Looking good, schrews. You're gonna crush it this year, man. One question: are you gonna put some straw on those cover crop seedlings? I did it with my large bed and the sprouts came up right through the layer of straw I put down.

HB.

These mounds look interesting. This your first go at them? Sorry I'm late to the show.!
i made one mound just to try it. 23 to go. gonna make the rest this week/weekend/next week. i think they will get better as i make more. I'm going to take the sides off the pots for sure , dont like how it turned out when i just piled dirt on top. you can see in the pics it's lopsided but whatever, thats my Friday the 13th plant.

AOG crosses would be a fun experiment
i hope the experiment works Im just going to transplant everything i'm crossing into bigger pots (maybe 15gal) and handwater them indoors. dont think it will be too hard but who knows

You can cut the males back, heavily,if you're looking to make them last till your full terms are ready. Just transplant like you thought into 10s or 15s, then when you start to see your boys get too big, or start to open up the sacks, cut them back to just a few nodes. By summer they will be full size with plenty of pollen on the branches

That mound is huge! And that AOG is looking vibrant. The queen of the hill up there. Righteous brah

Let us know what recommendations you get from leadslead. I'm interested in what he has to say too.

Looking good schrews. When you start plants from seed do you sex them before transplanting into those mounds? or do you just plant a few and cull males.

today I spent 2 hours with 2 other guys trying to figure out how to open a 5gal bucket of AEA , we gave up when the sun went down. If we can get it done tomorrow then i can foliar

Does it have a spot to drill/screw in a tap on the lid?

Most t hydro stores sell those valves that tap into the 5gallon drums of food/fish ect.

Good luck bro lol

i dont think so. idk what that would look like, but it seems like if i drill into the bucket lid i'm gonna get a face full of landfill-juice (at least thats what it smells like)

im sure its an easy solution but my stupid ass and 2 other guys were stumped.

i got another 5gal bucket from them and it came with a different lid, with a thing to unscrew. but this one has nothing.

it's not sealed because we pried up the sides of the lid and a little gas and liquid came out, but the lid wont come off. the whole bucket is puffed out like a football from the pressure.

I feel like i waste a lot of time figuring out how do deal with non-growing related bullshit like this.

SOIL TEST FIASCO

SOIL TEST FIASCO

I"m feeling really frustrated and discouraged with the result of my attempt to get my soil tested and amended properly

I sent my soil to Fruit Growers Lab in february, tryin to be proactive and make sure i didnt get delayed. Got my results back and posted them here, where i was told that i got the wrong tests, and i had to send my soil to Logan Labs instead

Logan Labs took almost 3 weeks to get my soil and give me the test results. At that point it was last week, and I could have been putting my plants in the ground already

So i sent the Logan Labs test results to Leadsled for recommendations. he took a few days to email me back, saying that my test results show i have high calcium that I need to get ANOTHER test from logan labs (AA 8.2 test for excess calcium) before he can give me recommendations

Leadsled said i dont need to send in another sample, i guess Logan labs can re-use the sample i already sent them for this extra test? But even if i dont have to mail in another sample, when i do finally get my amendment recommendations it will still take a while to get all the amendments and mix them in. at this point i should already have my plants in the ground. I've had my new soil for 2 weeks and havent made my mounds yet cuz i was waiting to amend my old soil. My starts are looking like they need to go in the ground.

I'm not really sure what to do at this point. Wait for another test and recommendations and then spend a few days mixing dirt, ( who knows how much longer that whole process will actually take, at this point its been almost a month already.) or just say fuck it and make my mounds now without amending the old soil , that way i can get my plants in the ground before they start getting rootbound.

I thought i would have all this stuff handled several weeks ago. trying to do everything properly is costing me a lot of crucial growing time. All these setbacks are putting me in a weird place mentally. I just wanted to do everything right but circumstances beyond my control are fucking me, as usual.

I just want somebody to tell me what the fuck to mix into my old pots. didn't think it would be this damn hard. So many stupid obstacles this season.

hope this makes sens. sorry for ranting. any advice would be appreciated
:thank you:

EDIT: just tried to call logan labs and their voicemail says they're closed now, and it's only 11:30 am pacific time. I swear i'm goin to fuckin shoot myself , this whole soil test fiasco is ridiculous

I appreciate the desire to make your soil awesome. But it seems like you have had some awesome results not worrying about all that stuff. If it aint broke dont fix it. I recall you said one pot was not performing well, so that pot in particular might be one to adress.

As far as the bucket that you can't open.
Perhaps buy a new bucket and lid with a screw top, or some sort of dispenser. Drill a hole in the lid of the one you can't open and pour the contents into a new bucket...

That would piss me off .. Hurry up and wait shit when time is of the essence .. Go with your normal program I say .. Keep it green ✌️

I think your plants are probably good until you figure things out so I wouldnt trip on that...maybe set a deadline if things dont come together time for plan b

Edit..more info...some of mine that were bigger just broke up when trying to transplant from not growing enough and I had to just kill them off

Maybe also make a thread in organic soil see what people say

Mound that shit up n plant it dog.

appreciate it guys . only thing that concerns me is that the starts in the old soil are visibly less perky and slightly yellow than the ones in my new balanced mix. there are obviously some deficiencies in the old soil but i cant wait much longer to get recommendations and amend the soil, my plants need to go in the ground now.

whats worse, using deficient soil or planting late. both will fuck up my final yield somehow. i cant believe it's like this, ive been tryin hard to get off to a smooth start

and the conflicting opinion...

I want to think that you're right and i should just keep waiting on these tests and recs. but days are turning into weeks are turning into months. it's wearing on my nerves. I sent in my first soil test 3 MONTHS AGO and i still havent figured out what to amend with. i wish i was smart enough and knew enough to get the right tests and figure out my own amendments but at this point i just feel like a fuckin idiot with shitty luck

I really wanted to have all my starts in the ground by now. i'm fuckin so bummed everything has taken so long etc..

Why not go ahead and make a few mounds and plant em now and leave the rest for after the results. That way you aren't sitting around being bummed. Even if you only do 2 or 3 mounds it will keep you busy.
