Nomaad OD:2010

i have completely lost the plot, it would seem, because I am having trouble remembering a conversation that would have resulted in the "alien" (i am assuming its alien kush?) clone having my name on it. I feel bad, but I have completely spaced the events that led to this.

I think thats the Alien Kush x Afpack/ Blue Goo i left for you last week.

That'll work bro.

What I did was drape a swatch over the top (A), then another around the sides (B), then in with 8' bamboo near the top where A&B overlap (thereby fastening them together), then back out of B two rungs from the bottom.

Looks like this.

TJO: yeah... doesn't that strain sound sick? I am going to try and pick it up tomorrow. hands off, mofo! :D (thanks, layedback... how could I have forgotten?!) Thanks for the props, bro. This season is going to be unreal.

LH: glad to be of assistance. best part about ICM is the way we help each other get to the top of the mountain.

Tom: Thanks for the tutorial. Huge help. I like your method... I think I'll do some your way if/when my bulk hortonova ever shows up.

I have seen black trellis netting before... smaller holes, but still workable.

If it makes you feel more secure, go for it. I dunno how much less visible it makes your plants. The stuff certainly has a bit of a glow in the early and late sun.

Re: pumice

Re: pumice

Hey Nomaad, what a fantastic, info-packed thread you have going!

I've been watching for a while, but have yet to chime in. Up to this point I just haven't had anything worthwhile to contribute. That is until the subject of pumice came up here and in the large plant thread. If you haven't already found a new source of perlite, I would recommend that you try pumice or 3/8" lava rock in your late-start garden.

For me, the biggest advantages of these alternatives are that they are a little heavier and a little harder than perlite, but every bit as porous. In some cases (i.e. when you need to move pots around a lot) this can be a slight disadvantage. With the large smart pots (or any large volume container), however, the extra weight and durability are great because they don't migrate up to the soil surface like perlite or compact down into dust as readily, instead remaining in the root zone to provide aeration where desired.

It has also been my experience that they hold a little more water than perlite, and help cut down on watering a bit, but there are people who would disagree with that opinion, or at least regarding higher grades of perlite.

Both are significantly more environmentally responsible - a consideration I'm glad you keep in mind. While perlite is technically an organic ingredient, its production requires a significant energy input in terms of the heat needed to "pop" it in an oven and generate its porosity/light weight.

It's also been my experience that pumice and lava rock are available by the yard, whereas perlite can't usually be bought in anything bigger than 2-4 cubic foot bags. At $50 a yard give or take considering delivery, it's probably more cost effective to have a load dropped off.

If you're considering re-using your soil for veggie beds afterwards, score another one in the pumice/lava rock column - they last a lot longer.

Anyway, that's my two cents. I hope it encourages you to do a test run slash comparison. Your previous experimentation (and honest documentation) has opened peoples' eyes to different ways of doing things, to say the least.

Ha. Two cents, my ass. That was more like a dime. I wish you would have laid that on me about 10 days ago. It would have been worth a cool quarter. I will keep it in mind for the future. Thanks for the excellent contribution to the thread.

email from Ag Solutions:

Regarding the Hortonova we have been let down by the manufacturer who has failed to keep up with demand this year. We were told this would be available and would ship thursday, we got an update this morning telling us the size you ordered will now not be available until the 7/10/2010. However if you would like the 4' wide hortonova we now have that available to ship out immediately.

BOOOOO! I should have been informed last monday (made my order on sunday) that the order would not ship till after it arrived from the manufacturer on the following Thursday.

I can get 6.5'x50' pieces at Big Daddy's in Ukiah for about 10$. That covers about 2 plants. Guess that's the route I am going.

Ah yes, our mutual acquaintance, how is the monastic hermit these days?

Showing pictures of my humble set up to you feels a bit like undressing in front of a lady for the first time, only after a spot of cold solid ice-bathing.. Be gentle with me...

(This is one of the triplets, the other two sisters we were planning on are either ridiculously retarded or aborted themselves when they went from wet germination to soil..)

Will get a few wide angle pics of the rather fetching cement mix grow tub in broader daylight..

No sleep before the winter solstice for you now.. you know the rules..!

aaawww. cute widdle baby ganja plant! it will be in your pipe before you know it. once you start getting involved with the lifecycle of this plant, you're hooked. feminized, yes? can't wait to see how it turns out.

the hermit's new hermitage is the ganja garden. He's doing fine work out there and learning a lot, fast. Imagine the focus he applies to music turned to the plants. He's killing it out there from sun-up to sun-down. at the end of it, he's tired, but has a plan for the next day before he lays his head down. i am suitably impressed. The plants love him back for his attention. The wife really wants him to finish her tattoo... maybe after winter solstice. ha. i'll be sleeping.

you should come for the trim.

OK. I definitely have fungus gnats in my Roots Greenfields soil. Very bumbed. I will be calling the owner of Aurora and demand the boittle of gnatrol he supposedly promised to every customer with the problem.

I call bullshit!

I am hitting everything in Greenfields with BTi in every watering until the problem is gone. I am just putting mosquito dunks into a 5 gallon buckent, breaking them apart and hand watering thru the doser. I hope this is effective.

hey man you might wanna try microbelift bmc. i was using the stuff to kill powdery mildew spores in the soil, but T.Gold put me on to it in higher doses for fungus gnats. and man it worked. you can get it in the gallon size for like a hundo. it is extremely concentrated. its a bacteria, so you cant really overdo it.

what bacteria?

edit: looked it up. its just BTi in one of its many forms. mosquito dunks are very inexpensive and are made from the same bacterium.

T

Trinity Gold

The point of using the BMC is that it is so concentrated that it will be fast acting and a "total kill" solution. Yes it's the same species but a quart will treat 5000 gallons every other week for 17 weeks how far do the dunks go? Good luck with the problem.
