The few plants I've tried that were out of SSSC seed lots have all been stellar.. Why can't I buy seeds like that any more?

any sealer like that will work with jars i guess. Does the gas flush help with curing? I thought co2 was what was needed to cure.

Ive been doing the, "perfect cure everytime" method, Have to say those hygrometers are the shit and i like knowing exactly what the humidity is so i can keep in the safe zone: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=156237 but once a trimmer comes into play ill need to switch up to the hanging chamber style. and i have no clue how that works or how you tell when its time to jar.

Looks good. I prefer hanging em out to dry whole than dealing with a lot of small buds. I feel like finished quality of herb that was left to dry whole and then trimmed by hand is higher than that of the one dried off the stem. I don't think the machine has any thing to do with the quality. Trimming is trimming...I just think it is the drying that makes the difference in samples.

Well... I have now harvested , dried and cured a total of 2 harvests... so I am no expert. And my methods are going to have to change this year because I am planning on getting a Twister and have already been given a Trimpro...

BUT... till now my process looks something like this:

I have a 24x24 insulated garage with a dehumidifier keeping the humidity at around 40-45%. At this humidity the ganja is ready to trim in 7-10 days. At black box time, the humidity was about 25% and things were crispy and ready for the trim in about 3-4 days. Too fast. I will probably get a humidifier this year to bring it up to 40-45%.

I hung two tiers of hooks (at 5 and 9 feet off the ground) every two feet on both sides of the garage. I use nylon masonry cord from hook to hook making a total of 24 lines for hanging.

We harvest the plants, branmch by branch, and, after big-leafing them, hang them on the lines. To move things along, after the branches are externally crispy, we buck the nugs off the branches and into multi-tiered drying racks to finish drying and make more space for newly harvested branches. The trimmers work out of the drying racks and into clean cardboard boxes.

From the boxes, the nugs go into open paper supermarket bags for a day or two and then into open turkey bags for another day or two. When the moisture level is JUST right we start to close the turkey bags. I burp the bags a couple of times a day until the bags are gone.

Headstash goes into 1/2 gallon mason gars and get burped every day for 2 weeks and then a couple of times a week for another month or so.

This year, everything is going to be trimmed wet. First I will big-leaf with the trimpro and then buck directly into the twister. From there into the drying racks (where I worry that the nug will flatten on the side that is on the rack. thoughts?)

drying racks rock. i have only used them once, and i used them on my last indoor. the buds all kept there shape, and without any turning or disturbing while drying.

personally, I dont like using my rack to dry right away. Ive had a total of 14 harvests so far (indoor of course) and as you say Maad, the fresh buds dont keep their shape on one side. I've also folded it over as planty said, and while they kept more shape, I feel the quality overall (nug shape, look, even affected taste) was signifigantly less than the same buds of which i used the process you describe first: hang for 3 days, trim buds off and then put on racks. Just my opinion, but i will never trim fresh and lay on racks again, unless i have too much bud and no room or maybe time to do it that way.

planty, you mean collapse it flat? that would make sense to fluff it all out. Might be wise to do this gently every day, not only for fluffing, but for even and efficient drying. Do I have to hire fluffers this year?

One of the brands of rack I got last year had hanging gear on both sides and one brand didn't. Seems like in 09, the whole world ran out of those things... and then suddenly a bunch of hastily produced and lower quality racks turned up. It was a good business opportunity for somebody.

Yes I mean to just collapse it and flip it over so the nugs are now on the other side. I was also told I could hang them horizontally and roll them but I will be able to dry less per rack this way...and I don't like the idea of rolling them.

I don't know about hiring fluffers..LOL...I also don't see myself getting a set of twisters because I have to manually break them down still. I heard there was a solution to that in the works, but I would still need a crew to run the set up, spending on machines and paying for hourly wage...ouch.. since I'm not an octopus and I don't like drying off the stem...I see myself just harvesting and drying in the barn and doing it the old fashioned way. I don't have the luxury of being able to leave them standing late in to the fall either. I have to get done or risk losing weight to frosts..I think I'm one of the few heads who will just have it done the old fashioned way 'till they die.

Layedback: as far as I can tell, it would be impossible to do this with a trim machine as the nugs must get bucked and trimmed immediately.

Too much bud and no room is exactly how it is going to be this year. I have crunched the possibilities for doing 3x the work of last year in the same space and its just impossible. Without a new system.

I think I will hang dry and hand trim a very special selection of each harvest. The Gran Riserva.

you know the whole put it in a paper bag then plastic bag then jar thing is what im trying to avoid. paper bag for trim from the start yeah. seriously though if you want to tighten up your game and not have to burp hundreds of jars every day and be guessing, try that hygrometer in the jar method for your headies. put a hygrometer in every so many jars as a sample. if the humidity is above 70% then you need to burp. if its around 55 to 65% then you dont have to burp, there is no possibility of mold at that rh and u can leave your jars closed, closed from the air and curing.

Yeah i feel ya Maad... I am aiming for the too much bud and not enough room as well ;) as are we all i hope! I dont know what I will be doing at the end of this season, for a small indo harvest is nothing in comparison... ( and i thought indo trimming was hell ) So I will hope to afford a trimpro so i can push everything out in a timely manner... and if so, will most likely be using the same process as you.

I will definately treat that Gran Reserva with a little more care though!

One thing I thought up just now and I would like to float..I could do a first cutting of the top section of my ladies and hang them in the barn and do em by hand... a couple weeks later take the medium and smaller buds and put them through the machine..then mix? I don't know... Seems like that would be even more trouble and expense.

Sounds like a good plan, planty... trimming would go so fast if you did not have humans handling the littles. And they would disappear into the better trimmed tops.
