Smart grids know the type of appliance because they have recorded them they are learning as they go and all the information they gather make them smarter.
Also they have devices that will communicate with the smart meters like ovens and dryers and such eventually in the future every appaliance will be able to communicate with the smart meter.
People wanna know your habits so they can better market there product.
Flip Flops wont mean jack squat to a smart meter.
It will be able to identify the device by signatures.
The only thing you will be able to do is invest in solar, Charge your own batteries, and use generators maybe ones you can hook right up to your gas line and start paying higher gas bills instead of electric.
Im sure in the future to protect your privacy someone will create a device that scrambles the information before it gets to the device but the device will still be able to record your usage regardless of whether it knows what device is running it will be able to show a graph. It will be harder to disguise but not as hard if you use alternatives and mix and match.
Small warehouse grows will be the only alternative because warehouses/ factories use LOTS of 1k watt HID lights.
hey do you have a source link for all this info?/ I'm just finding it hard to see how an appliance can communicate over the very same wires the electricity is running through..(except in the case of BPL (broadband over power lines) in which case everything you buy would have to have one of these built in..I THINK NOT)
and we still have a right to privacy in america..even if there were a hint of truth to this, you still have the choice to not buy spying applicances..I highly doubt all the corps will be forced or just DECIDE to put spying equip in our appliances..LETS GET REAL HERE
also with the signature thing, thats hard to swallow as well, unless they pay people to buy everything electrical in the world and spend hours recording "signatures" to them..
so again, I ask for source..it sounds very unfeasible..to say the least
i mean how can they learn as they go?? I know they learn power usage patterns, but as far as learning WHAT the appliance is, I call BS..unless anyone has caught a power guy peeping in their window writing down what appliances you have, how could this possibly be correct?? a smart meter/robot that happens to know how to read and has ESP or what??
INQUIRING MINDS NEED TO KNOW BRO
PS: EDIT here to keep it civil sometimes i go overboard, but really please provide a LINK
