Smart grids know the type of appliance because they have recorded them they are learning as they go and all the information they gather make them smarter.
Also they have devices that will communicate with the smart meters like ovens and dryers and such eventually in the future every appaliance will be able to communicate with the smart meter.
People wanna know your habits so they can better market there product.
Flip Flops wont mean jack squat to a smart meter.
It will be able to identify the device by signatures.

The only thing you will be able to do is invest in solar, Charge your own batteries, and use generators maybe ones you can hook right up to your gas line and start paying higher gas bills instead of electric.

Im sure in the future to protect your privacy someone will create a device that scrambles the information before it gets to the device but the device will still be able to record your usage regardless of whether it knows what device is running it will be able to show a graph. It will be harder to disguise but not as hard if you use alternatives and mix and match.

Small warehouse grows will be the only alternative because warehouses/ factories use LOTS of 1k watt HID lights.

I inquired for a source as well to keep the tinfoil hats separate from the real safety measures. However, none has been provided yet.

We know 12/12 sticks out on smart meters (esp in higher wattages).

but do we know that the smart meters can ID individual appliances? and if it can, to what extent is that employed by actual power companies and LEO?

and if it ends up being true that they can detect HID ballast signatures, does that mean the only thing that will make you safe is a flip-flopped regulated power supply system?

I read through this whole thread, and something is not right in this picture. Perhaps it is crooked fla leo, that is certainly real.

No state can look through the electric records to farm for us, it would not be free for them to do, nor could they hide this. A law dog may correct me, but my understanding of law is that they can only go flir or to the poco, if they have informant info, or some other reason to do so.

This story has missing data, a rat who dropped a dime, or a story teller spinnin a ryhme, not sure.

I am sure we have not heard a full true story here, not sure why.

the thing about hps lights sticking out on the modern digital meters is totally true and it dosn't matter a fuck if it's on for 1 hour a day or 20 the hps gives off a certain frequency which sticks out like a sore thumb to those in the know. i have this from a very reliable source. thing is normally the power company don't really care, as long as you are not disrupting the network with your equipment and pay the bills on time they are happy.

I finish out my 6 month lease and move on to the next place. Works for me and let's me sleep a whole hell of a lot easier at night for the most part.

Now when I say move I mean my op not my home. I'm not about to move all my furniture and shit every few months.

WOW! I just got back from visiting some family in Tampa/Brandon area....Its fucked up, cause last week, i was outside about 9pm, and there was a helicopter flying around in a circle pattern, always turning in the same exact point...I knew exactly what they were doing...They were using FLIR and searching in a grid, that was the reason for turning around at the same point every time.....They were just flying about 100 feet and making big sweeps, then coming back....It was so fucked up...i was just thinking....holy shit, Im glad this isnt happening where I live, cause I just knew, they were about to catch some poor pot smoker/grower....I still cant believe how open the cops were about searching for grow ops....So fucked up...I really love Florida, but that place is simply not for me, or any of us on here.....pretty place, but a real shit hole because of the fucked up laws....Im glad I moved out of there....Good Luck man...you deserve it, and stay positive, your going about it the right way.....Stay up man. later.

Sorry to hear about the raid, those kinds of things are never fun to deal with and usually take a year or longer before they're over. Situations like this pose one of the many reasons to switch to LED. You can keep the current results you're achieving with HID using less than half the drawn wattage from the wall with LED, all while reducing your cooling costs and bulb costs as well. They also don't have that super hot heat signature like HID's. Our LED technology has been proven by several members on this site to be at least twice as efficient as HID, as is easy to see by clicking the link in my signature. I sympathize with the individual who got busted in this thread, as I'm no stranger to police who abuse the law and then leave it up for the courts to decide. I hope everything works out for the best in your situation.

LED's do not show up on a flir scan by chopper or with a flir gun scanning through a window, I know this to be fact as it has been tested by someone I know very well.
Now of course a room heated up from several of them in a sealed grow will still glow on flir scan due to the temp differences but it will not show the blazing bright white bulbs like HID does very clearly. A decent sized growlab tent inside a large room that is air conditioned and close to the same temp as the rest of the house could have many led lights going inside and be fully undetectable to infared scans.

my friend is an electrician and he told me that if your electric bill is way higher than the last owners, for a few consecutive months, then it raises a red flag. First they will investigate their own lines to make sure there isn't a malfunction. This will take some time...probably ranging from weeks to months. Next they may alert the authorities. My bill is pushing $300 for a 1 bedroom apt. Hahahaaa i"m getting the fuck outta there at the end of this month though. Hopefully no knock-and-talks or raids....godwilling. To avoid FLIR is not a reason to be running LED's? Say's who, the attention seeking class clown of icmag? Okay, well you are 100% wrong as it is one of the main reasons many are switching to LED over HID and the cops don't give a shit if you have 1k or 10k of HID running they will kick down your door with equal force once discovered. A grow is a grow is a grow in non-medical states. Hell a good grower with high yielding strains can pull 3 pounds every 2 months under a 1k hps with Co2, which surely is not just for personal use only at 18 pounds or so a year at a value of $90,000 - $115,000 worth. Well worth the cops efforts to bust as a 1 light grow using flir scans.

Anything involving a 400 watt bulb or bigger of HID can produce a very bright tell-tale signature on a handheld flir unit through a covered window or through a poorly insulated roof viewed by a helicopter. It is a bright white tube in the image and usually only means one thing once they are already looking at your place as a possible grow location. That one thing = getting busted which for some people in certain states could literally ruin their life.

The A/C reference was made about the central A/C running in your house and air conditioning the room which of course needs to have an inline fan and carbon filter going in your grow tent to eliminate any and all odors. Can filters work very very well with a 6" vortex fan on a speed controller dialed down halfway for noise control. As long as there is an opening of some kind from the room to the rest of the house or apartment such as a 1/2" or so standard sized space under the door so it is not totally airtight the ambient temperature in the room will only be a few degrees warmer than the rest of the house in most cases if you are running LED. This is not signifigant when viewed by FLIR if you are growing with LED. You can also simply use a stand alone portable air conditioner like the several kinds usually available at Home Depot or Lowes in the room if you need it to be totally sealed for security, just adjust it as needed temp wise until you compenstate for any ambient heat being produced. This also works good if you are using Co2 enrichment and do not want to vent into the rest out the house. Ok, nitey nite Smokey smoke time!
