you need pics of pots full of dirt, plough?

planty: Starting from scratch... going a lot bigger than last year too. I am using last year's dirt for the veggie garden.

Medinice: Rice hulls also add silica to your soil. I know people who have had good results mulching their pots with hulls. My Sonoma compost is largely composted brown rice hulls and duck shit.

I use the Grade 4 perlite because the base mix I use (Pro Mix HP) already is about 35% #2 perlite, so putting 4 cubic feet per 300 gallon planter when the base mix is already like 35% small perlite, adding more small doesn't seem like the way to go. I like a mix of big and small to give the soil a good texture and consistency. I don't trust any one to mix my soil for me and bought 3 pallets of amendments to give my garden that organic TLC it it needs...my planters will have crab shrimp chicken fish bone fish meal kelp meal gypsum dolomite lime humate greensand alfalfa and oystershells

Found all the info on the tunnels website you ref'd me to. Thanks a bunch bro!!! exactly what i was looking for and it looks legit for pvc... most others ref's were unstable for pvc framing..

Ok, so the last bit of advice before i make my orders... Im going with 20 ladies, in 100 gal smart pots (7.5 feet apart now), 707 soil, transplanting in mid-may from 5gals.

I am in a great grow area.. Butte county, on the west side of lake oroville..

Here are my strain list:

-Blue Goo - Blue grass seeds (not blueberry/afgoo), this is the only strain i kept while moving to norcal.. i grew 12 clone/club strains last year, and this was the QUEEN! Hope it is just as good outdoors.
-Blue Dream -(really excited to try outdoors)
-Pure Power Plant - Nirvana seeds (heard some good things) and the indoor was good
-Chem Vally Kush - any feedback?
-Pre98 bubba -(not a big fan, hated the indoor last year, just trying one, hopefully better clone this time)
-Super Lemon Kush - Greenhouse seeds
-Blue Cheese! - Barneys.. Any outdoor feedback? i saw the indoor results which were decent.
-Shark Shock - no clue? free seed.. sounded worth trying (talk me out of it?)
-Blueberry (classic, love it when its done right!)
-Sharksbreath - DNA Genetic Seeds (always was a big fan of dna and magus gen)
-Cole Train (another free seed.. heard good things from a friend in humbolt, once again.. talk me out of it?)

also i have a 30 spot aeroponic system under 2600 watt hps with the same strains..

So guys, please let me know if you would change anything and why.. precautions i should take in the area, pests etc. Have alot of deer in the area so im doing like tom and putting up the 6 foot deer fence.

I need at least 2 per plant ave., need some friends around these parts! Thanks!

Only strain I have heard of is the Blue Dream and you're right... she is going to be fun outside.

I would SERIOUSLY consider adding perlite to that 707. That shit is super heavy. I used a mix of it with regular Roots soil last year... I think I would have seen better growth with better drainage and a lighter soil. I am about to get another load of soil here and I think that instead of going for the FFOF agaon, I am going to get a load of Roots Greenfields. It has a very low perlite content so I will probably be adding 3 bags of perlite to each pot rather than the 2 I was using for FFOF.

Pest Prophylaxis: Water predator nematodes into your soil early in the grow... this will handle thrips and much of the other stuff that will breed in your soil. During veg, hit them with a weekly spray of neem or azatrol or aza karanj from wai kula... your best bet is to rotate all three of these products... Once you hit stretch and until about 4 weeks into flower, hit them weekly with BT or a Spinosad product (alternating) for caterpillars. That's my basic plan, anyway.

Awesome, thanks again Maad.

Where do you get your bulk soil orders from? Local or some other means of a delivery?

I cant remember what the two part product is called, but my local greenhouse guy said to purchase it to strenghten my plants if i were goin the greenhouse route. It helps fight off the fungus. Now, even though i decided to keep it straight OD, he still recommends it to strengthen them, although fungus isnt as big of a threat OD as it is for GH. Do you use anything like this for yours? If so, what do you use and why?

Also how much did your dome cost and how do you like it?

BTW, for the 100gal Smartpots, is about 12 cubic feet of soil. So how much cubic feet of perlite would you add? 2 cubic feet for the 100gals?

Seems like a nice mix. Two bags of perlite should loosen things up. What type are you going with? I used Norcal last year, at $12/ bag..on the shoestring budget. Was going to get the Pharoc? or something this year but it's backordered. Back to the Norcal. FF big and chunky is super nice but like twice as spendy. Can't justify it on a big order.

Heya Fish ,

FF buys their perlite from NorCal who grades out the big chunky stuff for em .... used to get it for $6 a bag back a "few yrs ago" lol....when there wasn't all the soil choices there are now & almost all had to be amended .

This "Vital Earth" is one of the best soil peeps out there now & friend is fast becoming their main distributor in NorCal ... u guys should really check it/them out (even the worms are vegans !) .
Could/can hook u up if u want a truck load ....;)
(bagged 22 pallets per truckload, just give the word !!)

Not listed is their "MonoMix" for planting OD , great stuff have been told , can get
just under $7 a 1.5cu bag for ya all :

happy planting , stay healthy !

best regards

i would add 4cf of perlite to 6 1.5 cf bags of soil in a 100 gallon container.... but with the Roots Greenfields, I am going to add more perlite because it has almost none... That's one of the reasons I like it.... its a better deal than other soils since most of them are close to 30% perlite... with the Greenfields you are getting 20% more good stuff... I can always add perlite.

Madrus: Thanks for the info. I would have looked into the soil you mention if you had shared the info a few weeks ago. I am now locked into my soil order for 2010. Half the garden is FFOF and the other half will be Greenfields.

I am running into problems getting Age Old Dry Grow. I bought out my local shop and now I'm having a hell of a time getting my hands on it.... they can have it for me by next friday... ! ... not gonna work. Been calling all the local shops all day and nobody carries the dry. Boo!

Do you know anything about 'Bloom Foliar' spray? Brand is Bloom (not flowering nutrient) It was that two part product i was talking about in previous post up there. Strengthens plants roots etc to prevent fungi etc. My greenhouse guy here swears by it.. says i should use it for any GH or OD grow if possible.

So this Greenfield, is it around $825 for pallet like the 707? Maybe ill give it a try on half of my garden if i can find it around here.

I have the worm farm (Durham) down the street from me... anyone know if theres anything there worth checking out?

I pay $650/pallet after tax... it gets drop shipped to my house by the distributor. In other words, I pay at my local hydro shop, but instead of it getting dropped off there, they take it the extra 10 miles to my house. Its convenient and I still get to spend my money in my neighborhood.

I know that 707 comes in 3cf bags rather than 1.5... but I am almost positive that there are the same amount of total cf on the pallet..and I could have sworn the pallets of 707 were cheaper last year. In any case, $825 sounds high unless there is more on the pallet.

edit: ok... a pallet of 707 has 36x 3 cu bags vs GF which has 60x 1.5cf bags... 108cf/pallet for 707 and 90cf/pallet for GF... at $825 u're paying $7.64/cf for 707 and at $650 I'm paying $7.22/cf for GF. You're paying about $50 too much per pallet if the two soils cost the same per cf from Roots. but I am pretty sure that 707 is supposed to be a bit cheaper.

Oh... and I am not familiar with Bloom products.
