MotherLode Gardens 2016

No shit? I used to fucking cut pvc to make clips, I had no idea thats even a thing, thats badass, I was referring to gator clamps, not clips, my bad, those definitely sound more durable

i also screw them in upside down to the wood skirt or rim joist so if you roll up your sides use 1" pvc snap clamped to your plastic and roll it up during the day holding it open with spring clamps- then roll down at night and the 1" pvc with plastic secured to it just snaps into the snap clamp for windy nights.[/QUOTE]

good idea...I screw my clips ..high wind area

If you run wood strips about 3' off the ground down the length of your GH it will really tighten up the structure. Just drill through your pvc and attach with carriage bolts. Them you can cut lengths of wood that go between your ribs and screw together and sandwich your plastic together which will really help keep the plastic together in strong winds. Then you can burp and air out your GH by rolling up the sides and gator clipping the plastic to the wood when it's hot. You can use 2x4's or even cheap furring strips will do the job. Makes a big difference and will make a cheap hoop house ghetto gourmet. I just built a 12x50 I can send you pics of what I mean

Simple clamps ftw, those pvc pieces turned into faux clamps fall off Hella easy in wind ect.

Just get some heavy duty rubber ended clamps like 5 bucks each, 3 of them for each end of the hoop. Don't worry about rolling up sides ect, your not going full term in there, just a few weeks. Keep it simple

i was surprised that many AOG's germinated. last year i sprouted two packs and only 10 germinated , with only 3 females. So this year i sprouted 2 packs again and 20 germinated. hoping for more females too. I'm goin to make some f2's and also save a cut of the best original male for future breeding, as well as a couple female cuts

Funny how life works like that! If you were to need someone to keep a male or pollen or anything, you know where to find me. Amazing weather out. These warm nights really help the ladies

Yo schrews! Glad to see you growing more! Happy looking babies! When do you move them outside? Looks like the tent you have em in maintains things pretty nicely for them.

Always cool to see what you're up to. Looks like your setting up for an epic season! I'll be around. Best of luck

I've got two sof far out of 15. 100% of everything else has at least sprouted from the seed, a few weak seeds but that's no big deal to me.

What kind of plastic are you using to cover your greenhouse?

all replies are helpful
Im using cheap Home Depot plastic but ideally you use greenhouse plastic

Maybe you got a winner. If not I'll try to save you some cuts

You inspired me to get some bodhi gear for full season :) high hopes for lando's stash !
that one will probably finish pretty early.

Hey shcrews, lookin' good! I just finished my 25x16 hoop house, too, but since I'm going with all seeds now and don't need lighting I'm going to have to rebuild it in the garden area where I have more sun.

I have a Q: how come you grow your seedlings indoors for two weeks? I started mine in a chicken coop and they were eaten by mice so I was thinking I would just start them outside to make it easier to protect them. I can just raise the trays off the ground with a bench rather than make a cage for each tray. Maybe with some shade cloth...

i cant think of any benefits of sprouting seeds outside in march. greenhouse maybe but only with a heater. definitely not a chicken coop heh.

maybe you are at the point where you should just focus on pulling off a decent grow. Focus on *what* you should do. Don't worry about *why* and *how come* just yet because some of those things will start to become apparent to you on your own based on your experience. At that point you can start to properly improvise and experiment, but first its good to get a feel for some basic proven methods

i just got 180 5gal smart pots for transplanting the seedlings... those things are expensive! oh well, at least they are good for a couple years.

starting transplants today. i'm going to use last year's cootz mix i think, although the soil test from my old vermifire looks a little more balanced to my untrained eye. maybe i should transplant into that instead?

will be fun getting old soil up the hill and into 5gal pots in the greenhouse. I'm glad i bought a truck cuz now i can just fill the bed with dirt and drive up , instead of using a goddamn wheelbarrow like i was doing for a couple years. talk about a workout!
