New extraction technique? Rosin tech?

Alright, costco here I come...now back to that press...

do you think its worth 3600$? I think thats cheap for the production it can do, but my buddy thinks the plate is too small..

that press is cute at best, its action is way too fast, completely controless thumbs down there, my main beef with this machine it the air discharge that blasts contaminated air all over a finished product, these issues are why pneumatic is and will always be inferior:tiphat:

Just curious... did your Harbor Freight jack fail? I only ask because mine is leaking and I think I need a new one as well.

the jack it came with sucked right out of the box. i even bled the thing a bit and refilled it but it was a piece of shit.

then i bought an 8 ton replacement. i was a dork and messaged sunfire about it and he was like, "harbor frieght rated that press for 6 tons, would you trust it with more?" that was a really solid point, so i took the 8 ton back and got a 4 ton.

the 4 ton jack worked okay at first but it was a slow decline from there. after a week i knew i'd need to replace it asap.

i thought if a bottle jack is primarily for lifting cars, i should look for a better quality one at a car place.

i called napa auto in my town and they had a 4 ton in stock. $25, same price as harbor freight. it still works perfect several months later. haha meanwhile the harbor freight A-frame is totally wonked out. i was having to resquare it between every press before i got the new DAKE.

I stocked up on 190 proof Everclear awhile back so I was thinking of soaking the chips in cold ethanol. I love edibles but yeah....less green taste is better

i do the same thing with all my wafers!

I'm pretty sure I am sticking to a clamp and hair press for life!

hell ya HMK. it's a perfect design. i just have to produce enough for my patients now. the clamp is still aroud i use it for myself occasionally to quickly test nugs for rosin goodness.

i saw you mention somewhere that you've switched to a diff clamp from the original irwin quickgrip you were using. if you don't mind sharing i'd love to see a pic of your daily driver these days!

ahh very cool. megarawten has one like that i got to see in action. i like how it engages to the same pressure after you set it.

For super dense buds it rocks especially, the extra pressure it gives, and in a pinpoint way instead of all spread out flat, gives a better yield.

LS!

So if you hadn't gotten the Dake is there anything that you can think of that would have made the HF A-frame more worthwhile? Lockwashers? More bolt holes drilled?

i use a hair iron for heat. my old clamp style was a flat, spread out pressure upon it, the new clamp style has a footprint about the size of a quarter at most.

new here, man this thread has me thinking. Not new to rosin extraction but have never gone beyond the good ol hair straightener LOL let's face it, it works ;)
I turn all my larf and trim into water hash first and press small chunks. I don't make it very often, preffering my water hash in a ice bong or snaked into a big doob. But when I wanna get the real good blast on..... say when I'm fishin.... nuthin beats the simplicity of a few dabs of rosin in the pen.
would be cool to DIY a bolted down press just for ease of use and such. I've got some ideas and plenty of cool tools.
in the beginning of the thread a t-shirt press was used. I didn't read all 180+pages but am curious to know what happened to that idea? seemed to work?
well, I'm gonna see what I can make for myself so I can ditch the hair straightener for good :)

hmm ya maybe lock washers. i had squaring issues both on the x-axis and the z-axis if you're facing the frame.

my experience with the HF a-frame right out of the box was that it did not all line up very exactly. for example the side pieces that zack replaced had a 1/4" gap between them at the foot end, and no gap at all at the top after the struts were bolted in. if i were to have loosened those bolts to allow for an even gap (and parallel side brace pieces), the struts would have been loosened, and the top brace would move freely side to side.

hopefully i just got a lemon and you all won't have as many issues.

Hey gang, I am going to try the tea bag thing. Is this the right kind of tea bag to use....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/empty-Tea-B...139498?hash=item2ee289392a:g:2y8AAOxy~dNTJN7V

i use a different brand. it's called "t-sac" and there are 4 sizes. the #1 was my go to for my 2"x3" plates.

i think sunfire tried several brands in a side to side but i dont' remember his results.

Thanks. I just ordered some.

For me, making the pucks is the hardest part. If I can toss the buds in a tea bag and not have to puck, that would be a plus.

Or, I need to find a quicker, easier way to make pucks.

@Grow Tech..not to answer for Heady but I didn't really have any problems with my HF A-Frame (other than the jack failing). Mine squared up pretty well right off. Although, I do remember having to drill something in order to make it fit. Looking back, if I had it to do over, I might buy a better one right off. I just ordered the new jack and it was another $15 so add that to the HF press cost. JMO

are you making pucks with a twisty hash press? that took me forever!

i've been borrowing more advice from sunfire on the pre-pressing and it's been very successful and saving me time.

i experimented at first by filling quart sized ziplock backs full of trim then putting them under a board and standing on it for a while to compress the herb. then i'd cut it into properly sized rectangles with a sharp pair of scissors. i could put the rectangles into the t-sacs, or wrap with a piece of coffee filter paper. they weren't quite tight enough with my trim to press without a filter.

on my 4 ton press with 2"x3" plates i was able to do 2.5--3g per packet before getting blowouts.

last week i finally got a pressing die made. with my new 10t i am going to be using 3"x5" plates. i am expecting to be able to press up to 15g at a time on these. the pre-press die fits the trim easily and compresses it into a perfect even rectangle.

Yes, I've been using the twisty thing but I modified it to use with my arbor press and (just tonight) an old hinge pin (slightly modified) as a ram rod. So, at this point, I think it's about as good as it's going to get.

I have been searching for a puck press like you have but I just can't find anything without doing a custom make. I looked at pill presses (too small) and several other kinds but nothing worked just right.

I am currently pressing less than 1 gram per press but I think my setup would allow much more so I'll move on to 2 or 3 gram packages next try.

I am so jealous of your puck pressing die. LOL

Thanks again for the input.

the pressing die is totally ripped off from sunfire. his isn't welded. i thought i was being cool gettin mine welded but it was like 10 bucks of material and $80 of labor lol. oh well i'd have paid even more for the amount of time it's gonna save me.

he just uses c-clamps.
