New extraction technique? Rosin tech?

what were the results^? .........

However, I think it is very strain dependent.

The results were very high THC in the solvent that passed through the filter and very low THC on the material that was trapped by the filter.

I am absolutely convinced that it is strain dependent. I have been struggling for that awesome golden rosin for 2 years since we started this turd hunt. All of a sudden, nothing different (except strain)and.... boom, golden, juicy rosin.

It is most definitely strain dependent.

I wonder if the bubble hash made from this strain would be light brown vs dark brown or black. I'll screen a little and see what the sift looks like. Sure wish I had easy access to dry ice.

You buy the diameter that fits your buchner. Some sizes are cheaper than others, and you might want to buy a bigger buchner just to make it easier (and cheaper) to work with commercial filters.

Wow, no shit. Why the fuck are the 32mm filters 5x more expensive than larger sizes. Cocksuckers knew I bought a 32mm funnel. Life hates me. LOL

But, I will endeavor to persevere. I'll buy a 1-1/4" hole punch and make my own. LOL

I ASSume that since my funnel is a 32mm that I want to purchase 32mm filters.

Thanks

Cutting your own is actually a good idea for the smaller buchner. You could get 4x per 70mm (400 total) for $15 - https://www.amazon.com/Whatman-1001-070-Quantitative-Circles-Diameter/dp/B00394F982/

Whatman also sells sheets I can punch from.

What range of micron rating would I want. I imagine 100u to 20u.

If you are using a solvent like alcohol, lower is better. #5 is 2.5 micron. #1 is 11 micron. #4 is 20 micron. 20 micron would be absolute maximum, but #1 seems to be the most commonly used lab filter. It is also common to filter with a higher micron first and then re-filter with lower micron (like 0.22um syringe filter) second.

Thanks bud. I am ordering some as we speak.

Here is a Time-Life history in Pictures of Black Tar Rosin.....

Starts out with an ugly black tar that no one wants and Mikell will make fun of you for it.......

Pic 2 is the black tar in 10ml of Everclear for a few days. As you can see, there is definitely some separation and when I shake it (pic 3) you can see the white poop floating around. I have no idea what that is. Looks like paper. Could it be parchment that came off with the rosin?

Pic 4 is the Buchner funnel setup in action.

When I was done, the funnel and the flask were really cold. Why?

Pics 5 and 6 are what was left in the filter and what's in the flask.

Pic 7 shows it spread out on Pyrex on the heating plate.

Last few pics show the result, dry on the Pyrex.

And........ when collected is still black tar that no one wants and Mikell will make fun of you for.

WTF!!!

Other than having fun with the new funnel, what, exactly, did I do here?

LMAO

Black tar to black tar.

Truth is, what's left behind in the filter looks better. LMAO

I could run THC tests on these but I'm not sure it's worth the bother.

I guess you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

I've made that exact tar.

There are ways of improving colour. Never tried them and I suspect WFF can give a better explanation than my guesswork.

Since you did a room temp alcohol wash, I think you just dissolved material and did a rough filter pass to remove some non active chunks. I would guess overheated rosin has burned compounds (waxes, fine plant material) with an altered chemistry versus flowers. The reason that you freeze alcohol and material to extract is to prevent water soluble compounds (including a lot of dark color stuff) from getting picked up in the alcohol (which has 5% water at 190 proof). At -20C and below, those compounds and any residual water are largely "locked out". At -50C and colder, you can do extended soaks with no (green or dark) color pickup. Like I said before, dry ice is your best friend when extracting with ethanol.

If you have some more older material, freeze your alcohol (and rosin) as cold as you can, and do a 5 minute quick wash and immediately filter. You need to have your filter ready to go before you wash. See if there is any color difference. You can also do a second and third wash once refrozen for 100% extraction (of cannabinoids). Again, I am not sure if the dark compounds can be avoided at this stage (without much more advanced chemistry techniques, that are way beyond my advice) since you are dealing with rosin. Maybe G.O. Joe or another guru could chime in...

I am looking at freezer options. I have zero availability of dry ice. One place in town sells it and they are wholesale only. I asked a buddy to stop by and pick some up for me and they gave him the third degree about what he was doing with it, why he wanted it, blah blah. Fucking hillbilly ass state.

How about the things that frost glasses. I could set the trap in that. LOL Gotta be some other way to cool it down.

Both the funnel and the flask were almost ice cold when I was done vacuuming. Why were they so cold?

EDIT: Duh, never mind. It's always colder in a vac. Brain fart.

Check out salt and ice mixtures to get lower than 0C. Yep, some interesting things happen in a vacuum. Chemistry is pretty fucking cool!

Yummy... just like making ice cream, eh?

I did take high school chemistry. However, when I was in high school, there were only 9 elements.

We worked on stuff like ..... fire. One of the guys in my class invented the wheel. That was pretty cool. I remember one guy in my class claimed he invented daylight. However, when he died, the daylight kept coming so we figured he was full of shit.

Yeah, I remember those high school days like they were yesterday.

Hey gang..... Tips from Tommy here.

I actually learned this by accident. I work on a sheet of glass. It's my lab table and glass is nice and clean. So, a large part of my lab table is glass covered.

Anyway, I had some of that runny rosin that is so difficult to gather. You try freezing it. You try heating it. You try beating it with spoon...... nothing seems to work.

One such piece of parchment ended up being placed face down on the glass by accident. When I went to lift it from the glass, the rosin stuck firmly to the glass. Hmmm? I placed the parchment back down onto the glass and rubbed it with my fingers to press the rosin against the glass.

A quick rip and the paper came clean off the glass. After that, I just took a razor blade and scraped the glass clean.

Worked like a charm.

Just thought I would pass that on.

Hey gang, quick question... what did we decide was the optimal PSI for pressing flowers?

As I recall it was between 600 and 1000PSI and less for kief and hash.

Also, I have some silk screen material that I used to use for bubble bags before there were bubble bags.. LOL Will that work in my rosin press or is it going to melt all over my plates? I believe that material is polyester isn't it? I would think that would melt real easy. Anyone?

Thanks

Could be nylon or polyester.

Probably wise not to use it unless you can verify. Some nylon has low heat tolerance.

Pretrim the fresh undried buds. We use a freeze dryer after a one to two minute wash in the bubble magic in a cold room. Pure RO ice

Freeze dry the ice wax for one day, then press it at low temps. That's the key
The final product is Live Rosin. The strongest, most terpy thing on the planet. We sell it for 50-120 a gram in California, where good bud is only 120 an ounce now
