around Imperil Valley. It was quite common back in the day to get auto flowering potted about 2 months take them to the corn fields stager your plants of 40 to 60 plants barely noticeable to 3/4 plants take care of them on the irrigation. It is kind of nice to just park along the highway go back and tend to irrigation chores and a little gardening. I have trichomes had family that did this some cousins did very well going to the Cal market. I believe that Cannabis grown below the 23 deg lat and in the desert heat develops a unique tip on the resulting more potent I had some from Oildale by Bakersfield It was like hash and stayed sticky for 6 months. Industrial may be the doom to some Where's Wille when you need him.

Did you ever thin of putting together a urban agriculture's list of items needed to go for a 9 month Journey. Not necessarily scouting location of set up and execution or irrigation systems, camp locations . Thinking just a list of supplies needed environment specific. Stuff like waxed leather/canvas or nylon or both? fuel needed water purify for treat or boil? Learn the fantastic variety of dehydrated foods (best resource LDS books on storage of food) Saws camps 1 or more 1st and secondary stashes of supplies (very good to do) personal hygiene for your lady visitors and really the environment Even my mule farted for defense speaking of that I wont go there I feel secure and will attest those in the area are safe and secure as well free to come and go depend on your knowledge. To start the list
1- 3 minimum unscented tampon's more is better great filters absorbing bandages tubes
2- magnesium bar
3- flints
4-4ott steelwool & 1 ott filters sanding
5-fuel I would still go with the white gas/unleaded MSR rocks I still have 3 Coleman peak1 single mantle lanterns I usually took about 2 dozen if the small pint for a 1/2 season
6- northern lights candle and lanterns
7- tools that another whole page there well book
8 -carry water storage of water
sort of a Abbie Hoffmans Steal this book I still have a copy of that around here some where. Time for roll another one just like the other one cadence for the digging chores lol

Dodge The Bullet

As a bit of cultural explanation to those of you from other countries, the saying, the term, “I dodged a bullet” refers to remarkably cheating pain or avoiding death at a given moment. It’s a confirmation of both extraordinary luck and a bad fate seemingly denied.
I dodged that bullet, too, but that’s another story……

I loved this story, Madjag. Like all your stories, it rings true and brings back some great memories. Going about my day to day business, I rarely think about some of the shit I used to do when I was young, reckless, and bullet proof.

Somehow, I always felt like I was in a movie. And not just in a movie, but the star of the fucking movie. As we all know, the star runs into his share of bad luck and close calls, but in the end, the star is going to prevail and make out like a bandit and get the pretty girl to boot. And damned if that is not just about how my life has gone.

I never ran any ganja out of Montego Bay airport, but I have been in and out of the airport numerous times. I used to take the small plane out of Montego Bay airport to the little airport in Negril all the time. Once when I was in a hurry, I chartered a small plane to fly me from Negril to Mobay.

It was just the pilot and I in a tiny plane. The approach to the Mobay airport was strange in that you had this huge landing strip and this tiny little airplane that could land in a fraction of the space. But it was a nice view of the airport and the water around it from the copilot seat.

On my way out of the Island, I got patted down at the airport and they found a huge wad of hundred dollar bills in the inside pocket of the light leather jacket I was wearing. After checking out the wad and talking to the head man, they gave it back to me and let me go about my business.

On the way to Bolivia one time, I flew out of the Kingston airport. I had a lot of cash in an elastic money belt under my clothes. The Bolivian woman I was escorting and I made it through all the checks and were walking down the hallway to board our plane when a cop stopped us and had us put our arms over our head while he patted us down. I don't know how he did not feel the money belt, but he didn't and just let us go on to board the plane. Dodged a bullet right there.

Then there was the time down in Colombia, when I literally dodged a bullet. A few of them actually.

I was sitting in a beach-side sidewalk cafe in Santa Marta, having a few Cuba Libres, listening to the live band, and watching people promenading along the sidewalk on a warm tropical evening.

I was not bothering a soul, but I have to admit that I did attract a bit of attention, since I was sitting at the table with three beautiful blond babes. They were from Montreal, Canada. I had seen them on the street a day or two previously and they stood out amongst the raven-tressed lovelies native to the area.

I walked over to the ladies and introduced myself. I found out where they were staying and soon, my buddies and I moved into the room across the hall at the same pension. I ended up having a relationship with the cutest of the bunch and spent the 1976 Olympics in Montreal staying at her place, but that is another story.

For reasons lost to edacious time, all three of the gals were with me that evening and my buddies were not.

All of a sudden, this stout, roughhewn, Gaucho-looking fellow appeared in the middle of the cafe. He was not real tall nor huge, but I could tell he was one of those strong like bull fellows that could be a real handful if they managed to get their paws on you.

The Gaucho starts addressing the cafe patrons, occasionally casting a jaundiced eye in my direction. I was not able to follow his speech, but I could clearly hear each time he said Gringo, and not in a nice way.

Without understanding each individual word, I knew what the hell he was saying. It was how in the hell do we let this fucking gringo come in here and take all the best looking women and eat all the best food and drink all the best alcohol and we play music that he likes, when he is nothing but a stinking gringo?

While he is talking I slipped my ratchet knife from Jamaica out of my pocket and thumbed it open under the table, since I expected him to come at me as soon as his speech was finished.

Surprisingly, instead of attacking me, he turned on his heel and stalked out of the cafe and out onto the sidewalk. I thought that I had dodged a bullet at that point, but I was wrong.

I kept a sharp eye out on the sidewalk and street to see if my friend was going to return and cause me some grief. Sure enough, in about fifteen minutes, I saw him sitting in the driver's seat of a jeep parked on the road next to the cafe. He had a young boy sitting in the passenger seat.

I watched the Gaucho as he kept checking his rear-view mirror and turning his head to look back behind him down the street. So when he reached his arm out of the passenger window, I caught the glint of a nickel plated semi-auto pistol before he was able to level it at me. In a flash I had turned the table over with a crashing of glass and dropped down behind it. For a long moment, everyone in the cafe gaped at me. Then the shots rang out and they joined me on the floor.

After putting a few bullets through the glass wall between the outside tables and tables inside the cafe, Gaucho hit the gas and roared off never to be seen again.

The babes were a little pissed at me for diving on the floor without telling them what was going on, but there was no time for talking and I knew who he was after. He was saying gringo like a swear word, not gringa.

So yes, I have dodged some bullets and there is nothing quite so stimulating.

"Nothing in life is so exhilarating as to be shot at without result." - Winston Churchill
