Screws - Trust the pro's next time. Farmtek has a great hoop house type greenhouse that is rated for 4ft snow load.

Hope you still kill it this year bro.

thanks for the help guys. i'm really bad at learning things unless i can see it in person and do it myself, but an ICmag homey did offer to help me build my next hoophouse. Or i might buy one of those farmtek ones. Either way i think i will wait until next year.

plants are looking very unhappy. it's been cold, got lots of hail and some snow so i'm sure they didnt like that. The weathers warming up now though. I hope at least a few will get better in the next couple weeks but if not i have other options. I should have used better soil, wasn't on top of it last winter.

I ordered some stuff today,
-Horiba sap pH meter
-plant sap press
-50lbs bag of buildasoil cover crop seed blend
-AEA/Tainio stuff

whats a good usb microscope?

Im sending in soil samples to Logan Labs today, also ordering my new soil just need to get everything finalized

Dang sorry to hear about the hoop house falling apart.

I'm in an area where I get very strong winds; it's not possible to grow plants without wind shelter, they'll just get wind-burnt/stripped to death. First season I tried with 1" SCH40 PVC, but broke/failed on me multiple times during a light dep. Pretty sure 3/4" would have failed even worse.

Since then, I've come to trust carport-style greenhouses (ShelterLogic makes a decent one for vegging) with a steel frame that's bolted together. 10'x20' available on Amazon for under $400 shipped. It's not as translucent as I would like (appears to be white tarp vs. clear-ish tarp that I expected), but it works. I suspect you might want better light penetration for flowering, but I'm not sure.

If I recall correctly, the DIY PVC version cost almost as much as the ShelterLogic up front, but came with a bunch of headaches/heartaches and a higher cost to operate.

Make sure that the sides are rolled up & open so you can get some airflow. Covering them up completely would most definitely cook them.

Round buildings do work much better for dep than gable style carport roofs. They are hard to pull and the ropes rub on the ridgepole and make holes in your clear cover. Eventually the ridgepoles weaken and snap too. I've dropped a couple of lights in to the canopy that way.

I've had farmtek, greenhousemegastore, carports and PVC. I've seen all of them get wrecked in storms. I'm building a new PVC right now. 1 1/2" PVC. Baseboards, hipboards and ground anchors help make it real. I could build 5 of them for the cost of farmtek. I did love my farmtek though, lost it in a breakup.
Good luck Shcrews!

Really? My hoop house from Farmtek is 1" 9/16 tube steal, 12wx8t,50L and has been through two winters, with the last being fairly wet and a good amount of snow. Not a scratch on it. It's just like a normal greenhouse, and I know those can last decades.

To answer the question of how much it costs: It was about 4k with black out tarp, concrete work and everything. I am paying it off over 7 years 0% interest. No brainier for me personally, as I own my properties.

Not bad-mouthing the greenhouse, it's the installation that makes it or breaks it. I've put up the farmtek for lots of folks.
I spent 4k on my little farmtek with freight and tax years ago. I'm being conservative with money on my new property that I own. I also my move/change it.
I'm in like $500 with the clear cover so far.
Building greenhouses for folks has been my part-time business for many years. I've put together a dep out of old soccer goals and I've worked on a 4k square foot forever flowering with radiant heated beds.

So, an update on those starts maybe? Did they survive? Green back up? How many got smashed?
well they're all still alive. heh. not healthy though

I topdressed half the plants with Alfalfa meal and EWC, havent noticed any improvement yet

it's been really cold out for a few days now

have 90 little baby sprouts poking up from their 4x4 pots right now, they will be my backups. Also some very cool ICmag heads have said they may have extra starts ..

There's already enough talk about greenhouses on Shcrews thread (last year too) my apologies for throwing my two cents in and jamming up the airwaves. All the experts are already on here. Y'all don't know me yet. Thanks everyone I'm watching.
