My fave taco combo plate was 1 pollo, 1 asada, 1 carnitas. Cilantro, cebolla, lime. Classic simplicity. A Jarritos lime and you were set for like $5.
Sometimes late nights, when all else was closed I'd hit this little taco drive through place on the way home from the lab. You know, the type only seen in Cali. They had this taco supreme dish for like $8 bucks, Carne asada, refried beans, green onions, chilis, Guacamole, cheese. You know the type, greasier than reasonable, but man did it ever hit the spot when you were famished.
Cali-mex really is under-appreciated. I spent a fair bit of time in a little farm town, heavy mex influence. I remember this one shop that was almost exclusively frequented by the mainly mexican farm hands. They made one hell of a chile verde burrito.
I was lucky enough to tour the central coast area with Sam Skunkman and his lovely wife. We ate mexican time and time again (it's what you do when you are deprived from Cali-mex, living away from the state), I've never eaten so many chili rellenos in a week!
Check out a little restaurant called Picante if you find yourself in Berkeley- great Guac served with homemade tortilla chips, really thick cut. The rellenos are excellent, but the tacos are also fire. Watermelon agua frescas. It's a can't miss spot if you are in the area.
Some of the best workers at my workplace show up quite high at the start of their daily shifts & they smoke again at meal break time (off-site).
Some of the less efficient employees are non-mj users.
