Oaxacan landrace ibl - back to basics

This looks really wicked, Doc!

I had a few phenos that looked similar to that.

You can find it here and there in a batch of Kali Mist.

I use to call it the "crippled pheno".

Different to the mutations you find in some Blueberry strains.

More overall ugly look, not "only" deformed like in the BLue Family, plus the BB mutations seem to grow away with time...

Gonna follow this thread for sure.

Neptune:

That Mexican sounds interresting.

Keep it green,

WOW man! Hahaha, that's one weird ass Oaxacan plant - but it does actually show the proper traits, I can recognize the Oaxacan anywhere, even a freakish one like that. :p Hell yea, it's cool to see that our Oaxacan gets around! I've got a stash of a hundred or so of these seeds as well, as well as one or two selfed one out of a bud.

1978 was a good year, was it not? ;)

The link was already posted by the kind Doc as to the lineage, but if you wanna see the buds this strain can produce, lookie here: http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=20953&page=1&pp=15

And I thought I would come and show off some pictures of this same strain that I had tucked away on my harddrive. These pictures are all this strain - the 1978 Oaxacan Highland Landrace Sativa. You'll notice that the crazy zombie pheno that Doc Leaf got is not featured. ;)

nice thread :D

its going to be fun to see the results of that wrinkly baby :D

anyone who been in oaxaca can see that plant is not very representative. however this doesnt mean it should be of low potency etc, rather its just a mutacion.

here is 2 different oaxacans, one representative of the typical highyield oaxacans, while the other is more looking like a whip.. :D

oaxacan, fat

skinny

There are two different phenos if those are from the same seed batch that Saint V has. I have bunch of those beans also.

looking cool for sure - what are your temps like? maybe the slow metabolism is due to cooler than prefered temps - maybe she likes it hot? I assume oaxao mexico is very warm

anyhow just sitting down and getting ready for the show :D

A loving, dutiful and respectful man living in The West adopts a baby from Mongolia. He proves a good father; he dotes on the child and provides all the care required including, when the time came, a visit to a paediatrician.

The doctor ("old-school") examines the child and reports,
"She's mongoloid."
The father replies,
"Yes, she's from Mongolia; isn't she perfectly beautiful!?!"
The doctor responded,
"Being from Mongolia makes one Mongolian. Yes, indeed she is perfectly beautiful...but I mean she has Down's syndrome."

.........

Greetings DocLeaf

The specimen in question may indeed be an Oaxacan landrace, but it also possesses at least two genetic defects:

1) The gene(s) regulating Auxin production is defective. (The malformed apical meristem is evidence of this condition)

2) The gene(s) regulating (some form) of Kinase production (probably Calcium-dependant) is defective. (The twisted leaf development in conjunction with the slow metabolism/growth is evidence of this condition)

Additionally the specimen shows the symptom of sporadic chlorosis consistent with the damage resulting from thrips infestation.

From an academic point of reference, the maintenance of the specimen with a twelve (12) hour photoperiod would be interesting... for the cultivator it may be considered a misuse of resources (including time).

By all means, if space and inclination permits, grow the specimen out... but in my professional opinion, your skill will better be rewarded if focus was shifted to the germination/cultivation of other seeds.

Sincerely,
Charles.

Even given the somewhat dreadful diagnosis provided by the good Dr. Xavier, I'd still like to say thanks to DocLeaf for the informative thread. Hopefully this 1978 Oaxaca line exists in its full genetic form elsewhere. From SV's pics, they are real beauties.

I've had AK47's with this same deformity before, I always assumed that they leaned to the thai saide of things.

Cool grow, should be interesting see that plant flower out.

ive seen Oregon purple thai with this same trait, and thats got oaxacan in it. pretty much any feeding makes it burn and go more crinkly. im pretty sure its genetics, not anything grower related.

i say grow on with this one. IME mutants can be the keepers and give you great finished product.

Don't think the symptoms of 'sporadic chlorosis' is the correct diagnosis,, and the thrip bit is wild. But hey, the rest sounds good and is highly entertaining, in the least :D

Perhaps plagron have a problem with their soil. :chin: ..lol

Then again perhaps it is my memory, but plants grown from bagseed used to do this quite a bit back when blueberry was still a type of jam :biglaugh:

It's one of those mutant plants,,, the likes of which modern methods are soon quick to forget. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Peace bonecarver

...grown on the window,,, placed into dark room in evening,,, we got space.

The fun is always in the learning. This sort of plant is the sort that normally gets thrown away,, so we'll give it some attention and 12/12 and see what it's saying. If it makes a spliff it will be a nice one :joint:

peace, love, and unity
