NFL 2019-2020

So you've got the patriots over titans, texans over bills, saints over vikings, seahawks over eagles? Sounds good, probably most experts have picked the same as you. GoJoe, can we get a parley on this? How much would a $100 parlay pay out? 3-400?

Google parlay calculator. Doesn't matter now since the Patsies detroited. Would have been over 500 with Philly at -1.5 to -2 at some books. I'm sitting this and last week out of NFL. Ended up losing money on bowls with a combination of a WKY push and TN not covering by 1. I always regret it when I don't do the ML parlays. Lovie had his team motivated and coached up again didn't he - just happy to be there, Cal covers by 9 - no action on that game for me.

I had to do a search for what u meant, silly, and i guess art bryant is a famous BBQ place in KC? So I suppose andy reid goes there 3-4x a week, at least. Not sure what KC's bbq 'style' is, maybe similar to Texas but more emphasis on wet bbq with sweet sauces, and a focus on ribs rather than brisket. I do love me some KC Masterpiece, it's like sweet baby rays but not so sweet or corn syrupy and a little more spice to it.

We know now that next weeks Chiefs vs. Texans matchup will be as much a battle of bar-b-q as much as a contest of teams.
Problem is KC doesn’t really have a signature ‘style’ for smoked beast, the KC bar-b-q lineup borrowing from smokehouse playbooks throughout the U.S.
Bryant’s original sauce isn’t sweet at all, it’s kinda vinegary and very spicy.
Gates original sauce is sweeter.
(The two are the traditional big competitors on the MO side of the state line.)

Other notable KC barbecue joints are Joe’s KCBarbecue, Quick’s 7th Street, and Rosedale being the most notable 3 on the KS side.
On the MO side — in addition to the aforementioned Bryant’s and Gate’s — are Jackstack, LC’s, BB’s Lawnside, and Sneed’s.
And of course dozens of other spots.

IMHO the best is actually Sneed’s, wayyy down in the corner of KCMO’s southernmost suburb of Belton.
It doesn’t get more talk only because it takes so damn long to get there from anywhere. Def worth it though!

SMOKE’EM CHIEF’NS!!!

You guys think Brady is done now?
I heard he already sold his house in NE :)

NE offense was just a joke the whole season then loosing against QB Tannerhill....

Heh, well i do consider myself an expert in food. Eating it, at least, as my ever expanding waistline would attest to.

Texans came through big time in the 2nd half. Josh allen was balling early but was really shaky late. He had a nice stretch during the season where he took care of the ball really well, this game he was almost trying to give it away to the texans. He's a young player though, and has improved as a passer every year, so I think the bills will continue to have a bright future.

U sound like a true KC bbq aficionado. Im going to have to check out if they sell gates or bryant's sauces at any of the grocery stores around chicago. Ive had a hankering for some ribs, oven baked at low temp wrapped in foil with some liquid smoke, then finished with a sauce under the broiler sounds ideal. Some beans and fries and bread on the side. Do u have any good rub recipes, or just the standard brown sugar, coarse salt, black pepper, paprika will do?

I actually think the chiefs have the best chance of any team to beat the ravens at baltimore. They beat them once already, that was before they got marcus peters tho. Still, that will be a great game, the two most recent mvp's going against each other.

Of course, chiefs have to get past the texans first. I'd say KC should beat them pretty handily, even with jj watt back, but that deshaun watson is capable of some pretty spectacular plays, like he did against the bills he could almost singlehandedly win the game himself.

I was going to ask if you bet any of the college games, Joe. Yeah, best to avoid betting any IL college football games, theyre just so unpredictable, the only predictable thing is that you'll end up disappointed.

What do you think about the LSU-Clemson national championship game? I think LSU opened up as 3pt favorites (-3), and the line moved to -5? I think clemson has a more than decent chance to keep it close or even outright win, trevor lawrence is like watson, just can put a team on his back and will a team to victory...

I think brady will stay. He doesnt want to retire, he's said for years now he wants to play till he's 45, he's 42 now. And I cant imagine him going to another team even though he's a free agent and is selling his house. What other team could offer him the same chance at winning? Any other top 10 team already has an established QB they want to stick with. But yknow, only he knows what he wants to do, maybe he'll shock the world, go play for the bears or something. :)

You'll find Gates. Meh. Rays is coloring and ketchup, and a cheap one at that. Their money goes to product placement at the stores. The KC's sauces changed up the recipe a few times to cheapen it - it's just a name to profit off of. They have too much of something. Curley's is great especially mixed with BBQ and hot sauces. It's been sold so many times, the present owner thinks Curley invented the sauce four years after his death in 1951. His wife the actual inventor was written out of the story after her death in 2013. Searching amazon, I see that Fieri guy has a line of sauces with his likeness on the label, like that's the important thing. I wouldn't be caught dead buying it.

Pig shoulder in the oven no pictures it's just a pig's shoulder with rub on it. All KC-style all the time on everything here, can't imagine why anyone would want it different. Some hot sauce in it but it's not hot.

If it wasn't for the CFB season I never could have afforded to lose money on NFL. I won money on IL once, then lost the next game. When I talk shit about a team it's because I lost money on them.

The Ohio State game might have been a preview of the big game. Clemson could have lost a 5-game series with OSU, but in the end they had enough defense to win and enough offense to keep up. LSU doesn't have OSU's defense and Oklahoma didn't have any all year.

I've been waiting for the spread to get bigger. It might be like the Saints-Vikings game where there was value built into the dog because of the last 2 game results for each. If VI has it right, a lot of money is predictably coming on the LSU spread - but in most places the spread isn't moving and where it is moving it's going the wrong way - that's not a good sign for LSU. That's the line movement at Wynn at -4 and briefly -3 at Caesars, probably because of Clemson whales because they take whale wagers. I suspect the public prefers LSU but Vegas is afraid of getting sharp money on Clemson if they move the line. It's hard to bet against either team but if LSU went to -7 I'd join the crowd running to the book, though I think Clemson wins if they get zebra love and don't make mistakes.

I'm not sure the Patsies let Brady go - what better options do they have - but he's done if they do. He's no Joe Montana, who was still a fucking gunslinger with KC. It would be best if he says he hurt his arm and can't play any more.

I say ravens vs 49s too but these past games have been unpredictable to me so I dunno.i don't see Vikings beating 49s but I dunno either.i can maybe see Packers beating Seahawks only cause Rodgers might pull another miracle hailmarry out of his ass

Heh, I get why people dislike Brady, Hawk, but at least he can stand in the pocket and complete a 10 yard pass to his 3rd or 4th read on a play. In fact, he's still one of the best in the league at it. With him under center the bears probably would have won championships in 2006 and 2011, with their league best defense at the time, and probably last year also. He's looked uncharacteristically bad this year though, so even if he does leave not sure if he can still elevate a team's offense anymore.

Now that Pats-Saints is no longer a possibility, people think a ravens-niners superbowl is the most likely pairing? A rematch of the Harbaugh bowl from 2012, well Jim is coaching college at Michigan now.
I'll go with Chiefs and Niners. Or maybe chiefs and packers, niners are still pretty young and shanahan is a great playcaller but i still remember him choking away a 25pt lead in the superbowl with the falcons. Then again, packers got dominated last time they played at San Fran, and even though rodgers grew up there he seems to suck when he plays in california. Eh, still not sure...

Ah Joe, seems like you have some bbq knowledge as well. Is there anything you don't have knowledge of? :)
Never heard of Curley's but sounds good, I like a nice spicy sauce, but not too much heat, more 'bite' than heat if that makes sense.

I do like a nice pork butt, was actually looking at some asian style pork butt recipes last night that some foodies raved about.

https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/12197-momofukus-bo-ssam
You can cook it with whole cloves of garlic in the pan juices, which sounds like it'll make some fire au jus.

Strangely enough it's been pretty darn warm around here for January so maybe i can fire up the cooker this week instead of using the oven.

That's some in-depth research you did on the Clemson-LSU line. It's hard to figure out what's going to happen, I agree OK had a terrible defense for a playoff team, but clemson benefited from some questionable ref calls against OSU. I still think Clemson covers or outright wins, but that's my unscientific 'this kid looks like a winner' opinion.

Ur right the Pats have no QB ready to take over for brady, that stidham kid looked pretty terrible when he got a few garbage time snaps. Maybe they draft of sign a free agent QB if brady leaves. The whole Montana going to KC thing reminded me of Favre leaving green bay when rodgers took over. Basically a legendary but aging QB had to leave to make room for the future best QB in the league but still had plenty of juice in his arm to help bad teams win games. Favre was good with the jets before being hurt, and had a great year with the vikings almost leading them to the superbowl. Montana led KC to some good years in the 90s, and it wasnt till Reid and Mahomes came in that they've gotten back to or surpassed that level.

To me it's not a question if Brady is good or not.i just don't like him.just like I don't like Bret Farve.Farve came pretty close to being on the Bears but went to Minnesota instead. Now Farve was a real prick.

I can see the Chiefs going too.speaking of Farve,I saw him all buddy buddy with Mahomes a little while back.i bet that's where he learned that sideways pass he's gotten good at

Packers v Ravens in SB, IMO.

Brady will be back Bill will be back , Pats will win the East cause it's bad.

Brady needs help now, he is 42. No longer can he win with "Joe Blow Nobody" surrounding him.

I respect that, some football fans dont just like a certain player for whatever reason, we all have different opinions, and ur hardly the only one who dislikes brady. That would have been a real trip to see favre in a bears uniform, Hawk. Not sure how i would have felt about it, but the vikings seemed to have gotten over this dislike pretty quick, especially when he had a 30td season for them.

So we got one vote for the packers in the superbowl. Alright, i can see that if they can get past the niners, assuming the niners beat the vikings. And assuming the packers can beat the seahawks, no easy task. Hawks defense is playing pretty well and marshawn lynch has kept their run game respectable, if not very efficient (think he's getting like 1 yard a carry, lol, but has scored a td each game he's played).

Yup, im thinking brady will be back in new england, he's had too much history and success there for it to really make sense to go anywhere else. Is there a team out there with good talent that just needs a competent QB to take them to the next level? Maybe the bears, maybe denver? Or indy? Tampa? Tampa's defense is pretty bad but played better later in the season. Every other good team or potentially good team already has a QB that they're invested in either with a big contract or a high draft pick.

But i agree the pats need to get better talent around him. No gronk this year, edelman played hurt most of the year, they had antonio brown and josh gordon but lost both during the year; well gordon got traded and brown went nuts. Michel took a big step back this year, james white and burkhead were still productive tho. Nkeal harry flashed some potential but as a rookie doesnt have that rapport with brady yet, but maybe next year he'll be ready to step in as a #1 receiver. Pats spent a 2nd rd pick for sanu but he never really got established, maybe he'll develop chemistry with brady next season also. And we'll see what they do in the draft and free agency, they seem to do well with castoffs from other teams. Legarrette blount had and 18 td season for them in 2016, wes welker and randy moss had great careers with the pats after being traded to them. They might lose their 1st rd pick this year with the bengals videotaping incident, though, we'll see...

Serious question- Would other teams really want Brady at this point? I mean, he's not gonna come cheap, and by his own admission, he's got 3,4 more seasons in him, tops. Not too mention more likelihood of injury as he starts to slow down. How would Brady be a good deal for anybody but the Pats?

Ur spot on, Pop, last weekend all featured close games, 2 went to overtime and all were within one score at the end. Hopefully the divisional round will be equally as competitive.

Speaking of which, if our resident gambling expert Gojoe is around, i think historically the home teams in the divisional round almost always win. Like 90% of the time home teams win in the 2nd round of the nfl playoffs. So maybe parlay that to some easy money? Hawk, call ur bookie quick!

That's a good question Jelly. Brady just had his worst year statistically since his 2nd or 3rd year in the league. He just looked off all year, missing throws he normally makes. I think he's been dealing with an elbow injury this year, especially late in the season he'd have a big wrap on his throwing elbow after games. So maybe he comes back fully healthy he'll have his usual elite accuracy. Plus he's so competitive i think all the talk of him being washed up will just motivate him to dominate again next year, like lebron this year when he missed the playoffs and played terrible defense last year.

Who's going to want him? Who's going to need a QB next year? Maybe raiders, broncos, chargers, bears, bucs, bengals (they'll probably draft joe burrow though), colts? Every other team has a QB theyre paying a bunch of money to or a young QB they want to develop. The raiders might be interesting, brady grew up in NorCal as a niners fan but also was exposed to raiders fandom back then (think they moved back to oakland when brady graduated high school), and playing in vegas might be a trip.

Chargers in LA might be a thing, if he and giselle want to establish a high profile media presence (he to promote his T12 lifestyle, her to promote whatever fashion or interior design or makeup she's into), what better location than hollywood?

i think brady still has some tread left and could really help the right team take it to the next level
/but im not sure his time in NE is over but we will see; also whats goign to happen to b.belickick
like baba' said, a few teams are that one piece away from being contenders
/im leaning towards denver or the chargers
i doubt he will be willing to play for a team that is in total rebuild mode but imagine if you put tom brady under center for the bears
with that defense that would be a huge boost, same goes for denver and la'cocs
i tihnk the raiders have a lot of draft capital and so do the bengals so they are probably going to be looking at drafting one of the hot young gunslingers coming out this year
/i can see nyg or wash being willing to trade down thoe unless there is soemone they really want in the draft
im sure this weekends games will be just as good as last weekends games and i cant wait for the action

our resident gambling expert Gojoe

I guess that's better than gambling degenerate. I'm trying to get you all to come over to the dark side. It's lonely over here. You will find playoff records at
https://www.vegasinsider.com/nfl/history/playoffs/2019/
and you see there is a difference between winning and covering. Last year was the year for home winners but it's not always like that.

Even if you put KC and Baltimore on the same parlay to win, you have to risk $100 to get maybe $50 and maybe that's a winning formula but it just rubs me the wrong way. Plus, Pain Inside Her of the bettheboard podcast recommended that pick as the best bet this week and he's always wrong. Like I said when I started this gambling thing, you may want to make your picks on paper first to prove yourself and see if it's a good idea to lay your money down with your ideas.

Will Chargers fan buy seat licenses to watch Brady throw 10-15 yard wobblers?
