New extraction technique? Rosin tech?

Are you loading the bag then folding it? Or are you loading it and cutting it, or what? I haven't had much success with bags, I feel like there's more oil in the screen than on the parchment when I'm done.

use an unbleached coffee filter. press your puck, then cut your filter to just big enough to cover it. Then press. My filters come out non-tacky.

I have been doing some experiments with different containment packs, I am using kief both the 3 min and the 30 min tumbles. I tried some different size meshes as well as coffee filters, using my waffle iron press at 220* for 1 minute. The coffee filters didn't work, the thin ones blew out and the thick ones held on to most of the rosin. The best mesh turned out to be a 220lpi yellow screen, the yellow is lighter weight material than the white. The 3 min tumble is lighter color than the 30 min tumble. Both are strong and the lower temp helps retain the terps not near as much steam with terps off gassing like the hair iron...

Our old friend Team Microbe is taking credit for the bottle jack press (plant_n_prosper on IG). Started making rosin when everyone jumped on the wagon and now he's the pioneer.

Odd that ;)

I guess im a little slow on uptake here. I see alot of guys saying they use jack presses but never mention their heating methods. So if I am at harbor freight and I grab a jack press, what am I suppose to heat with? The dudes using the presses, what is your heating element?

you can buy heated blocks from someone like medisun or hashtrodamas or 710whip or rufiocraft, or get some made at your local metal fabrication/machinist shop and use flat coil enails to heat, or get creative and DIY like ester essence and ringodoggie, or go budget like me with the single burner and steel bricks like ganjapharmer and sunfire suggested a long way back.

I buy these off of eBay.......

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Newly-110V-...079721?hash=item3ab9c949a9:g:3H0AAOSwg3FUgT8W

and epoxy them to these...

The PTC heaters are the same things they use in the air straighteners except the are only $5 each. And, the aluminum plate can be any size or thickness depending on your press. I use the small Harbor Freight A-Frame press with those 1/4" plates.

:tiphat: very cool, thank you as well Ringo.

I have only used it a couple times, I am waiting for some more screen. I am almost out of rosin so i will be squishing a bunch soon...

After using my t-shirt press, I find too much pressure can be a bad thing.......

Especially using hash. Anybody else notice this? If I use too much pressure, the hash flows out of the rosin bag. These pneumatic presses must smash the crap out of hash?

50---

my two cents :2cents:

i agree when i've pressed hash in the past that i can use both lower heat and lower pressure and achieve very satisfying results than is possible with trim or flower.

there's definitely a point of diminishing returns when it comes to pressure per square inch, but there's no way a tshirt press even approaches the ballpark of those numbers with 12" or 15" plates and using leverage and body weight for pressure.

furthermore, the tshirt press doesn't allow the oil to escape the heated area. shit just cooks and cooks and degrades the oil. trying to keep the rosin contained is anti-intuitive.

smaller plates allow the filter packet to be matched to the size of the plates. then when you squish down, your oil runs off the heated area and collects cools away from any degrading influence.

to use 12" plates efficiently (with the optimum 2000psi) you'd need a press capable of 144 tons of force. i use a 4 ton press with 2"x2" packets for the same psi. the tshirt press just isn't properly designed for this.

we've all got a few old presses tucked away somewhere. worthy experiments that didn't cut the mustard. hopefully you didn't spend too much on the tshirt press, cause you really ought to replace it with something better suited to rosin making asap. i'm sure your material deserves better!

a hair iron would likely give you a better end product, especially if you're pressing mostly hash.

I see what your saying, but my set up is different.

I have two 600lb wood clamps that apply pressure as well, like I stated in a previous post. So 1200 lbs of pressure. Then I use a 5x5 metal plate to reduce the surface area of the squish. So i have much more pressure than just the t-shirt press. Otherwise, your right, the shirt press doesn't have nearly enough pressure.

The plate also raises the run off, and the run off doesn't continue to heat.

I've actually have been of the idea that people spending money on elaborate set ups are wasting their money. I will never make that statement until I try the competitors, but my t-shirt press with clamps is great. Spent 250$. Made about a half lb last week in about two hours. All from bubble.

So Heady, what happens when you press an ounce of bubble under that much pressure? Or do you have to keep your bags fairly empty?
