Do you top your plants at any time?

I have seen Shcrews post several times in at least two different threads that he does not top his plants. He feels he gets the most yield by not topping and it is hard to argue with success.

Read through your last year's season this winter. I'm signed in for this year. Thanks Shcrews! Great job on the greenhouse. ;)

Yes very true.

@Screws Have you ever tried mainlining? I was thinking of trying it out on a lady or two this year to compare.

you must have used rebar stakes to anchor your PVC? is that a 20 ft length? looks good for a nice season extender ~hope the results work out best for you

i couldn;t do that here. we get some pretty beastly winds. i'm planning to do t-posts & just change out "membranes" so it will either be cool temp protection when season extending or light dep. but, i'll pull tarp whether the "tarp" is clear or opaque

Shcrews you ever measure height on some of taller plants ? Just curious ? in pics they look approx 14 ft ,I'm surprised they are not taller though ! compared to some i grow they get to 12 ft but i top them 3-4 times & only get to 2-3 units , I just figured that if not topped they might hit 17-20 , but i'm not really sure !!! on mine it just seems like if they got to 12 ft after being topped 3-4 times than if not topped than maybe at least another 5 ft totaling 17 or maybe more ! But that's why i top them as 12 ft is max i want to get to ? , or maybe somehow not topping doesn't really make them get much taller ? I'm not sure ,just wondering !!!

i feel like if i don't top my shit then those top colas get too big and are way more prone to mold. i also like shaping them into a bush as much as possible

I'm sure the tops are much more prone to mold like you say but down where schrews is at, mold is MUCH less of an issue than guys up north in mendo, Humboldt, trinity

every time you top, it will end up turning what would be one cola into 2 colas half the size. which is beneficial to me because I end up throwing lots of those huge football colas away to rot. I don't care where you are, a good rain on some monster colas will give you rot

my big full season plants usually finish around 10-12 ft tall. they are never topped or bent. i'm not really sure what you are asking though

maybe true for you in norcal, but at my place last year we had a couple rains before harvest and i didnt lose any tops
to mold except one which was the biggest cola i've ever seen, size of a basketball. should have chopped that one sooner though, i got greedy tryin to see for how long it would keep growing.

yeppp i definitely dont miss growing weed in santa cruz , 200 ft from the ocean. i lost 50% of my full season harvest to mold one year, although 25% or so is normal around that area

byf and others have said if your plants are healthy they are more resistant to botrytis. But that coastal fog is a motherfucker no matter what its gonna cause some problems

yah , rebar stakes anchoring 20ft pvc. super simple, each greenhouse only took an hour. im glad theres not much wind here, they would not last long! but i guess they wont be up for long anyway, no use for them after spring veg time.

becuz of the plant limits i cant really use them for light dep, although if i have time i might just try to get away with it anyway. if cops come and i'm over my limit theyre just gonna tell me to chop the extras anyway.
