There is a solar exhaust fan (that can be hardwired as well) and the entire top (last two sets of triangles) just zips right off for the summer time. its made of very thick vinyl with a nylon fiber rip-stop mesh. 79 or 81% light transmission, depending on who u ask. the roll-up sides, removable top and round door are all secured with marine grade zippers.

Everything above the red line zips off.

420 sq feet and it was about $14K when all was said and done. It goes up in a day and can be moved anywhere. Seemed to make more sense than putting a permanent GH on a rental property... I have always wanted a dome. Sacred geometry and all that... There are certainly WAY more cost effective options.

You can read about how I came to the decision to buy it in my defunct GH thread.

When we built the dome, we had to pull down hard at that spot to get the last strut to fit into its place. Its amazing how stong that point in the structure is. I am not sure of the weight-bearing, but its insane. I can hang from it with zero visible deformation of the dome.

I left it in place because I knew it would come in handy for something... Now, when I am watering I tie the hose up above the height of the plants... hoses on the ground are a huge pain in the ass and can damage plants when snagged. I also tie the hose off at one other point by the hung door where it comes in and there is no point at which the hose can cause any drama. I'll take a pic of the "system" tomorrow.

I plan on replacing it with a proper climbing rope so I can hang from the center top in a harness and tend to the tops of my monster Cough plant.

I'm hoping to make it, but its going to hinge on the timing of a dirt delivery that I have no control over.

Madrus: Thanks for the info. I would have looked into the soil you mention if you had shared the info a few weeks ago. I am now locked into my soil order for 2010. Half the garden is FFOF and the other half will be Greenfields.

I am running into problems getting Age Old Dry Grow. I bought out my local shop and now I'm having a hell of a time getting my hands on it.... they can have it for me by next friday... ! ... not gonna work. Been calling all the local shops all day and nobody carries the dry. Boo!

Oh .... wished i had mentioned this before for u guys , my friend is ordering more than several of truckloads (22 pallets per truck) of Vital Earth's "monomix" & could piggy-back other decent sized orders ontop of that . He wasn't quite together back a few weeks ago but assures me now the Vital earth boyz will be working more exclusively with him from now on. His cost ordering this large is $6/bag & he's charging 60c a bag or 10% only ontop of that . I'd do it at that price as a favor & helping the cause out .

BTW Nomad ... am really loving that geodesic dome of your's WOW/nICE !!!!!!That's a super nice sunspace & bet the light is well reflected back within the dome at night for better veg cycle maintenance till transplant ? And is that a dark-cloth that can be swirled around entirely for light depo treatment i see at the top ? That's a clean functional looking planty space .

Just loving it.... Bucky Fuller lives !!:wave:
