Thanks for the posts folks!
packn - thanks! Yeah, the goo seem to be a very compact indica, will make a real nice bonsai mom...

Hi sow  - thanks for stopping by!

Hiya gmt!
I know what you mean - the problem being my soil is still very alkaline. Last time I watered I tested on one plant using pH 6.0 water and the runoff was 7!!!!! Soil tested last night at 7.3. Not really crazy about hauling them out to flush with pH 6 water to try and correct. WIll this do them damage if the runoff is still pH 6+? Only other thing I can think of at this stage is to give them some ammonium sulfate, but not crazy about giving 'em so much N this much into flower. Thanks much for your input!

Hi sleepy  - don't know much about goo. They are a Norcal clone strain, have heard folks rave about smoking it, so thought I'd try it. Been looking around for info, but haven't found very much yet. Looks to be mostly indica, with real tight nodes and good width to the leaves. Figured it would nicely balance TW and Morning Star next grow.

Did you have any dolomite lime in the soil to help buffer it?...my pH has always been a little less at runoff...I'd just keep doing what your doing...All I can think of is your soil mix is buffered high for some reason...additive's probably would have shown a change by now don't ya think. :chin:

Hi packn
No dolomite lime - the soil has earthworm castings, sphagnum peat moss, and pumice - I added 30-40% perlite. By all rights it should be getting more acidic as time goes on, as gmt has suggested early in the grow. The only thing I can possibly invoke to explain it is my water. It is pH 8-8.1 with 20 ppm TDS. When using pH down or nutes to lower the pH, could it be that what I'm using to lower pH is being metabolized or broken down while whatever makes the water alkaline out the tap is not breaking down. That would explain the gradually rising pH despite using pH corrected water. Other than that I don't have any idea what could be alkalinizing the soil.

Re: the additives - on the 2 most vigorous plants they started to green up for a week and now they're holding steady. This makes me think that as the soil is drying out the pH is rising back to the soil's pH 7+ - leaving less and less of the P-K in available form. Buds are still developing so I'm not terribly worried about it, but then again I've never done this before. :chin:

At least no more leaf edge brown/dry outs... :dueling:

Thanks for the input! :friends:

The ph down your using what type is it mate?

If your using tap water, try letting it sit out overnight or two before adjusting ph, the chlorines and crap will evaporate out of it im told.

I have very alkaline water in my area aswell. I need to add 20 drops of hydro grade ph down just to get it down to right level after letting it sit overnight. It may or may not help? but it helped my ph probs.

Hi Leeroy
I've been using EarthJuice pH down. That's a good idea to let the water sit overnight, most of the time I bubble it for 24 hours. Doesn't take much to drop the pH. Thanks very much for the suggestion! :friends:

Another chapter in the story. Tonight I checked the girls, and the leaves looked worse than yesterday. PPM of the soil is 350, pH 7.4. I'm assuming they're suffering from a high pH nute lockout. Filled a 20 gallon container with pH 5.5 water, put the most yellowed plant in it - one of the 5 gal girls - and after draining and soaking 3 times the pH from the last cup of runoff was still 6.7. :yoinks: Dumped and refilled with fresh water pHed to 4.5, drained and soaked twice and the runoff was 5.7. Watered with 1 quart of pH 6 water and the runoff stayed pH 6. Repeated with each of the 6 plants. All of them ended up with runoff between 5.8 and 6. Hopefully this will hold them for a while, will keep an eye on the leaves to see if they improve.

A bit pooped after hauling the plants around and filling and dumping 20 gal multiple times - will take some pictures tomorrow.

Day 50 Flower

Day 50 Flower

Ok - got some shots tonight. Many of the leaves look like hell - to me looks like a triple nute def from lockout NPK.... but the buds are still filling out.

This is wispy - the wispiest of the bunch in a 3 gal pot, for comparison, first a bud shot from day 33.

Now 3 shots of her today

Now the other 5

A couple of the plants have a rare cloudy and very rare amber trich, I can see the light is at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks for looking!

It can be a bitch sometimes, but it's worth it, bro. I think you're on the right track to getting 'em healthier. Hope you get some nice buds. They're lookin' pretty good now.

Hi tc! Thanks very much, and another vote for Fiskars! Excellent!

Hi Dr D! Thanks for stoppin by, nice to see ya! They won't get obese - too much stress early on, but they should be nice chunky buds...

Hi fj! Another vote for Fiskars - thanks! I actually ordered 2 of 'em, Amazon had them on sale. Stoner me, I'm always misplacing trimmers, so figured I'd have my backup just in case.

Thanks folks - have a great day!

Id use both pairs, I actually have 3 identical pairs of scissors for trimming. They gunk up so quick, having extras so you can just keep trimming instead of having to stop and clean them is nice. Those fiskars look nice, Im gonna have to invest in some of those.

Bet your getting excited, almost time for your first harvest :woohoo: Growing them is nice, but chopping them down is my favorite part, other than smoking of course :joint:

Hiya gog!
Hey - thanks for the tip! Never having trimmed my own before, it just didn't cross my mind. :wallbash: Now I'm doubly glad I bought 2!

Yup - I'm starting to get itchy, but they have a way to go yet. I fully expect to have to leave the 3 wispies on the growbots while I'm gone - would be nice if I'm wrong. The others may be ready in time, a few pistils here and there starting to brown up now. The last flush did the trick, the yellow leaves are greening up again.

Yeah - chop chop - exciting stuff - sneak some early samples and let 'em cure - then - puff puff puff - aahhhhhhh

Can't wait to hear how she blows after some curing. The TW that comes through my parts is some very nice stuff, tasty and stoney. You can get high from just the budleaves as they almost have more trichs than the calyx. Good stuff.
