400 is very hot...

What is the math formula for converting your returns. I'm seeing some crazy 90% return claims. All I read is 30%,50%,90%. No one ever explains how they got that %..

He was talking about dabbing at 400 not pressing at 400. I get 25 % the best from bud. 50 % is for bubble hash

I bought a used vulcanizer for $124 delivered. Its dual heated plates are adjustable from 150-450 F. The hefty turn-screw with large wheel will squash the hell out of herb. Mine is similar to the one shown below but older and not as pretty.

OK so I have the correct Math to calculate your Rosin returns.

Rosin weight / flower Weight x 100% =

In my case
20g / 113g x 100= 18% return

Yesterday I made hash with trim and cleaned it today.I got just over 7 grams of clean rosin for 120 grams of trim, thats about 6%. That does not include the stuff I dab as I go and the lowest grade. So 7 grams of fire rosin, and probably 2 grams of ''second grade'' I think some of it has to do with my return with the water hash. I had 12 grams of 24 hours dried hash turned into 7 grams of rosin. Its the best water hash rosin Ive made so far I think. Eventually I hope to stay above 10% of total rosin return with my water hash made with trim.

this should work great for hash but I dont think you will do so good with flower rosin

As long as you can get 200f and at least 3 tons of pressure you wont have any prob getting Rosin. I agree that will do much better then a hair straightener.

I don't think the vulcanizer will press harder than about a ton but I thought that to be more than enough... far more than hand-squeezing a hair straightener. Is three tons of pressure really necessary? Will one ton be enough?

Well I guess you are about to find out. You could always run a cheater bar through the crank wheel and get a little more torque.

Its always worth a try, especially if you got a good deal

Curling irons don't have the best yield.

for flower rosin I take my press up to 8 tons and the pucks are still soft, and full of oil... I wish I had a 20 tons... for hash you can get most of it with very little pressure, but I do squeeze the puck to 8 ton to get as much as I can out, on the final press.

I have been modifying my press to find a way to prevent my press acting like a heat sink. Temp test prov the heating pad is heating up the top of the unit very close to the set point.. I opened the top plate to find no insulation. It was just the plate with the heating pad screwed to what looks like steal plate. All of this assembly was touching. They only thing still touching are the 4 screws holding the top heat plate to the top steal plate. I added a few pieces of Fiberglass heat sheets between the heat plate and steal plate. I should see the temps much more stable and the top should not get so hot. Its on now will measure temps.

Ok so I have done a lot of temp measurements with the Hight temp insulted sheets installed. Beferoie I had a 110F off set. The display would reed 320f the plates would be 210f. I was losing a lot of heat out the top into the steal plate. Now im getting a 50f off set. Display reads 200f, temps reads 257f. I will start from scratch. Press is off. will wait until the real temp reads 100f turn on the press set to 150f, 180f, 200f, 210f, 220f.. I will have to change the internal offset on the control to 50. I need to do more testing to find the right offset.

At this point I would recommend the heat plates be isolated fro many other metal on your press. I still need to do this to the bottom plate but These idiots in china that made this used rivets to attach the sheet metal covering. They should have used flat head hex head screws for this. I will have to drill them out and put the proper screws in.

I have some runs i could not get the Rosin off the parchment? I do not know why some do this. The Rosin is very oily when I try to collect it it just smears on the parchment .
