New extraction technique? Rosin tech?

Started with a Chinese special and traded for something nice last year. I was going to nag you about a piece you had up on the casting couch a ways back. Kicked that ball down the road awhile. Christmas gift probably.

It just isn't my gig.

If the mail gods come through I'll be smoking some dirty import wrapped up with tobacco by the days end.

That is more what I like.

To each their own.

I like to say that frequently as I have many unhealthy habits.

Thanks for the info Mikell. Hopefully I will have time to do some fresh presses soon. I will try to post some pics and techniques to contribute back to the thread a bit.

Im assuming you removed fan leaves though, and de-stemmed.

Trash leaves for sure. The stems I don't typically waste time on. If its a huge branch I will buck it down, but I wont spend time trying to remove all the wood. Surely you would get a bit higher return without it, but for me its not worth the labor involved.

We puck about 56-60 grams of flowers. Basically weigh it, smash it into the mold, then press it into a puck. Puck gets wrapped with coffee filter, then ptfe, and into the heat press it goes.

Do you notice a difference in quality between prep as you go vs prep then squish?

Open question. Working alone I do the latter and use a weight to keep everything flat.

I am trying to minimize the wear and tear to the press from the heated plates so when I turn it on I am prepared to press non stop. I rarely use the press for more than 10-20 min.

My press is too weak to press flower rosin efficiently so I dont use screens and I dont prepress I simply squish the flowers in small 2 gram clumps, so I really dont press a lot o flowers anymore.

If I prep as I go I make mistakes.

My goal is to learn to make my water hash proper, and focus on water hash rosin. I think hash rosin can test higher thc than flower rosin anyway, yes? no?

will someone please explain solventless thca to me???

i thought it was just an obnoxious new marketing term for autobuddered hash rosin but this recent vid from @icewateroc shows a consistancy ive yet to encounter. ..

there's some chatter about repressing as part of the process in the comments.

Start with budder, the harder the better. Wrap tight in 25 micron, squish between 120 - 130, then repress again at same. Open screen and collect the thca inside

All I've heard.

drysiftfullmelt on IG posts a bit.

I imagine it sells at a premium to solvent derived thca crystal. Which by it's nature has no residue from the initial extraction process..

Typically I work alone, or with 1 helper. More than 1 helper is overkill for my setup.

The most prep I do, is make huge stacks of filter paper, and PTFE cut to size. Very very rarely will the flowers sit around pucked. Usually right out of the mold onto the folding table then into the heat press.

The few times I have had someone make a stack of pucked flowers, I did notice that they slowly expand, as well the RH of the material slowly adjusted to the room they were in. Can't say if it effected quality at all. I do think RH in the material plays a role.

I use drip tech, so as the rosin comes out it drips away from the hot plates instantly and lands on a dab mat sitting on top of cold tile. So I tend to press a lot longer than most people. If the rosin starts to drip a darker color, I simply slide the mat over and make a new puddle. With the long press times, and 1 helper, we can make a new wrapped puck just as we remove the heat pressed one. So even with a stack of pressed pucks I am bottle necked by the time it takes to fully extract a puck.

So many variables to control to really test something. I do make observations from time to time, but its hard to say anything as fact.

I had a sample that tested 77% THCA and 3 % THC ,,, I think at the time I used to press at 82 C , I press at 83-84 C now.

Hi.

Can small hydraulic press use in a small one-room apartment, where I live and sleep? Starts to get tired of d-nail press..

Thanks!

Yep.

Bolted a 10t H frame press to a heavy table. Ignoring the prep area it takes up 20-24sq/ft.

thanks mikell :tiphat:

sunfire put this up on IG yesterday mere hours after i posted here haha.

sunfire_ranch This has been going on as far as I know for well over a year, when i first started doing some testing and experiments wondering wtf i was seeing. Collectively on the artd fb group is where i saw it all get figured out and lots of people participated. Lots of other people have said they discovered it accidently on their own too. Some claiming as far back as two years. Most discovered it from repressing to clean out flower plant matter contaminates. It's not new or a secret. Idk why so many wont share the tech. Repress a stiff budder in tight filtration (25u or less) nice and slow around 140F. The thca crystallites stay inside the filter. Everything else comes out. Once the thca has formed the crystallites ("budder") it's properties change and the melting point is around 180f. Bump the temp up a bit higher than that and you can melt and squeeze out the thca and form an amorphous "shatter" like product. I personally like my terpenoids and cannabinoids together on the nail. I know it's fun to play though, not hating. I just think it's cool in the fact that studies have shown thca to be twice as effective as prescription strength cortisol for treating joint pain and inflammation. I imagine grandma making some bad ass salves all from her back yard garden. Perhaps some people will be upset with me now but come on, cats out of the bag, it's not something that will stay a secret. It was all published in a 10k person rosin fb group, and it's been all over ig the last month. Sharing is caring.

I bought something likes THIS but I'm very low volume here. Mine is old and cosmetically-challenged but works well and was cheap. Temperature is adjustable to lower and higher than I'll ever need. It can press hard enough to rip apart the parchment paper a small bud is sandwiched within.

I think you could have got a electric hydraulic Chinese knock off for around $700

Yours does look well made by the way.

Yes but those are much larger.:) Mine is older and not pretty but it is well-made. I'm extremely low volume so I don't need anything that big. Also, I only paid US$124 delivered for the used vulcanizer.:D

How big are your plates? Ive got the 4x7 and my 10t press isnt cutting it for flower rosin... If my plates were smaller it would probably be just fine.

my prep area is really small and the machine and plates and space I need to press is also roughly 25 sq ft

3x5.

Was thinking of 4x7 on a 20t or a full prefab unit like Elysian/TWGF/etc. I like the idea of a drip setup.

And then I wonder how far I will go in this direction and perhaps the current setup is fine. I am lately more interested in bubble and ethanol.

Thanks.
I mean if the hydraulic oil is somehow toxic, etc.. Or should I stay in mechanical press?

My d-nail press is heavy overloaded, half broken, twisted and it could "blow up" anytime..
