Thank you  yup they are just 1-1/2" angle iron to give me more room. Joel's dope ass blocks wouldn't fit in with out them.

I just recently finished it so its still brand new. But if the jack starts to go I will definitely keep that in mind heady.

P.s. I sent you a pm a while back but wasn't sure if u got it

here's a quick video i made last week:

how heady uses the HMK rosin press

this was the press from the video:

View Image

the new HMK press i just made has oversized plates and no wire obstructing the opening so i'll probably end up changing the way i package and fold to better fit the new press.

actually in that oilslick video ganjapharmer posted the biggest thing i noticed was they cooked all the oil, didn't get it to run away from the heating plates in any of the presses they showed lol. i can't overstate the importance of getting the packet packed properly and sized properly for whatever press you're using.

i also got the smallest size of those t-sak teabags i posted a few pages back and they work great! i gotta say tho i think i'm faster rolling the little snakes and wrapping them than i am at stuffing a teabag properly. it takes a bit of finesse to pack the teabag so it is as efficient as a press pressed puck or a snake.
Hey new here, Heady what brand parchment are you using? regency? or beyond gourmet, neither? peace

So, I got about $125 to spend on a press (without platens). Everything I see places that budget in Harbor Freight / Chinese land. For my personal use 6-tons is plenty but I'm wondering if I should go for 12-ton. The 12 ton model 60604 gets decent reviews (better than the 6 ton). I'm wondering what y'all's opinions are on whether I should go big or closer to what I need. Do you think using the 12 ton at partial pressure would allow it to last longer than the 6-ton at full pressure. Of course at this price point neither press has a gauge so it'll be kinda hard to determine how much of the 12 tons i'll be applying.

I have the small table top A-Frame press from Harbor Freight and it is way too much pressure. Like one of the other posters here said earlier, too much pressure stops/curtails the flow.

I never use all the pressure in mine and it's a (I think) 6 ton. My 1 ton arbor press seems to be just about right.

IMO the small A-frame is plenty. In fact, my bottle jack is leaking so I may replace it. If I do, I'll go with the $20 4 ton model.

Yeah 6 tons is more than enough pressure. The first few presses with my 6 ton a-frame I went way to hard and was completely blowing out.

I was used to using a hair straightener and having to squeeze/clamp as hard As possible. Now the press does all the work. I also really like being able to apply a smooth even pressure with the bottle jack.

Gotta love seeing that rosin flow :dance013:

One thing to consider is what type of platen you will be using. The ones that I have seen for sale are really big and that small A frame Harbor Freight press does not have a lot of clearance. One poster had to modify his press to fit the platens (see https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=7345393&postcount=2688 ).

I made my own platens and they fit fine. However, one experiment I did resulted in insufficient clearance on my small press.

Just a heads up in case you have not made a decision on your platens yet.

only time i've seen ribbon wire is for fancy coil builds in e-cig atomizers. not much help but that's all i got

foundation extracts put that press out real early in the game. if you hunt back many months ago in this thread chaos catalunya or ester essence or someone posted the press as it's marketed to other markets and it's marked up significantly.

i personally have avoided pneumatic presses because i like the ability that hydraulic presses afford to gradually increase pressure as a method of preventing blow outs. this also allows me to press a range of materials that may require a degree of finesse, like fresh-squeezed for example.

if you've got a lot of money burning a hole in your pocket there's a ton of 3600 dollar rosin presses available, as well as their 1600 dollar knock off dhgate counterparts.

at this point i'm accustomed to working with 1333+ psi and i'm not looking to go back to a few hundred pounds per square inch like most of those presses offer.

for comparison's sake, that $3600 pneumatic foundation extracts press offers a maximum pressure of 2400 lbs. lets say the plates are 3"x4"---12 square inches.

2400/12 = 200 pounds per square inch (PSI)

top all that off with a cherry: air compressors suck. noisy and maintenance and yuck.

for contrast:

i just bought a 10 ton (that's 20,000 lbs of pressure) hydraulic press for $280 shipped to my door.

i'm gonna buy a set of heated platens because i don't have the skills or time to build one and my engineer friend is difficult to work with lol. greyfox is selling the 3"x4" set for $350 which is in my price range and a very competitive price even compared to DIY.

so, for $630 i'm gonna have a 20,000 lb press that can do 6--12 gram packets per squish at 1666 PSI all day long.

that's more than 8 times the press for almost one sixth the price.

hell yeah heady, I had to bookmark this post for future reference, good shit!

Thanks for all the replys! Next question...has anyone tried pressing water cured herb?... I ask because it would be nice to be able to grind up the squished pucks and the do butter / edibles with them.
The resulting rosin would likely be less flavorful... dilemma dilemma...any thoughts?

I think some, but not all terpenes are water soluble. so a water cure may be a less flavorful rosin....what about making butter with some qwiso of the leftover tree-biscuits? I've always been able to stomach edibles made with hash a lot more than edibles made with green material.

I stocked up on 190 proof Everclear awhile back so I was thinking of soaking the chips in cold ethanol. I love edibles but yeah....less green taste is better

Nice press.

Thanks! I wanna say it was about 65 bucks from harbor freight with their 20% off coupon.

Then the custom copper nickel blocks were $150 shipped from Joel W. who does excellent work. He can be found on fuck combustion. I highly recommend his blocks to anyone looking for a smaller set up.

The heating elements are just two 12 dollar adjustable temperature soldering irons.

Unfortunately after I received The blocks from Joel I realized they wouldn't fit in the press as it came. Apparently everyone who ordered press style blocks from Joel before me had been using larger presses with more working space. For another 20 bucks I bought a piece of angle iron, cut it up and used it to replace the stock side pieces of the press to give me more room.

So in total it came out to around $260 for a very solid personal set up. Although I'm not having any problems yet it sounds like some people are needing to replace their bottle jacks after a while.

I got one of the Rosintech presses and don't even use it. I've been thinking about taking it apart and redoing it.
