Very good point. Thinking out loud here, but I am lucky to have well water that is damn close to what I want my feeds at... I guess I will have to learn how to adjust my nute solution pH to react properly with my well water pH. As long as my well water is a constant (not, though the fluctuation is pretty small) and my mix ratio is constant, getting it to work should not be difficult. Just going to take a bit of figuring out. Nice one for making me start thinking about this.

My homegirl who KILLS it does not and has never pHed her outdoor waterings or feedings. She has grown in a number of paradigms and had ever more success. Flies in the face of my beliefs, but she laughs at me when we go to the growshop and I buy the 16 pound bucket of dry pH adjustment. go figure.

gg ever though about running AF's rather than dealing with that whole tent situation?

Just a thought. I find it helping me in my situation tremendously.

no. i have not given much thought to autoflowers. some, but not much. if you can find me autos as dank as what I am running in my black boxes, I would consider them with an open heart. makes perfect sense.

thinking about the dosatron... ph adjustment is as easy as it is in a standard res like I used last year, feeding with a weak-ass pump... only in this scenario I have a valve, post fertilizer injector, to take sample the mix and adjust ph pre-injector till it shits it out the way I want it. pretty simple, really.

i want a farm like yours. too bad the man would bust my ass within an hour of setting something like that up around here.

Nomaad,

whats the aversion to metal cages? I know ive heard something like metal and soil dont mix, cant remember why. Butte uses em and seems to get good results..

Hey bro, check out Easy Feed Systems out of Oaksterdam. They have the most trick injection system out there now.. Got a call to meet up with the owners of the company when they were up here promoting their product the other day...kind of serendipitous ..if I was going to run an injector system I'd get the Easy Feed..but nothing I do would lend itself to using one of those..

Just a very trick system I feel you'll appreciate...

also, are you checking soil pH and adjusting your solution to get the right pH in the soil or are you just changing the pH of the liquid and not testing the soil?

My favorite outdoor from last year was fisher's chems after about a 2.5 month cure. That was the stash I took to Tahoe in feb. I won't blow his location, but it is far from Humboldt.

I appreciate the words, thanks brother. Those chems were dank, still almost all I smoke on.

On the Cough issue, maybe I missed it, but is pulling tarp over a full season plant (maybe in late July) for a bit to initiate flowering an option? I want to run it as well, but also want to be on vacation by december. Not still harvesting.

Its funny to me when people kill with no pH. lol. Ive had identical hydro setups with identical strains, lighting, nuts etc the same, but when it came to pH, my buddy never did it (even more stupid with hydro after adding those strong nuts) and he would beat my grow by 30% yield everytime! lol, and overall my ventilation, ppms, etc, i think where in alot better shape. Damn pH rebels! ha

My OD will be at the other end of a 12 acre orchard field. Unfortunately, I cant use the irrigation for the orchard because it has been unoperational for some time, and turning on the water could result in a major loss in water (from a possible break underground somewhere). I was about to run irrigation lines almost a half mile back!

Thankfully, I just came across a large faucet about 15 feet away from where my ladies will be! Woohoo! I have no idea whos water it may be... for its not to my house or irrigation... And the pH sits at about 6.3 - 6.5. Not bad at all.

Which gets me to my next question. I know Tom uses his own mix, and doesnt feed, but what about the rest of you guys? no fert? maybe bucket feed the fert and not worry about the fertilizer injection on the drip line?

F:15- I think that if you start some Cough late ) so they don't get too big (you're probably starting to see that it gets real big real fast) and then start pulling tarp in mid-late July, I think you'll kill it. And maybe not have to pull tarp in the last month of flower? From what I know, if you are going to push it to its full, natural season, you are going to need to have it in a GH with heat.

I could do this, but, with the GH and the two hoop houses, I am not feeling like building another light dep system just for the cough. Either they go into the hoops in early August (where i could start pulling tarp on them...but heat and humidity will be hardcore issues OR they go into the GH to run their full season as a small plant sea of green with HPS to brighten up those cloudy days.

Another possibility I have been toying with is to do a small-plant tabletop sea of green with a breathable black box covering... The fabric from FF for this kind of a setup would be less than $1000... I'd start 12/12 in Mid July as the regular light dep comes down and harvest in mid October, before the rest of my full season comes down.

I might do some tests and see how the couhg will veg into a SCROG, how long it will take to fill it out, etc. I am also looking into the possibility of running a third small blackbox starting now of just cough. I'd start pulling tapr over it immediately to get a jump on the resy of the boxes.

Regardless, Tahoe nug jars will be full of the cough this year fo sho. (I am also running chem D and chem 91 as late season replacements when black boxes come down. They are vegging under the MH on movers now along with the rest of that round... but in another month or so, they will be under t5 only so I can better control the temps in the veg space.

Getting a Twister this year? I am hoping that black box harvest provides enough abundance to get one myself. I'd like to handle 3-5 times the yield from last year in the same amount of time, with the same crew.

Good to hear from you, fisher. I'll be up your way when things mellow out.

planty: I will look at that injector today. Thanks.

localhero: I just don't like the idea of caging in my plants with multiple layers of metal. i don't love the idea of plastic netting either, but by weight, hortinova netting is pretty low-impact. Its an environmental thing and a tactile thing for me, I guess. I just don't want to have to be dealing with tons of metal that gets rustier year to year. The idea of carting all these cages from this grow to my next (should I have to leave due to ordinances next year) is not at all appealing.

Hey maad, a question on storage, dry product limits, and setting up nonproft.

What do you do about trimming? How many heads did you have working and how much time did it take per lb last year?

As for storage, I would like to keep all jars in my house to burp daily, and although I have 3 scripts from doc hopkins for 25 mature and 5 lbs dry, I would hope to exceed 15 at the end of the season. So what do you guys do with the excess before donating it on the market? different location? I know exceeding 99 plants is federal, and i thought 99 lbs was as well, but i just wanna make sure about the dried weight part.

Last, I know how to setup my nonprofit, but i was hoping you had some pointers or some advice on anything you did last year?

planty: last year I adjusted pH of my feed solutions to between 6.3 and 6.8 depending on the contents of the feed. I occasionally tested the pH of a soil solution the day after feeding and found that it was always between 6 and 7. That is the extent of it.

this year I am going to own more sophisticated pH tools, including an accurate soil pH meter... so I will be doing a little more to stay on top of it.

Layedback: seems silly to set up drip irrigation and then not use it for feeds. personally, i'd either set up a system and use it for everything, or just hand water and bucket/pump feed. But we will see how I actually wind up doing things in practice.

I believe that Tom's soil mix is meant to obviate the need for feeding during veg only. Tom rarely checks in here... you should probably post your questions in the big plant thread.

I will never have more than 99 plants on site at any time. It would just be a silly risk. I am trying to stay 100% on the straight and narrow...

Last year, I got about 1lb per trimmer per day. My trimmers were all total rookies from out of town, but are 100% trustworthy, vetted and having them in my house for a month for any reason would be brilliant. If I need more, there is a workforce on standby of equally trusted familia. This year, I am hoping to do the same crew of 5, but work much faster with the help of a trimpro or two (i was given one as a gift from a person who retired last year...if it works well at black box harvest, i may get a second for the fall) and a Twister.

I dont doubt you dont exceed the 99 plant count. But my question was more focused on the dried material.

30 plants x 3lbs = 90lbs.

I could see a collective having enough members to support that number, but last year when you were a newb, I would have guessed you didnt have scripts to support 90...?

heh. 90 would have been nice. i didn't yield nearly that much. i only did 18 plants and a lot of my strains were imposed on me rather than chosen.

And if the collective is overstocked due to the time of year? Im just afraid I will have the bud and it will have no where to go, lol.

you will just have to give it away to the members of the collective you are growing for.
