Mikell, we all must at least try to think of others as much as we think of ourselves. We might think others are stupid or willfully ignorant or lazy or many other negative things but 'sarcastic asshole' is the worst of the worst. I'm not trying to be cruel... just being as relentlessly and coldly, "I don't give a shit what you think", as you seem to be.

If we never even try to improve our rude hurtful conduct then what does that make us? Just because we tell others, "Yeah, I was born a shit-bag, so live with it mutherfuckers", doesn't work in the real world. Or haven't you noticed many people hate your guts and/or have virtually no respect for you as a person?

Why not just TRY a little harder to be decent to others? You might be surprised how easy that can be and you might accumulate a few friends you can actually like and trust. I know damn-well you're actually a very good person. Why push others away so relentlessly?

I'm going to take this and mix it with some Everclear. Then, I'm going to run it through a Buchner funnel with a double coffee filter.

Am I crazy to expect it to come out lighter?

I mean, it already has a beautiful amber color as you can see. But, I thought filtering it might clear it up even more.

I'm waiting for my vacuum pump or I would do it now.

I am waiting for a vac. I tried a few things like a brake bleeder and a vacuum cleaner but nothing is working great.

I ordered a water driven aspirator pump the other day. Should be here soon. Hopefully, that will work.

I ran a test on some old hash I had. It was hash I fucked up trying to press it and it turned to flakes of shit. So, I put it in some Everclear a few days ago and today I ran it all through the funnel with a simple coffee filter.

I used the vacuum pump from my old ShatterVac that I never use any more. It worked great. The vacuum is adjustable so I was able to get it just perfect.

I must admit, I didn't get the results I thought I would. The funnel worked great but the test results themselves are odd.

I ran a Duquenois on both the goop left behind in the filter and the Everclear mix.

I expected the goop left behind to be garbage and the Everclear mix to be strong. It was the opposite.

How cum?

We're only talking about 10ml of alcohol so I don't think I have to worry about fumes, do I?

It really is not advisable to use a hot plate with ethanol, but I have certainly done it in the past. Not because of vapors (which take a lot to ignite) but because the liquid ethanol could touch the plate (or much hotter elements underneath) and flash fire which could then ignite vapor as well. A heating pad has elements that are probably safer than a hot plate.

When I make edibles, I just use a fondue pot (precise temp settings) with hot oil and then place a glass beaker with final ethanol extraction inside (double boiler style) to do a purge and decarb. I set oil to 255 and typically boil off 100-200ml (~10 minutes) of ethanol using only kitchen vent hood to remove vapors. The fondue pot is directly underneath vent hood.

A HVAC pump works good, but you still should have a trap of some sort between the filter and pump to catch any liquid that could get sucked in. A cold trap will condense any ethanol vapor as well.

If you still have "goop", then perhaps you did not allow the ethanol enough time to dissolve all of the compounds? If you still have cannabinoids in filtered material, then you need to repeat the process with a longer soak. Did you freeze material and ethanol prior to extraction? Your post-filter material should appear dry if properly frozen, as all of water is locked out. It certainly could return to goop form when warmed if it has a higher water content. Dry ice is your best friend with etoh for clean extractions. I leave my material exposed to etoh upwards of an hour, but I keep the temps at an average of -50C (-70C to -30C during whole filter cycle).

EDIT - Given that this a rosin thread, I honestly don't know what the moisture content of your starting material is. Basic premise of working with ethanol is that you want as little water as possible in material getting extracted. What are you trying to do with the end result (vape, edible)?

Couple back at ya.... Heating Pad?? I did a search of heating pad and found nothing but therapeutic type stuff. Laboratory Heating Pad didn't yield much better. Reptile heating pad? Doubtful it gets 150*. So, what kind of heating pad are you talking about?

As for the goop. It was some low grade bubble hash that I tried to press in my rosin press and destroyed it. I put the remains in Everclear a couple days ago. This was all more to learn how to use the Buchner Funnel and to see if the vacuum would work and and and.....

The goop that was left was actually very dry. Almost "powdery wet" if that makes any sense.

Wasn't 2 days long enough to soak?

Now that I am comfortable with the equipment, here is what I plan to do.......

I just took some ugly black tar looking rosin that I pressed from dried and cured pot. The pot is not very old but it was as dry as I ever get my pot. I keep my stuff at about 50 - 55% RH. Anyway, I took about a half gram and mixed it with 10ml of Everclear.

When this is mixed, I am going to run it through a filter and see what pees and what poops.

What's going to be in the filter? What's going to be in the receptor jar?

And, when I evap all the Everclear, what do I have left?

It would be great if the stuff I have left would go into a cartridge to be vaped.

I more expect it will be like rosin and have to be vaped on a nail or similar.

Really just trying to learn how to clean up rosin the best I can within the scope of skills and equipment that I have available.
