damm great thread with fond memories of me getting hooked growing.

These threads hooked me into the scene and i just wanted to say the following:

Why waste the available verticle space?? those boxes have nothing above them!!!

I took that general flaw and created my tower out of pure marine grade ply with treated F4 timber water sealant paint and screws gallore.

it measures 700 deap 1400 wide and 2000 high yes the size of a full sheet of ply hehe

So thank you again OG

ohh is there any complaints if i steal these and add to my ebook as shown below if you have any saved in any format pls send to me PM for email or look into the ebook

Mrs. Durban came up with this idea. What do you guys think? I would guess that the new compartment you could make larger to really add some space in there. The veg and the old utility room were very small. This way you could put all the Utilities in the same room and have PLENTY of extra space and you wouldn't have to use so much wood like this either.

Leave some comments guys! Thanks!

Dp.....
Love the wife's plan....any measurements on it? Also, I'd really like to try my hands and the small SWC, but haven't been able to find much information on it anywhere....how about a quick DIY on it?....or.....anything on the SWC for a small space such as this would be helpful to me. This will be grow # 3 for me, and the # 1 for hydro....so I've got a lot to learn.

Ps....Love the thread man, well done and detailed out !!

Thanks
Dp

ummmmmmmmmmmmm dam that dp done hijacked me thread lol well i will try and help intill dp retruns swc is realy easy dude just go to wall mart or doallrs store or where every and get ya a ummmmmmm i think it was a 6 gallon rubber made container with lid one 5 watts air pump with plenty of tubing and 2 6 or bigger air stones and if you can find it some silver window wrap to light proof it or duck tape or black rubber spray paint me i like the window wrqap my self since it free and is totaly light proof next your going to need a way to hold the plants so me i cut 2 hole big anough to hold a 2" net cup but there other ways of doing this like using pool noodles or spoung rubber and realy thats about all there is to it very cheap and simply and works great with this set up becuase we need all the head room we can get and i think the 6 gallon is 8" hign there use to be a thread on swc on og but i have had no luck finding it ohhhhhhhhhhand lok for durbins thread in the grow diary he has some baby growing right now and he is all ways glad to help and me as well, ohhhhhhhhh the only real proublem with this is the nute temp you have to keep it cool like 68-72 any hotter and you will end up with root rot what i did was take a 2" dwv sch 40 90 and tape a pc fan to it blowing in wards and this help keep mine cool for cheap or make or buy a chiller wich is going to cost mo money. but ya know a diy thread on swc might just work me and durbin might be able to make one since there doesnt seem to be able info on it. but any ways i got to go for a wile if you need any more help let me or durbin know.

Stevr:
LOL! Sorry Stevr! Wasn't trying to hijack the thread! Just steal! KIDDING! No really I wasn't. I just got a bit carried away during construction - my bad. Thanks for all the props man.

Stevr probably has better information to provide. I can tell you that I tried to do just like he did though. I got 2" net pots and just made some holes slightly smaller than the rim of the net pot so they would slide in easy and hold firmly. The tub you can find all over. I just saw some and wally world. 7 Gallon RubberMaid Tub. Make sure to get the purple or dark colored lid if they have it - then you wont have to worry as much about algae.

Once you have your tub with the holes for 2" net pots (or pool noodles or your own creation to hold a cutting), then you need to make sure to cover the exterior of the tub well to prevent light from getting in. Most of us have used duct tape. I just did two strips. So the last half inch or so of the tub is exposed but I haven't had any problems yet. My tub lid is purple and I did a layer of duct tape on it as well. Although, you may want to do like stevr did with the window covering stuff. It looks a lot more pro.

Lastly, you need to run air line from a pump. I have a 20gal aquarium pump (wanted to make sure I had plenty of bubbles. My pump I have run a line from and made a small hole in the front-far right of the tub. This is where I put my 'Y' adapater. From the little Y adapter I ran two more small lenghts of line to two 10" bubble wands. I also only fill it up as far as 5 gallons.

A little trick I learned while refilling the res so you can monitor how much your plants are drinking is to put two gallons of water, then make a line. (OH yeah, I left a 1" strip on the top that wasn't duct taped so you can see the water level.) Anyhow - from two gallons just make a line after every gallon. So you'll have a 2 gallon mark, 3, 4, and 5. Generally I wait until they've drank a gallon of water and then I top off the res with the same recipe.

Also, something else you can do to avoid from having to make these extra panels like stevr are likely to be doing (since the cab is really just a bit too small for our equipment and NGB didn't have a carbon scrubber in his box) - just make the thing larger. 4" - 6" taller and from the wall from the flower and mother box, extend the cab another 4". Then you should be good to go on space and fit plenty of equipment in the utility box which is my main concern right now. I'm just leaving it as is until this crop is thru so I can have some down-time. Plus i'm starting a separate larger grow with 10 plants just in soil. Working on a light moving system though and a really cheap grow chamber. (Cardboard lined with mylar anyone? LOL)

Good luck man, hope this helps.

lol just kidding DP i dont mind one bit... i wish i had batts for my cam becuse it would be sweet to do a diy on swc like drpepper said there no info i know of on this more i think about it i dont remeber seeing hardy any thing on this on og. secound you said ur adding 5 gals to your rez i only add 2 gallons to mine was doing 3 frist couple of growsi think 2 gallons keep my water level about an inche below the net cup but hey if it work go for it, how much water are ur babys using a day mine where useing 32 to 48 oz a day my tomatoe plant is useing 1/2 gallon a day wich i top mine off every day and when the ppm drop about 200 i add more nutes to bring it back up to the ppm rang for my plant... so far my tomato is doing great now thanks to sproutco i whent back to fngrow and added a lil lime to it to add more cals wich was a lil low with the fngrow only problem i am having now is the flower open and i hand polante em and a day later they fall off wich means no tomatoes. wich i read some where thats was a sign of p or a k definces. but over all they doing 90% better.. nute profiling of the plant type ur growing is the only way to fly since i been doing this that dam tomatoe plants is going nuts open the door yesterday and half of it fell out of the box when i push it back in i could hardly see into the box i might be wroung but i swear this thing is growing 6 " a day... but what have i learn from growing a tomatoe plant well i learns all about how to manage my nutes better leanrd how to know how much nutes to add back to the rez and the best thing i have learned tomatoes dont do good at all in a smalll box lol. ohhhhhhhhhh one last ting i like to add i amm all so driving blind on my ph my meter is way out of wack and i am out of the liquid tester and out of money as well so i am letting the ph do what it wants wish i could find that thread on how to make ue own had some thing to to with red lettece and making it. but i hate liquide tester they suck big time i cant tell on shade of green from the other all looks the same to me lol.

I'm planning one out slowly. I have most of the stuff needed, but I have to get the supplies and catch a day off to construct. A quick run down of my inventory is (2) 65 watt Fluorx 6500k, (4) 20 watt 6000k (2) 23 watt 3000k and (1) 150 HPS for the lighting. (1) Hyrdofarm 465 cfm fan (4) 120 cfm fans. All the components to construct a sunshine scrubber, and a lot of other mickey mouse shit that'll be needed.

I'm planning on your wife's design of enlarging the flower room a little, along with the equipment room. BUT, I think my fan will be outside of the cabinet...but very nicely concealed in the attic.

My only thing right now is I would love to go SWC, but if I can't control the heat SWC may not be the way to go. Regardless of soil or hydro, SCROG is going to be tried. I just need to save the $$$ for some fem seeds, I don't want to risk a SCROG grow to be ruin by a male.

Enough for now.....BUT, I'd love to see the DIY SWC thread for small micro grows like these from you guys ! ! !

Hey Steve, Have you ever contemplated using Darkroom vents on the NGB? The 8x8 inch vents might help keep those cabinets cooler. I am not certain how you would incorporate them (what side) but a large vent might help get rid of the pvc piping and free up some room. Here is the link: http://www.adorama.com/DKL82.html . I was told to put a filter between the slats, aids the light proofing and keeps the bugs out. I can give you more info when I order/receive mine. Soon.

Those vents are used a lot in the Mills Pride thread. The 4" round are not light proof.

I worked on my big 'box' today. It is coming along very nicely. I will be running an ole 400 watt hps in alittle over 6+ square feet if all goes as planned. The 400w is old and was recycled from security duty so we'll see how that goes since Murphy keeps poking his head in whenever possible.

Speaking of Murphy and his law, I heard a mouse in my out building the other day. I just rebaited some traps and already had a hit. Seems last night the trigger was too stiff to snap. I hope they told their friends about the free meal cause tonight they pay. How many more of those little buggers are running around? I imagine going to check on the plants only to find some mice have chewed all the bark off the stems and sentenced them to die!

Seems like that should be on the "to do" list when starting up a grow. #? Don't forget to set some mouse traps around, just in case. I don't blame them for wanting to get inside, out of the cold.

Ps. my plan is to do two grows before the onset of hot weather but time is running out. Might make two harvests or stagger plantings until it heats up. Damn, it's not even Christmas and I'm already thinking about when the heat will get here.

What color shorts you gonna wear on Christmas day? Something festive?

does anyone have the ngb tutorial? I have seen the salvaged page here on ic, but it has low res pics and doesn't show how to build the actual box or set up the fluorescents in the mother area.

well i learned from the the original ngb tutorial on og and he never had any pics of the flos in the mouther room . i have search and really had no luck finding the it in tacked best i could find is what is posted on ic and as he never showed how to bulid it either but i do think that the ngb box tutorial could be re done with pics showing how to make it and with some new improvements.ohhhhhhhh and them flos in the mother room are a big pain in the ass to install i all so used the 4- 18 watts flos as did NGB and thats just way to much time consuming work. if you want to learn how to bulid the box this is the place fell free to ask any question. me and durbin poison can help.

I would like to build one very much, but I dont have a saw to cut up ply wood for the damn thing. Is there a cabinet I can buy that has the big flower chamber and the mother area? I looked at durbans thread and it looks like his cab is one of those professional deals, because the doors have that design cut into them. Also, how much money do I need to make this thing fullly operational? How much did you guys spend? I am trying to make a budget and seeds and nutrients cost money, so does a light, fan, wood, etc. so I'm wondering how much I need to get going. Thanks for the quick response.

Moonshoes: LOL. Thanks for the comment. I built the cabinet myself though. Those are just custom raised panel doors. I could probably go into business designing the shells for people and sending them out - laser cut like mine. You may not be able to see it, but grooves are cut into the mother chamber for the shelf to slide in for more support. Problem is, the design is really too small to set it up correctly. Some minor adjustments can certainly be made to improve the box. Go back some pages on this thread, Stevr and I and some other had a few discussions on modifying the box.

As far as the instructions on the SWC or mounting lights in the mother room, it's pretty easy. In my mother room I used different types of lights. I used a couple of CFL's and two really small tube floros. They are only 12-14" long I can't remember. Seem to do the trick though so I can't complain. I'm sure a lot easier than mounting those crazy floros lol.

i have to admit DP cab does look professional, unlike my ghetto rig cab. lol which mine was just a prototype and mine was free i just got scraps of plywood off a house i was working on. my 150 watt enconlite only cost 40 bucks my dayton fan cost me 80 the 18 watts flos cost me around 20 buck or so think i spent more on the hard ware and nutes than the cab it self. but home depot or lowes will cut the wood for ya and so will any cabinet or wood working shop.. soon as i get the money i am going to build a new one just like dps i got all the tools to make the raised panel doors. as far as pre built cabs i don't know of any off hand that are close to the NGB style but i am sure a few can come close with a lil work.but i would not build it like the oringal box i would change it as it don't have room for all the fans and stuff. this cab is a stealth cab if i was not worried about some one knowing what i was doing i would go for A C-22 CAB OR HYDROHUTT but over all it doe's a nice job. getting 4 oz each grow is not bad for my needs . and for how much i got in it ummmmmmm cant really remember but it's close to 500 or so with nutes and seeds but i took my time building it more like 6 months before i made my first run. but your still looking at close to 500 or so may be less if your good and using scraps best bet would be to hang around home sites there building and get scraps of wood just ask most will let you have it. the silver jackets on ac flex duct pipe make good and cheap replacement for mylar and you can get this off job sites as well as wiring to wire the box same with screws and nails and paint ect ect hell if you know a few cool electricians they could hook you up with parts to make a 150 watt lite one hook me up with a new fart fan and cords and wire nuts. if one was good and finding used stuff one could dam near build it for free. one last thing when the hell did they add spell check on here lol

That link is for 2 darkroom vents. Another company sells them for 20$ a piece but I went with two for 35 since 'Simon' and others from the Mill's Pride Club recommended using two. I can move them to other future cabinets when I break down this box in spring. Yeah, it comes apart for storage and moving but not as much as I would like. Still a work in progress. The top third comes off.

A mouse got in your computer and fucked your motherboard? Wow, what a horny bastard! How did he get in there? Maybe it was a girl and she was looking for the harddrive.

weather: I am looking up your area right now. Might help if I knew how to correctly spell your town. Damn Weather.com, you would think they would incorporate a spell search! Hmm, weather.com doesn't know where you are. Your town doesn't exist. But that larger town to the west is showing 9 degrees higher than here so I can see you being comfortable. But save the AC for January!

Wow, :moon: on Christmas Day? Well I know someone who isn't getting any presents hand delivered from me! I'll stick to visiting family.

What tools are needed for the FULL contructions of the box? *building the box, installing lights and cutting and so forth* All I really have in my house are screw drivers, a drill, and wrenches =/

Do you sugguest constructing the box first, then look at things that will work well with it. Because my mind is racing at all this information and what will work and not work.

I would pay a lot for a already constructed box lol!!! :woohoo:
