New extraction technique? Rosin tech?

We pressed 72 grams of bubble hash, got 46 grms of hash oil. Did 12, 6 gram packets, we use SS screens. Each press averaged 4 grams.

Here's are set up

have you noticed a threshold for grams per press yet? meaning the point where the yields decline as too much material is being worked?:thank you:

No I haven't, the tea bags and the SS screens I have take 6 grams without blowouts due to there size. When we tried 8/10 grams we would get blow outs. We're pressing at 6 ton.

As described above, we use light pressure right off and slowly pump up to the 6 ton. Just mashing to 6 ton we geT blowouts. Have noticed that squishing 4 gram packets the percentage is slightly lower, averaging 2 grams per squish.

Still getting the system dialed as even heat across the plates is a problem, controllers set at 240f and the outside of the plates are only reading around 130 to 165 depending how ya hold the temp gun. Not even sure the temp gun I just bought is worth a rip.

So far we just been making bubble from last seasons dried trim and smalls, and squishing. I ran some fresh frozen complete plant material yesturday and its drying at present, so will see which yields better pressed.

Here's a pick of how are stuff looks, we gather it up by just using the parchment paper and dab it up into a chunk, then roll it out as flat as possible.

Couple shots of it run through a vacuum chamber, oil is real gooey, have to stick it in the freezer for a bit to handle.

you put water back into it going in and out of the freezer, i know sublimation blah blah blah, but condensation due to surface tension over rides the sublimation factors.

looks like you are in a area with high RH yes? vacuum oven to purge water?

Temp gun on shiny plates aint doing shit for you. Put a meat thermometer in between your plates to get a more accurate reading.

^^ I use a digital thermometer. Got it on Amazon with 2 probes for like $10. If you have a rosin press, you must have one of these if you want to quote temps. Otherwise GTFO with the parchment on shiny as if that's at all accurate lol. :)

Whats shakin everyone?! Been busy over in these parts but had a quick question for ya.

Where are you guys sourcing your PTFE? My parchment is starting to bleed through at higher pressures so I want to make the switch to PTFE. What specs am i lookin for and if anyone has links that would be greatly appreciated!

a friend of mine gets all of his ptfe through aqualabs. although I doubt that it's the most cost effective, it's good quality at least.

cool press, and nice table reinforcement ;)

"cool press, and nice table reinforcement"

Hey Whadeezlrg I was looking at that picture and thinking the same thing, very workman like construction, this whole site is like that, a problem is postulated and the hive mind gets going. Whole businesses get going with one idea, everyone jumps on with suggestions and things start to happen.

Attention Rosin Heads

Attention Rosin Heads

Well damn, aint this thread just great! Well done all you serious Rosin heads on schooling us, much appreciated.

I got introduced to Rosin last year at the HQ canna social club, Barcelona. The cats were squishing dry sift into some very tasty rosin, I've been blown away ever since :biggrin::biggrin:

I've decided to build my own press, I'm going to buy a 20 ton hydraulic press next week. I have a few questions though, what is the best size of plates to use? I'm thinking about building mine from scratch with heat cartridges and thermostat, is this advisable, or can I just buy good plates? What about the shape of the plates? I see some of you guys using circular and others using rectangle shaped.

Any help would be fantastic, keep it melty!

Hey HGO - use your press tonnage as a guide and your desired lbs/sq.in of squish

ex; 3x5 = 15 sq.in with a 20T press = 2,666 lbs per square inch which puts you over the 2k lbs/sqin mark and would be good.
4x4 = 2,500
4x5 = 2,000
5x5 = 1,600

you can see the fall off in squishness as you go bigger patens

there are some paten makers out there for the rosin market if you search, the evil bay and elsewhere. most are attempting to charge a premium for the part. In the end only you can determine if the cost justifies the convenience though. I've been mulling over a make/buy decision also

oh, fyi i'm currently planning on 20T for 3x5 patens. may change that before i build it tho

i've been looking at having my own press built as well not sure if i'll go that route but i like the idea of having a smaller benchmount press. for an individual mmj user i don't need to worry about production or anything so i'll likely use a manual hydraulic cylinder pump also.

McKush,

Thank you for the very informative, I just checked flea bay and see some plates build up and all....makes me wanna snap something up quick instead of the hassle of buying heating cartridges and DIY'n everything.

3x5 sounds good to me. Keep us updated on how ya get on with your 20 ton press, I'd like to see.

Thank you,
HGO
