New extraction technique? Rosin tech?

hahaha!

the hmk press is cheaper but you can't get the same amount of force. also yes, i can see eventual carpal tunnel or tennis elbow from using it all day every day.

i had the same issue with having to stand on the arbor press arm. the bottle jack has some major advantages at least among the cheaper press options.

...still waiting on my David Bowie press ringo...

Ahhhh yes the love of motorcycles, I'm a fan myself, have a dedicated garage we call the "motorcycle den." Lmfao when I got my little 500 ninja a long time ago, it was so much fun, more like a glorified scooter but the small size and lack of weight makes the corners so much fun! I used every excuse I could to ride "oh I think I left the iron on, gotta run home." "But you don't even own an iron." "Shutup! *slap*."

And now back to talking about Rosin, I have been using up the old kief i had, still using the flat iron and vice and was pretty happy with the yield 30-40%. Soon there will be some fresh material, some picking Sunfire's brain and a new larger press, I love this time of year...

2 engineers + asme welder + lots of light dep R&D = trying my hardest to get you a press by novemeber.

You will not be forgotten, production model #1 is going express mail to your doorstep. This shit is crazy and has been a huge journey of self education, there's a lot more then just a devil in the details.

Heady blunts is correct. Smaller scale r&d doesn't work so well cause once you upscale, the physics change, sucks a lot when a qp of kief explodes everywhere.

Slow and easy - rainbows, puppy dogs, kittens, fresh nugs and cookies!

Roji - the game has come a long way from t shirt presses.

Cyphaman - 240 at high pressure is upper limit for sure! I got the burn smell there. I try to stay under 220. 160 with some mlisture is clutch for the terp sauce! 2 presses might be appropriate, first for dabbing, second for decarb and eating.

HMK - lmao Thanks for not giving me special treatment hehhehe!

I got a couple PMs asking for a parts list so I'll post it here if that's OK.

Here's the post (albeit a joke) about how it works. https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=6985389&postcount=1141

Harbor Freight for the press. No mods required. Assemble per directions. http://www.harborfreight.com/6-ton-a-frame-bench-shop-press-1666.html

$79 retail but often on sale or use the 20% off coupon and get it for about $69.

Check out the picture. It comes with 2 arbor plates. I use them on top of and underneath the aluminum plates.

Aluminum plates. Ebay. I use the 6" x 6" x .250" but many sizes are available. You might even try steel instead of aluminum. I chose aluminum because it heats up quickly but Sunny pointed out that they cool faster as well so steel might be better for production size runs. Here's an example of the plates I used. http://www.ebay.com/itm/250-1-4-Mil...-6061-6-x-6-/281364050626?hash=item41829ab2c2

but any eBay search of "aluminum plate" 0250" or whatever thickness you choose will get you what you want. $10 to $15 for the plates.

For heating elements I used the PTC thermistor heaters here....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/110V-100W-P...Temperature-/181603472558?hash=item2a486914ae

Watch when buying the PTCs because they come in many flavors. I use the 110 volt 100 watt version. About $20. More if you don't buy direct from China. Shipping was only a couple weeks.

All you do is attach a plug to those 2 wires and plug it into a power strip. I use 4 of them. 2 on top and 2 on the bottom. I have not tested low temp presses yet so I will attempt to use a dimmer switch or fan dimmer on the power strip to control the temperature.

I use this for monitoring temp. I just put the probe between the plates during heatup and read the temp. Cheap but, it seems to work better than the laser thermometers. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-H-9283-...-High-and-Low-Temperature-Alarm-/111538561927

There it is. About $100. I'll post a couple pics of mine (without the rock and roll add-ons LOL) so you can see how I have the arbor plates and aluminum plates set up.

The sun is up. The sky is blue. My motorcycle is calling me. Gig last night. Totally hung over. Gonna feel real nice at 90F out there today.

Ringodoggie this is real sweet man, Thanks for dropping some sweet links, man if those plates are holding up well then I am going to try it out, I want toget a 10 or 20 ton hydraulic going for shits n giggs. will be my last investment for a while since ivejumped on every bandwagon so far and at this point, collecting rosin presses, is just as fun as using them ! lol but not really..

nice work ! Ringodoggie for prez!

edit: how would you recommend attaching the heating plates to the rod or do you? Thanks for the useful tips man, Im just going to get some steel maybe aluminum and try to rig up something similar with my digital temp controller I had for my Chamber.

try not to over think it homie, If your goal is to release a press then you need to start thinking about differentiating yourself from the rest and getting it out NOW before every tweak and turn is already thought up and in production! its pretty basic repeatable science that can be achieved many ways so people with that basic understanding are left crying out for ways to increase their production, yields and lower costs! this is where some of those pressing pounds of flowers and kief will have an advantage over the rest. hit em with a way to do all 3 in record Time and youre on your way... Rosin technologies press is cool....but its so overpriced for what it is. like wow, leaves room for lots of competition imo.

Small batches can be scaled up for production, if all of the variables are taken into consideration... think of Hashtodamas, his press is basically a scaled up version of the rosin technologies...and it works awesome, keeping in mind all of the tips and tricks we know about filtersize vs heat platens etc...

but when cats start using plates that are 5 to 10x as big as their filtration medium..even with lower temps. they start getting multicolored decarbed stuff lol I like mine with that golden clarity ;)

Cyphaman - it's so much more difficult than you might think. There's so many little details that actually have nothing to do with technique or design. I'm mostly just scared to be another rosinator incident, would suck a lot to rip into full scale production then find out you missed some huge and crucial concepts.

It all looks simple enough on the surface, but when you actually get into it, every little detail adds time an money. I wish it were easier to do it right, good things take time.

Heady blunts - ahahahah that's funny you saw the same thing. I was talking with ash about that last night. Did you see his comment about "r&d". It was totally focused at ash an I ahhhaha! Funny how once you know what's up, you can see pics of people's paper after presses and tell they were using way too high of heat. All that paper too, god damn!

Bigger isn't always better, I have other shit to do then sit there and collect all those little droplets and thinness stretches of super dark rosin. Flower presses shouldn't look like that, maybe they are buying up last year's outdoor from cali lol! The rednecks like to cure their flowers over summer in a trash bag hidden out in the woods. Those black trich heads are where it's at apparently.

Francy 420 - good timing with those pics, you just helped prove my point, look at those lovely golden flower presses. 25u bubble is pretty dirty, I'd be stoked for any rosin off thay bag regardless of color. I actually stopped using the 25u altogether cause its mostly decapitated stalks and takes forever to drain .

Yeah I always get darker rosin from the 160u, 45u, and 25u bubble. While the 120-73u produces golden goodness. Yes obviously due to contaminant. I have also found contaminant piles of dry sift to turn out greenish. I would almost never press grade "A" sift though.

@Sunfire I know you said if anyone had interest in commercial production to give you a pm. Laugh all you want I can't figure out how to pm you. I don't want to get to into details, but am moving to Sacramento area from Wisconsin to help start am MMJ business. They are bringing me out to do extractions and want to focus on rosin. Hit me up if you feel like helping otherwise I totally get you are a busy man. I am serious not a troll or joker.

Lol silly bear, you need 50 posts to pm heheheh, almost there!!!

Whoa whoa whoa I never said to pm me if you want to get into "commercial production" did i? Fuck I gotta lay off the dabs...?

To be honest, ash and I also discussed this last night. Commercial rosin production is a little funny at this point, cause you sacrafice quality for quantity. Big low temp presses get super hard to manage without blowout after 2 gram per square inch load density. I got this crazy expensive magic material that's twice as strong as ss mesh, and even that shit can't handle 3 grams per square inch at 1500 psi and 150F. Sadly one has to bump up the temps and increment the pressure which makes things a little less terpy and more decarbed, but return rate goes up hahaha!

Politics, gardening, and rosin research have my hands tied but I can help when I can. Right now though my techniques and concepts are being saved for the release of the press. What time frame are you talking ablut?

Insure hope you homies in sac are paying attention to what's happening at the capital right now. Could be a terrible time to start up any mmj business. We all might get a huge shafting from the politicians and evil big business folk who are aiming to monopolize the market if the fucken patients don't start getting off their lazy asses and doing something about it. In all of california, there literally only ablut two dozen people who are constantly down at the capital trying to slap senator's straight. Apparently everyone likes the idea of being shut down and replaced.

I hear ya with the laws but you gotta jump in when you can. We have the $ backing so now is my time to jump. good or bad it is the move I need to make to get into things. my skills are being wasted up here in Wisco.

Maybe you didn't really say pm you for commercial production but I guess for press release details. I am moving Sept. 26 but obviously have lots to do before up and running for good. All licenses are filed, and locations for grows on lock down. We are lucky in that we have some serious large wholesale connects up north, and co-ops down south that want product so either way we will be selling something. lol. Don't want to get too detailed in here if you catch my drift. We are actually registered out of Tracy CA. Not Sac. And I will be living in Folsom.
