DNA manipulation is one facet of science... the facet you were upholding as the answer to the world's problems.

And yes, I am saying that the misinformed ignorants, especially in europe that protest against GM are mostly doing the bidding of "protectionist local farmers and farmer unions" are using scare tactics and bullshit to whip up the uninformed (such as yourself) to march against science without a basic understanding of facts. Much the same as the Japanese farmers did to prevent CA produce & beef to protect their local and inefficient operations.

And BTW, I am happy to report that I passed by the Monsanto seed booth today at the WORLD AG EXPO in Tulare CA.

Their booth was happily co-existing among the dozens of newly formed Organic fertilizer companies who also had booths in Pavilion C (if I remember correctly).

There were no hippies protesting Monsanto at all.

In fact I think Azomite was in the same asile as Monsanto.

The mis-informed hippies worst nightmare. GM seed grown with organic fertilizers and techniques.

Hey grapeman I was gonna go to the expo with the agronomy club at school, had too much work though. I'm wondering though, is Monsanto phasing out the round up ready or "genuity" corn and soy? pushing the acceleron ? Lets all try to get along here fellas, I know it's hard when talking about agriculture, the whole subject often comes off like a "your mamma joke," when really it shouldn't I see where people come from who are anti Monsanto, and suggest that if you'd like to boycott them, you should diet accordingly and not eat meat, dairy, or high fructose syrup. Just try not to be the kind of person who eats this way, then says Monsanto is a terrible company. I also agree that gene ownership is a scary aspect of agriculture, and I think grapeman may not feel this because his crop is planted for life, most likely asexually. I work in a breeding lab with the composite family (annuals) and while seeing the immorality of gene ownership, I also realize that while selling a product like seed, where the "factory is contained in the product," a breeder would reasonably fix that trait to ensure profits. I can timidly say that I have faith in Monsanto, not for their ethics, but the sience behind innovation. All of their line breeders and chemists have their PhD's and are being paid to help humanity, not hurt it.

Like i said before we don't want to act as guinea pigs for your so called GM-science.What is said for years in Europe about GM-crops is really happening right now.I shall call it again;

- resistant weeds
- huge insect plaques in gm-fields
- cross polination which decrease diversity in crop varieties
- overuse of the Glyphosate which destroys beneficial organisms in
the soil
- decrease of nutrition thanks to the use of Glyphosate
- decrease of yields

1)The weed wasn't GM related. It was from overuse of herbicides just like we overuse antibiotics. Guess what, using GM crops would make them spray less herbicides and slow this process down.

2)The infestation of bugs is because farmers have to spray less pesticides because they're using GM crops. So do you want to bitch about the bugs in their shit or do you want to bitch about them spraying chemicals. You can't do both.

3)Again this has jack all to do with GM crops. The same thing would happen if we used plants which were bred traditionally.

I don't understand how anyone can support gm crops at least to this date. more research must be involved to reach a clear understanding or conclusion... look into monsanto and their history as a company, it speaks for itself. they are pure evil. and the revolving door between monstanto and congress is ridiculous....people at the top of monsanto working for our gov't....just creating more laws/acts enabling corporations to control everything we ingest. reminds me of all the FDA prematurely approved drugs that years later cause much damage to the consumers/guinea pigs. c'mon sheep keep within the herd!!!

And to think as a kid we grafted about 100 acres of thompson seedless to perlettes and it was my job (using a mayo jar with holes punched in the lid) to sprinkle DDT around the graft to prevent bud beetles from eating the new shoots. Shortly thereafter, Ms. Carson's book got immense attention and DDT was banned.

About 100 million africans died from the lack of a good cheap pesticide, but whatever.
