Midwest Outdoors IV 2006 Season

do you guys typically plant 2unknown sex plants together because the idea that one will be most likely male and one female?

No^ I start all of my beans inside and plant them all separate when they are about 30 days old depending on the weather, I had 8 of 9 papaya beans turn female this winter. That doesn't normally happen but it was a pleasant surprise to get 8 females from 9 unsexed seeds. I will be planting clones outside so I will know there are no males.

yea you start them inside a few week to 2 months before sex them, pick a mother and then take clones keep the others if you want and put them outside but keep the mother forever and keep taking clones for inside and out if you do both, or if you dont grow insde you can take clones let the mother regenerate and put outside after your happy :D

45 seeds cracked open and are now placed in paper towels to sprout bigger tap roots, the rest should crack open in the next day or so and then be placed in paper towels also then into cups :D

Good to hear. What was your % germination? Why go the extra step of putting in paper towels after they crack? Seemed to work fine for me just putting them in soil after cracking. Its possible to break off the taproot. Just one less place to mess up, but there's no right or wrong way as long as you get them growin.

Thanks for the advice PS but it was already in the mail. But the Big Bud can be my OPOP contender for the year. How's the spring harvest coming along?

Hey everyone.. its official, Im gonna be joining you fellas this season. MO went out to seedboutique last wednesday. Im in northern Ohio, so the growing season is kinda sketchy here, but I think I chose some good strains this year. So heres whats goin in the ground here in 06..

Homegrown Fantaseeds- Afghani
Magus Genetics- Biddy Early
Female Seeds- Easy Sativa
Dutch Passion (fem)- Passion #1
Joint Doctors- Master Low
Nirvana- New Purple Power
and the freebie I chose is Nirvana- Holland's Hoop

I hope I made the right decision on the Master Low, because I saw that they also have the Power Stout, and had to decide between the two. Whats the main difference, does the PS get a better yield than the MasterLow, better taste, potency, anything?

thanks

well when i put in nice 80 to 85 degree water that are in plastic cups where they grow up for the first few weeks of there lives i get them to crack within 10hours to 2 days which is very good, but i find that if i place them directly in the soil after they crack open it takes longer to grow out, so i make sure they all go into paper towels so i can get the tap roots to search for the water and come out more so now i got a nice little plant :)

55 of 55 seeds cracked and are in paper towels few are ready for dirt, got 88 more seeds ready to be put in water and germ :)

dam its ok Guyute :), you might like the high of big bud and i dont as were 2 different people with 2 different tolerances and ect :)

my spring harvest is a no go and they have been trimmed up to slow down growth as i was running out of room, as the weather has been very jumpy over here 1 day it could hit 70 the next i get hit with 30 degree freezing rain or snow!

nice to have you here Smack as i see your thread keeps going to the bottom of the page or 3 pages back, feel free to post pictures or jus drop a few lines to chat with us

Lot's of nice strains listed in this thread. It will be great to see how all of them produce here in the midwest.

As I posted in the PM pipeline, I haven't spent anytime worrying about the ph outdoors. Most of our argicultural soil in the midwest provides near ideal conditions.

Maybe I've just been lucky but, my outdoor grows have been happy in the midwestern dirt, with very few ammendments.

good luck everyone

Amount of direct sunlight and water seem to be the most common limiting factors for growth rate and yield.

I have a plot that got the lime and one without now, i think im going to just leave it and see how it does. If they start showing signs of deficiency (low pH would lower availability of some nutes) then i can mix in some powdered lime with the top inch of soil and water it in to raise the pH.

Last week i planted 2 mature bagseed beans in a pot with some spider plants. They both were up by last night the first time i noticed them. Today i went riding my bike, so I dug one up with a spoon, put it in a little film canister and took it with me. Found a sunnly clearing by a fallen tree and in the dirt it went. Theres only about a week and a half until the official first frost so it could make it.

Here's a shot of the other one, keeping it as an ornamental for a couple of weeks then it goes in the ground.

I got a feeling this one is going to make it. Bagseed sometimes are great to grow you never know if its going to be a gem or not.

i dont kno what it is but i always seem to start 10 to 20 bagseeds inside with my good seeds jus for shits and giggles to see what the plants will do, 90% of the bagseeds i have are very nice lush plants that grow rather quickly and have big fat buds!

we have about 45 of 55 seeds above the soil looking at the light which is great and now to wait a few weeks finish digging my holes and then bam the show will begin for all of you wanting to see whats going to happen over here in my part of the states and this shall be the year!

forgot to mention once these 55 seeds go outside ill run another group of plants 50 to 80 i believe and keep doing it every few weeks until mid june were ill stop and be happy, some will be greatly taken care of while others get lil to no help at all

its been so warm lately!
i think im going to plant some of my sprouts this weekend...its a risk, i know, but im getting incredibly eager and i want to throw a party at my place and that means getting the plants out
ill let you know what happens

yea its becoming the time to start getting geared up, pumped up and get used to walking with 80+ pounds of water on your back to water your plots

i still have some more things to get before i can plant really as i need to get to the garden store to buy some plant tags so i can tell which plants are which outside :), some yarn/rope to tie the plants down and thats about it

ill try to snap a few photos of the hole some of my plants will go in to give you a idea of how big it is from the one we had last year :)

we extended it out more to fit more then a few plants in it and will be filling it up very soon with dirt, the hole last year had about 90 to 130 gallons of dirt in it and now its prolly gonna need another 100 to 150 gallons more :D

and heres the garden inside :) first is most of the seedlings and 1 small plant, then the other 2 are 9 in each of the crates the lights sit on :)
