"The more I emulate the dynamics of water in my life, the better things go... "

^^^ so true!

having water ran to all your plants will be a great thing today.........will u be using the same type of irrigation system at the new spot? how are you liking that so far........?

im glad i have 10 months to learn about irrigation and pick brains around here.......i hope by next spring i have some pretty clever hooked up.

its raining pretty steadily here this morning.......

have a great day :tiphat:

I have not given much though to the watering system at the new project.

What I am concerned with now is just getting water to the spot. I did not want to mess with the natural flow of water on the property until I better understand it, so I will be pumping water from a well, up 175 feet in elevation and through 2500 feet of 2" poly to tanks that will provide 30psi at the garden and as much water as up to 4x1" poly will carry.

The pump I got is a monster (i'll post pics of it later) and will pump 20GPM at 220 feet of head. At 175 feet of head it will give me 40 gpm into my tanks. I have 6000 gallons of storage for now. Another advantage to the gas pump is that it can be moved around and used to fill tanks higher up on the property from the first set of tanks we'll fill. I like mobile. I like versatile.

1" poly flows just under 550 GPH. Predator nematodes and BTi play nice as far as I can remember since both eat Chitin and Chitin based foods..

got a capacity for 2"?

I am trying to figure out if this pump will work at either end of the poly run... ergo, will it suck as powerfully as it pushes water? Its has a 2' inlet and a 2" outlet.... my life would be considerably simplified if it can suck.

Here's how to figure out the flow in the pipe.

1. multiple the pressure in the line by 2.31 to get the driving force..

2. Now we take in to account the change in elevation...whatever that is subtract it from your driving force directly if it is up hill..for example if you end up with 500 ft of driving force and need to go up hill 200 ft your driving force is 300..

3. Hazen-Williams equation to calculate friction loss (http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/hazen-williams-water-d_797.html) you can just put the variables in and push Calculate at that site...

4. Plug in 10 GPM up to 100 GPM (so you get 10 points) in to the equation , then graph Flow(the gpms) on the X axis with feet of water on the Y axis...Find your driving force on the graph then make a straight line across to intersect the system curve ...from the intersection go straight down to Flow...Whatever you come up with will be how much water is going to come out of the end of the pipe

That's how to do it yourself.

Good morning, ICM. I love the time before we pull tarps off... The plants seem to emanate great vibes before the full sun hits. I like to soak up that energy and store it for the day.

even after a week of arrested development due to overwatering, the dreams are filling out.

That dome is 14 feet tall.

Bubbz doesn't reach for the sky like the Blue Dream, but she is stout as fuck. Really massive plant.

Thanks, Guyute. Howdy, humble1. Will you be at the cup next weekend?

Did not manage to get water to the tanks today. we did get all our 2" run and the manifold built and the pump started, but we called it a day at about 7:50... We ran out of water with which to prime the pump and I had to get home to pull tarp.

Tomorrow morning, first thing, I will make that pump my bitch.

Things sound great, but I cant see the pics. It appears TG can see them. Did you pull them down or did I smoke too much and accidentally click the "Make all pictures appear as "X's"" button?

Great show as usual, Nomaad!
Familial duties are keeping me away from the cup this time, so you'll have to smoke my share for me, lol.
I loved that dome!
p.s. I still have your grinder

Looking real good Nomaad--You've inspired me to try an outdoor garden--
a cat backhoe,16 acres,irrigation,and 24 of my tallest mothers!
so far so good--running some PineRom,Bluecheese,Cherry pez,CottonCandy,XXXdiesel,
purple lemonade, and some bag seed from the bottom of jars that a club owner gives me.
Keep up the great work

I figured Nomaad and others would like to know how to calculate out the flow in a pipe over distances...considering that is something important to the success of our grows :) It isn't very hard..just time consuming.

its not even that time consuming. solid info. good to know.

TurtleFarmer: glad to here you're gonna throw down outside this year. i look forward to YOUR THREAD!

love the avatar, by the way. never owned an air-cooled bus, but I have an 85 syncro westie in El Honduragua. best ride ever.
