New extraction technique? Rosin tech?

you can get bags from a variety of places. i have a few friends in the US who have good things to say about rosinevolution

https://rosinevolution.com/product-category/screen-bags/

the size of the bags will depend on the size of the plates you're using. the bigger press i use is a friend's and it has 3x5 plates. he has a 2x4 prepress so we use 2x4.5 bags.

i haven't tried squishing any hash on my little desktop press yet, but i do plan to... at some point. i grabbed some reusable 25µ pressing screens for that. i'm gonna have to find a decent prepress as well.

micron size of the bags is usually determined by what you're squishing.

~60-120µ are popular for flower
~25-60µ are popular for hash, kief, sift, whatever

the video i posted in my last post is a decent reference for start to finish hash squishing.

So how can I go about using drysift to get rosin???

I only really make rosin with dry sift anymore. I sift through 220 screen then clean up with 160. Then I use a 37 micron press bag, I prefer Ryzenberg bags off Amazon. Alot of times I'll stick a 120 press bag over the 37 to keep from having any blowouts. Then I press at 160f slowly ramping up pressure until max(6 ton). I let it at max for 90 seconds. Done deal.

So the dabpress showed up and a little squishing of some Strawberry Bannana at 210 , some gathering of nice amber sticky off the parch - and voila! Cool!

So I'm asking myself what now? I put the scrapings on a spoon, heated and watched the bubbles, then smeared onto a zigzag and twisted a doob. I know, what's the point but this is a 'speriment. Not bad.

So I suppose a handheld crucible is in order now. I can see this being good for hanging out down by the pond.

Thanks ICMAG. And especially thanks Mr. Ringodoggie and his $369 countertop all-in-one rec. It's perfect for a solo squish.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]For portable 'coil based' vape I like my Yocan Evolve Plus XL. For 'quartz cup' I like my Longmada Motar.

I am jealous cause my squeezins are sticky, gooey, and a real pain to handle. Winterizing didn't help but it tasted a lot cleaner. I squish at 220 currently, 160 next. 160 didn't make much oil at all so the temp went up to 240. Squishing with more pressure also. The results were very light and still runny / thin even after putting the parchment in the freezer. Impossible to collect off the parchment. Would be perfect for a "reefer" if it was a paper that was soaked instead of that Reynolds parchment.

Thank dawg for everclear and glass jars to fix mistakes. All these mistakes are fixable by stuffing the gooy parchment in the jar with some everclear to dissolve the goodness (and probably whatever is on the parchment). Freeze, filter, and boil that down in an oil bath and now there is a bunch of gooey in my cup. At least I can dab or make a "reefer' (D. Gold term described in ch 9). which is how I was first introduced to oil back in 73 or so.

Am I correct in thinking I can dissolve and boil off repeatedly with Etol, as this is how I am managing cleanup of oil goo and mistakes by always having a jar to put the soakings. Same with a jar with ISO for cleaning the dab pen.

So wandering around the web looking for tips I ran across this old hair straightener article from Portland. What a hippy hangout cause they can put articles like this in... LOL

"and because this doesn't involve an explosive gas under high pressure, it eliminates the danger of blowing up your fucking house."

OK gentlemen, I seek your guidance...

I'm finally dipping my toe into extracts. (Or back into them I should say, having seen alot of honey/hash oil in my day and a whole fucking lot of Afghani brick. But that was decades ago.)

I'm slowly moving towards more 'vertical integration' in what I do. I have a trusted friend that has good experience in pressing rosin--solventless of course. I'm going to spend more time getting him trim and eventually I think I'll move into grows that go entirely to him.

So what I need to learn right now is how to optimize my sourcing and handling of both scissor trim and machine trim. Most of it is already pretty dry--but it's all from this year. I imagine I want to get it as fresh as possible...do I want to freeze it? Are machine and scissor interchangeable? All trim is from grows I'm close to and know the quality of...

I thank you in advance for any and all education...

I think most people will suggest that you dry ice the trim and press the dry sift, rather than pressing leaves and trim.

i certainly wouldnt. Dry ice will result in a lot more plant matter and undesirables which taint the rosin. Fresh frozen trim washed into bubble, and microplaned, (freeze dried preferably) makes the best rosin ive seen. Really clean dry sift (90%+) will make a great rosin also.

Machine trim residue is poor quality starting material and more suited for ethanol extraction. Scissor trim makes good bubble if it's clean and handled well (and a suitable strain as HMK wisely points out).

Dry ice can yield gold, it's all down to the operator.

I’m a fan of dry sift, tumble, wrap, and press clean and simple. The only problem is the rosin is a bit dark...

For me the color is dependent on strain. my silver jones comes back really light colored where as my 24kt comes back darkest. I dont make rosin unless im using double sifted keif anymore.
